  1. Robinson’s stuff has long been seen as plus. Honestly, he spent three years at Rookie ball never posting an ERA below 5. If he didn’t have plus stuff he wouldn’t have survived the COVID purge. It was just a matter of putting it all together, which he has. Guys with huge fastballs also tend to get picked. Despite the injury, I think there is a better chance Uribe is taken in the top three picks than that he goes undrafted if he isn’t added.

  3. Eh, Devanney is a bit older but Fangraphs touted his power potential at one point, so it isn't just a fluke with the power. A guy with power who can play all over the infield and isn't overly strikeout prone could be enticing. The Brewers took a similar guy in Colin Walsh a number of years ago.
  4. I had completely stopped following Yerlin Rodriguez’s stats after his rough start as a starter, but it looks like he has been much better lately in relief. Not a promotion I expected but adds another name to the long list of pitching possibilities at Carolina and Wisconsin next season.
  5. So much relies for pitchers on who has innings left. Because of the time missed with injuries (unless they are trying to hide him before the Rule 5 draft) Castaneda probably makes sense. From the bullpen, Andrews for the same reason and with the same caveat. Middendorf could be an interesting pick there too.
  6. I think there are going to be a lot of Valerio types left unprotected this year. The COVID year backed up a lot of players’ progress making more eligible players more years away from the majors. Turang and Robinson are arguably MLB ready and Uribe throws 102-mph fastballs. Those are easier to roster than a promising player who should probably start the year in AA and ideally would probably be a second-base only guy. Outside of the top three, I think Castaneda has the best chance of getting picked both because more pitchers typically get chosen and because I know I have read some thoughts that his stuff would play better in relief, the role he would have in the big leagues at this point.

  8. Yah, at this point with Robinson's promotion I can't see him not being kept. Andrews is kind of a sleeper, but between his size and the fact he hasn't pitched much since 2019, I don't know if he gets picked, especially this year when the missing COVID year is probably leading to a backlog of guys eligible.

  10. Eh, sometimes guys struggle a bit after getting promoted, especially since it was his first in-season one. He wasn't one of their top prospects, but it also wouldn't be shocking if he ended up turning into a Nori Aoki-type hitter. It just felt like this was one of those cases where the Giants should have been glad to get Rosenthal off their books and the Brewers gave up a passable prospect in the deal as well.
  11. Can’t speak to range/arm, but he also has done a really good job limiting errors this season as well. There are going to be a lot of really qualified candidates for playing time at 2b, ss, 3b at Wisconsin and Carolina next season.
  12. I usually scan articles where I can find them to keep up on injuries and the battles for the last few roster spots. I track box scores as well, partially to see which minor leaguers are brought over. I also scan the brewerspd twitter account to see their lineups, get an idea of who is getting stretched out as a starter, that sort of thing.
  13. Logistically a few of the pitchers taken in/signed after the draft are almost certainly going to start next season in high-A. Strong performances to end the year could give Woessner and Wagoner a leg up for those spots.
  14. Excluding short-season leagues, healthy players having the best seasons who haven't been promoted yet (might be missing a few, these are just who popped into my head): Pitchers: James Meeker, Pablo Garabitos, Michele Vassalotti HItters: Cam Devanney, Darrien Miller, Tristen Lutz Lutz is blocked by the three other promotees, and Miller might have been promoted were it not for Quero's injury, but mildly surprised that none of the others have gotten bumped up to the next level yet.
  15. I think you'd have to see more promotions to get more than one of the infielders up at Carolina. Brown, Moore and Areinamo are probably taking the infield at-bats the rest of the way and the five outfielders will gobble up most of the DH chances.
  16. I will just give the answer: Brailin Rodriguez, who was a late season call up along with Cornielle last season but missed this entire year with injury. The fact the Brewers treated him like a prospect despite middling stats makes him at least a little intriguing for me coming off injury next season. And I realize that the “age whatever season” thing is a bit arbitrary, but it is also easily sortable and this was something I noticed when looking at something for a blog post I might do.
  17. It is too bad that Small is struggling, otherwise how cool would it be to have four straight first round picks all performing well at triple-A. Also, I am sure it has been discussed, but forgot Turang seems to be the rare reverse split lefty.
  18. No, I was basically saying the pitcher wasn’t a draft pick. I will admit, this answer is pretty obscure. I don’t think he ever got a point in any of our prospect polls.
  19. 2006 was because that is as far back as Fangraphs went, and their setup makes it an easy source for the ages. And good guess with Jarvis, but of the 10 overall 18 year olds, the only draft pick was Feliciano.
  20. Trivia question: As per Fangraphs, when Herrera takes the mound he will be only the second Brewer pitcher since 2006 to play in low-A during his age-18 season (although like Herrera, the first might actually have been 19 upon his low-A debut). Name the first. Hint: He is still in the system.
  21. Between the stuff in that video and his stats, I wonder if Cam Robinson is a good comp in that patience will be required, but in a few years you could be looking at a pretty good prospect.

  23. Yah, I still like Valerio as a prospect, but he doesn’t fit the mold of a Rule 5 pick. He isn’t ready yet for an every-day spot but doesn’t really have the kind of versatility to stash in a utility role. I think Robinson is much more likely to get picked, and you can make the case Castaneda and Devanney are as well. If the Brewers are high enough on him, I could see him getting protected to eliminate any risk, but there are reasons he is less likely to be picked than you would think for a player of his ability. I have Turang and Uribe as locks and Robinson as likely. Castaneda, Valerio, Devanney, Garcia and Jarvis fall into the conceivable but I would give it less than 50% chance of happening category.
  24. End of the year (because I think they were close in the voting and not much will change before then): Stiven Cruz, Jadher Areinamo, Cam Devanney, Jace Avina Beginning of next season if they push for an MLB roster spot: Abner Uribe, Cam Robinson. As for early next season, along with the recent college/JUCO draft picks, keeping an eye on: Cornielle, Zamora, Vallecillo, Herrera, Aquino (if healthy), Henderson, Campbell, Smith, Nicasia and whoever earns the spots in the Carolina infield (Guilarte, Barrios, Perez, Vargas, O'Rae and Adams all have some pop-up potential).
  25. Nice to see Lara breaking out of his slump in a big way.
