  1. That’s fair. And I’m on #TeamJoey We all agree Ortiz’s defense is immensely valuable. We all hope his offense improves toward what we (modesty) expect in 2026. As it were, Ortiz had third lowest OPS+ of all hitters with 400+ PA in 2025. Milwaukee should aspire to not giving someone 500 PA with such a low OPS+. Ke’Bryan Hayes’ bat was a whisper worse. Nick Allen got 416 PA for a bad Braves team. Both players also very good with the glove, as one would hope. Astros traded for Nick Allen, yesterday.
  2. A different look: There were 11 players with 500 PA that had less bWAR than Joey Ortiz in 2025.
  3. This so clearly makes the most sense to me. A sub-3 ERA starting pitcher with 200 K for three straight seasons for only $8 million is a valuable piece for tjr 2026 Brewers. At the same time, ownership would never say ‘we are trading Freddy.’ We should want more than just one veteran starting pitcher in 2026. We clearly didn’t trust our regular season # 5 starter (Quintana) in the playoffs.
  4. We probably need another reliable veteran to pair with Peralta. It would be peak Brewers to turn Soroka into a something special.
  5. I appreciate Naylor is younger and less injured. Naylor hits for higher average and less power. Lower career OPS than Hoskins.
  6. By extension, are you suggesting Attanasio for ‘owner of the year?’ 🙂
  7. I agree. If a team makes Milwaukee a reasonable offer for our ‘proven closer’ we should certainly consider it. Megill turns 32 years old next month. Counterpoint: Megill has a lot of fire and seems like a clubhouse leader. Counter-counter point: Megill threw only 47 IP this year and last. 1.5 WAR this season is nice but should not be overvalued.
  8. A healthy Buxton is great. I feel like Buxton is Minnesota’s franchise player, though. It would be like Milwaukee dumping Ryan Braun. Twins would presumably want much more than Collins and Wilken. Also, Buxton miraculously played in 126 games this season. I would take the under for games played in 2026.
  9. Dumping salaries of Hoskins, Quintana and Woodruff makes quite a bit of difference compared to 2025 payroll. I understand Woodruff still gets his buyout, regardless.
  10. And yet, we trailed only the Dodgers and Yankees in runs scored and our offense was still often maddening 🙂
  11. I do not follow college football. At the same time, Washington being favored to win by only 10.5 points seems ridiculously low.
  12. https://babylonbee.com/news/man-cant-wait-to-be-disappointed-by-his-favorite-baseball-teams-offseason-moves "It's going to be exciting to see what they don't do this winter," Kimmel said.‘ "It's like a really sad version of Christmas," he said. "You get to fire up the ‘hot stove' talk and look around at all the other teams making trades and signing new players to improve their rosters, and then you look at your team and feel that familiar emptiness. There's just nothing like baseball, even in the offseason. It'll be great." 🙂
  13. I can’t imagine a better player that could conceivably sign with us on a one-year $22 million deal. at the same time, I haven’t thought very hard about this.
  14. Milwaukee has frequently been comfortable spending money on one or two year commitments. Peralta, Woodruff and our cast of young starters could be formidable.
  15. You are right. At the same time, if the players collectively bargain for this system, then it is fair in that regard. This is what players signed up for.
  16. Suter turns 37 next summer: 4.52 ERA last season. 4.57 FIP Ten seasons under his belt, so far. I assume he gets a major league contract somewhere? I think his days are numbered, though.
  17. That could be nice. At the same time, I think Contreras will be eager to get his $100M guarantee after 2027 season. Whoever signs Contreras in 2028 will have a 30-year-old catcher with a lot of miles on him. If anyone can fight through injuries and aging, it is probably Contreras, though.
  18. Like 99% of players, it is hard to imagine Milwaukee being happy with paying over $100M for a player that is in their 30’s and assuredly past their prime. Brewers have two more seasons of Contreras. Yelich has three seasons left on his deal. Maybe we give Contreras the Yelich money in 2029 and beyond? I assume we hope Quero is the future but maybe Contreras becomes our Salvador Perez 🤷‍♂️
  19. Contreras receives a $100,000 buyout check (he otherwise would not have received) for the ‘insult’ of the Brewers exercising their choice to trust the collectively bargained arbitration process, which I assume they will still avoid. I trust the Brewers do a fair job communicating their business thinking before, during and after the decision.
  20. Depends if he adds another 25 lbs of muscle. Frelick might look like Eric Thames by spring. 💪
  21. I doubt playing with a broken finger helps Contreras during arbitration. It is hard to quantify that value. Regarding reward, Contreras will get at least $10 million from Milwaukee this season. He will be fairly compensated in 2026.
  22. Obviously right call on Hoskins. I think we captured the right amount of value with one year of Quintana. I’m sure we could always trade for him in 2026, if necessary 🙂
  23. The post says Durbin played primarily second and short.
  24. Baldwin has a touch more WAR for bad team. Horton maybe didn’t pitch enough over the season?
