    Durbin is performing well and Cortes miraculously has lower ERA than Devin today. Advantage: Milwaukee

    Injuries happen. DL Hall was effective in his 26.2 IP after the break last year, 3.38 ERA and 10.5 K/9 IP. Durbin has nearly .900 OPS in Nashville, so far. Ortiz was nearly a 3 WAR player last year. He has had a bad 43 plate appearances this year. If he gets 600 PA, this bad stretch would be 7% of his season. If healthy, I bet Cortes has more WAR than Williams this year. It’s not like Williams was always healthy as a Brewer either. Burnes and Williams were never going to help Milwaukee beyond their initial team control. We now have multiple players who will make meaningful contributions for several years.

    Milwaukee has not faced Senzatela since 2022. Hoskins has 1.053 career OPS against Senzatela in 11 AB. Yelich is only other Brewer with a plate appearance against Senzatela (12 PA, limited success). Tyler Alexander has struggled against Colorado. 11.57 career ERA in 9.1 IP over three appearances. Alexander started against the Rockies on 4/6/24 allowing 8 H, 2 BB, 4 ER with 4 K over 4.1 IP.

    Just observing the Cubs did the right thing by not keeping Bryant, Baez and Rizzo. It is not universally desirable to keep every star player on your team forever.

    A good comp. Garrett Cooper could generously be described as replacement level with little value. Reynolds seems like an effective reliever, but is hurt now. Marlins win the trade. 🙂

    Not that anyone is watching Smith’s every move but he has the start today in Cleveland. Smith allows four walks to what has been a very bad Twins offense in his first start. Plus, a .133 BABIP allowed. And yes, displayed excellent stuff. 4.76 K/9 6.35 BB/9 4.13 FIP

    Let’s enjoy this season of baseball. 🙂 We can focus on what matters most, taking the Cubs and Cardinals down a peg. If Priester gives us 140 IP of above replacement level performance, that’s wonderful and possibly worth it. Plus, Quinn is available through 2030. And yes, we wish Shane Smith well. Smith walked four in his first start against what has been a terrible Twins offense. A very small sample plus a .133 BABIP allowed means Smith might not be a guaranteed long term starter. We will see 🤷‍♂️

    Fair but there have been ‘talented’ 24-year old pitchers forever. I can’t remember the last time a younger major league ready pitcher was traded. I’m sure it has happened though.

    LHP Kyle Freeland takes the mound for Colorado. Freeland has been expectedly effective against Milwaukee. 48 IP, 34 H, 13 BB, 11 ER and 44 K. 2.06 career ERA against Brewers Rockies have won each of Freeland’s last five starts against Milwaukee. Each time a quality start from Freeland and three times Freeland allowed zero earned runs. Good news: Peralta has been even more effective at Coors Field over 12 career IP.

    When was the last time another team acquired a 24 year old starting pitcher who was a high draft pick but perhaps underperformed in his first 99 innings? Or similar

    Could Yophery and the comp pick just turn into Dave Krynzel? We could use a starter that keeps us in games now and for the next few years. Maybe it’s an overpay but we really won’t know for several years. I guess we don’t think Carlos Rodriguez or Misiorowski can take the ball for Milwaukee in April.

    Maybe I misremember but I received a lengthy survey from the Brewers after attending opening day. I perceived an important question being are the Brewers heading in the right direction on the field? I’m sure 80% of people disagreed with ‘going in the right direction’ after 0-4 start. Maybe we are super committed to ensuring our bite of the apple for 2025? Plus, we truly need starting pitching this week and next.
