  1. Nice to see Joe Gray has shaken off his slow start in Wisconsin. Hopefully Mitchell's good night can be the start of a similar hot streak with Biloxi.
  2. I really thought when they drafted him in the 11th, especially after saving on some of their earlier picks, that there was a deal in place with Riggio. Guess that either wasn't the case or something broke down. Hopefully they can get the four other high schoolers to sign (Vire, Low, Avina, Rogers).
  3. Quite the outing for Patricio Aquino today. Both DSL teams are currently boasting strikeout-walk rates of 2.5 or better, which would shatter the Brewers DSL record since the team returned and both rank in the top six in the lead, albeit very early on. Hopefully the Brewers have managed to unearth a few gems with some of these guys and in a couple of years we're talking about Aquino, Miguel Segura, Stiven Cruz, Alexander Vallecillo or Edwin Jimenez rising up Brewers prospect lists.
  4. I know it isn't the case, but it felt like Spanberger doubled his season RBI total tonight. Man, he had a game.
  5. Hopefully this starts a chain reaction with a few of the guys who pitched today (Matulovich, Hasler, Luna) being among the one promoted
  6. I really thought, given the number of pitchers who had to be brought over to fill out the two Arizona League rosters, that the DSL pitching staffs were going to be an understandable disaster. The fact that they so far, albeit in a limited number of games, have been pretty solid is a testament to the players, coaches and scouts. Here's hoping it continues.
  7. Another Wisconsin possibility is Chirino. Hard-thrower, reasonably successful, been in the system a while already.
  8. It looks like with the last two like they are going with guys who didn’t get drafted at least in part because of injury. There are worse ways to find someone who might have been overlooked.
  9. I think you promote whichever Carolina infielder you think is most ready. Between the draft picks, the ACL guys and the injured players, there are going to be a ton of guys competing for playing time at A and high-A next season, so the more guys you can give a chance to move closer to earning a double-A spot the better. It might be more two weeks from now, but if Reifert keeps throwing strikes, I could see him getting bumped to AA. He has been dominant when he avoids walking guys, and relievers tend to move fast.
  10. Once some of the potential backfill guys complete their rehab stints or show the organization what they can do in Arizona, I wonder if we'll see promotions to AA for both Floyd and Reifert (9 1/3 innings, 3 hits, 3 walks, 17 strikeouts in last six appearances).
  11. With it looking like the catcher experiment is almost over, I would have Thomas Dillard about 30th on the Brewers list. Ball feels like poor man’s version of Dillard.
  12. Given they've got two center fielders there I'd wager Hummel is in left.
  13. Yah, the Riggio pick feels like one where they know their budget and his demands and believe they can make it work. Holten feels like a fall back option if negotiations with Riggio go sour, unless they really went that far under slot. I imagine Moore and Mendez probably sign. If they can split the difference and sign three of the other six that would be solid.
  14. Great to see Kelly's name in a box score again, plus a Hedbert Perez home run. Pretty good night on the farm.
  15. Will be interesting to see how many of these guys sign. It is weird to think the Brewers have drafted more JUCO pitchers than 4-year college pitchers thus far. I wonder if the Brewers weren’t the biggest fans of the depth in this year’s college pitching crop of if the Angels just drafted them all.
  16. I can't find much in the way of scouting reports on kind of scouting reports on Tristan Peters, but have to like the 3:2 walk to strikeout rate in college.
  17. Was just about to say this felt like the Hairston pick. First sort of head-scratcher for me as well. Hopefully I'm wrong.
  18. I was just thinking it was time for a JUCO strikeout artist. The Brewers do seem to mine the JUCO ranks pretty early more than other teams lately.
  19. Also, Woodruff was an 11th rounder, but I remember the bonus being significantly more than what you would expect for that round.
  20. It could also be the Brewers value plus changeups more than the prospect rankers do. I think it was one of the fangraphs guys who said when a pitcher exceeds expectations, a plus changeup is often the reason.
  21. I’d like a 3b, 1b, corner OF, and some more arms. But we had 5 pitching heavy drafts before 2020, so we have a ton of pitchers and almost no hitters While I know that you could make a case Wisconsin is missing its top two starters and Carolina its top three to injury, when I look at the two A-ball teams and the ACL teams, the hitting prospects dwarf the pitching prospects. I know an 8-3 split in rounds 1-10 is unlikely, but given how heavily the organization is tilted toward hitting in its July 1 spending and how the top two picks were hitters, I don't think a 7-4 one would necessarily be out of balance.
  22. I know a lot will be dictated by who is on the board, but I'd be perfectly content to go with one corner infielder and eight pitchers tomorrow. I know getting some of the guys back from injury will help, but the pitching depth, especially at the lower levels, isn't great right now.
  23. Given that the Brewers have shown they are willing to take raw upside pitchers in Round 2, I wonder if they end up being the landing spot for Brody Brecht in Round 2 or 3 (assuming he is signable).
  24. High school infielder like Pacheco, Stovall or Kath?
  25. Even if Watson and House go before them, at least one of Ford, Frelick and McLain would be on the board.
