  1. He still probably had the second best career of the four Rookie of the Year candidates that season. Lofton was the only one for whom that wasn’t the no question about it pinnacle of their careers. Bonus points to anyone who remembers the fourth.

  3. Perhaps, and it happens on occasion, but unless he re-signed before this could happen, it seemed like an interested team could have reached out to his agent saying that they would give him a 40-man spot. Unless he preferred to stay in the organization, I guess.

  5. I can’t say how many quarterbacks are better than Mertz, but I will say none of them play for Iowa.
  6. I typically hate assigning major league players as floors for guys who are still in the minors, especially those like Quero who haven’t hit AA. However, it is becoming increasingly difficult to see him not at least having Martin Maldonado’s career, with a ceiling much higher.
  7. As I said in my list, I am really waiting on the Brewers' decision on the 40-man to some degree, just because Devanney's path makes it tough for me to apply my usual thought process to him. I'm someone who is leery of putting too much weight on the stats of a guy repeating a level unless he is young for the league. Devanney isn't your normal repeat, though. After the lost COVID year, because he was older and the lower-level middle infield spots were populated by the likes of Hamilton, Holt, Zamora, Cantrelle and Valerio, he skipped A and high-A entirely. It was a big ask, and it obviously did not go well. But do I treat him as a guy who was a pure repeat, or like he was solid the previous year in high-A (like I think he would have been) and scuffled after a late-season promotion? For what it is worth, Fangraphs after his rookie ball season noted that he had plus power potential and nothing in the available numbers from last season, outside of his age, throws up a huge red flag.
  8. A few things: * I am not down on Frelick, just really high on Quero and impressed with how Wiemer cut his strikeouts at triple-A * I'm high on Areinamo, but there is a drop-off right before him on this list. * I'd have Devanney 14th if he was added to the 40-man and 22nd if he isn't, so I split the difference. * As I said before, I think the MLB Pipeline folks got word the organization is really high on Guilarte so I adjusted things accordingly * I put the ones past 20 in the quote box to save space. 1. Jackson Chourio 2. Jeferson Quero 3. Joey Wiemer 4. Sal Frelick 5. Brice Turang 6. Robert Gasser 7. Garrett Mitchell 8. Jacob Misiorowski 9. Esteury Ruiz 10. Tyler Black 11. Eric Brown Jr. 12. Carlos Rodriguez, Pitcher 13. Stiven Cruz 14. Jadher Areinamo 15. Alexander Cornielle 16. Hendry Mendez 17. Daniel Guilarte 18. Cam Devanney 19. Ethan Small 20. Abner Uribe
  9. I haven’t published my list yet, but I am going to have Ruiz 9 because someone from that tier has to be. For me, after Chourio, 2-4 are really close, and the same for 5-9, 10-11, 12-13, and 14-20. It is nice the system has so many prospects coming off big years that the answer to “Why do you have prospect X so low?” is “I really like prospects Y and Z.” I know I am going to be using that sentence with mine, substituting Frelick for X and Quero and Wiemer for Y and Z.
  10. Robinson is the right choice, but I would be very tempted to put Garabitos second. I don’t know how he matches up with the others prospect-wise, but I am not sure any reliever was more valuable to their pitching staff than he was down the stretch, giving the team long, quality outings after Carolina’s most consistent starters all got promoted to Wisconsin.

  12. One of the big things I took from this is after doing something different last year the Brewers are back to participating in the in more formal instructs.
  13. Some of these had either advanced stats better than their ERA or limited innings because of injury or promotion, but I think Vallecillo, Patricio Aquino and Daniel Corniel are worthy of mention as well. I worry what his injury is, but Aquino was basically 2021 Alexander Cornielle.

  15. There are a lot of worthy honorable mentions, but if you read hitter as position player, Gregory Barrios probably should be in the group right after those three. He didn’t hit for much power but got on base at a .360 clip and had one of the best fielding percentages of any middle infielder in the system as an 18-year-old.

  17. I think too early to hit the panic button. A lot of guys seem to struggle with walks right after a promotion (Wasn't it Jimmy Nelson who was kind of notorious for it?) and then settle down. If he is still walking 6-per come next year, then yah, it's cause to worry.
  18. Storms knocked out our signal when the Bears got first and goal before the goal line stand, but before that I can’t remember the last time I saw a QB have so little impact, positive or negative, on a game, and I am a Wisconsin fan.
  19. Don’t they have a taxi squad or something like that where the players are only eligible to play two days a week? Maybe he is one of the Brewers’ for that and they aren’t listed on the graphic.
  20. If I remember correctly, teams “draft” positions, so they might just have had an outfield spot to fill so they put him there.
  21. It’s good to see some of those pitchers are going to get some more innings in. Every single one makes some sense, Especially if you look at it from a position perspective.
  22. If you include Mitchell's pre-promotion numbers, at this moment the Brewers have four legitimate outfield prospects each with a .900+ OPS in triple-A.
  23. Am I the only one thinking it is better than 50/50 that Chourio starts next season in Biloxi? Maybe I am overreacting to some of this year’s aggressive promotions but I wouldn’t even be shocked if Quero starts at double-A.
  24. I will toss Ernesto Martinez out there. Needs some more at bats, and the Brewers have been trending toward lower level guys recently. Some of their “taxi squad” or however they refer to it, picks have been so young that I wouldn’t rule out Jace Avina for one of those spots.
  25. It is so tough to tell without knowing pitching inning limits or who they might want to shield from exposure from exposure before the rule 5 draft, but on Small, I would lean the other way. I will admit to knowing nothing about player development, but it seemed like pitching his way out of his issues wasn’t working during the season. Just working behind the scenes might be better than more games at this point.
