  1. This actually feels like a pretty good deal for all sides. I guess I could see the A's possibly wanting a bit more, and not sure if that would require both the Brewers and Dodgers stepping up with a better prospect in one of these spots? But, overall - it would at least seem like a good starting point, with three teams where it could be a good match?
  2. Is it just safe to assume at this point that Wiemer was sent home with some type of an injury?
  3. Woah....had to do a double take when I saw the name Victor Santos! Thought it was the vampire himself, still trying to play some baseball down in winter ball. Unfortunately though, it looks to be some 21 year old with the same name. Damn!
  4. Still no Wiemer in the lineup today. Has to be an injury. Do we know if Hamilton maybe replaced Wiemer on the roster? Is his AFL season over with? I wish we could get some type of a report from the AFL on the situation.
  5. Not sure if I like the idea of including Hader into this big three-way deal idea. How about: Brewers get: Olson A's get: Hiura (or Tellez if they find him more valuable), Turang, and Frelick Obviously, this would all depend on whether or not the A's place any remaining value on Keston and their ability to get his swing figured out at the MLB level. I'd hate to sell low on Keston, but a package like this would still be applying some value to his future potential. We'd be giving up two of our two 3-4 prospects, but to get a few years of a big bat in Olson in his prime, seems like it would be a good move for the Brewers. I don't think we can just sit back and hope that Yeli or Keston return to their pre '20 form, so let's go out and get another big bat to help this insanely good SP.
  6. Bit of a head scratcher MLB signing, isn't it? Guy hasn't really been great at all of his stops. Clearly, our scouting department must like some of his peripherals and think they can fix some things? Seems like this would have been more of a minor league signing guy with an invite to ST, but what do I know?
  7. He is still showing on the roster it maybe he is just getting some rest. I think there is an agreed upon number of innings or games that each player can play in and Wiemer maybe coming up on his limit set by the Brewers. Could also be that other players are currently short on the number of innings or games played. I couldn't find anything in terms of an injury. I hope you're right. It just sucks though because nobody was hotter than Wiemer in the AFL when he last played on Wednesday. Just seems odd that you would sit a guy for the next 4-5 games when he's tearing the cover off the ball like he was. Maybe there is some type of game/innings limit that they are trying to adhere to, and they want to have him for the stretch run? I can't recall - do they have a playoffs in the AFL?
  8. Does anyone have any insight as to why Wiemer hasn't played in the AFL since last Wednesday? Is he suffering from an injury? David Hamilton didn't replace Wiemer on the roster, did he? Wouild be a bummer if his AFL season was cut short.
  9. I'm going to guess that Reynolds would cost us a package that looks like this: Ashby, Mitchell, Wiemer and Hedbert Perez Reynolds is looking like a guy that is blossoming into a really good MLB OF, but man - you'd be gutting the farm system completely to get him.
  10. I agree on Hader. It's obviously been well known that we've had some trade discussions the past year or so on him, but nothing ever came to fruition. He did nothing but help his value this past season (his lackluster playoff performance aside), so I've got to think that something is going to happen this winter. But, the big question - is there another team willing to pay Stearns's asking price for Hader?
  11. I hear what you are saying, but is there a contending team that is going to give up an AS bat in return for a SP? Seems like a situation where you'd be improving one part of your MLB team, but severely weakening another?
  12. With so many of our guys facing pretty substantial raises this winter in arbitration, is it possible that this might be the time to trade one of our big pitchers? Could this be the winter where we see Woody or Hader being dealt (or maybe even both)? I'm not saying that I'm advocating for it, but I just wonder if the right offer came along, if Stearns and Co. wouldn't consider making a move. With that in mind, what teams might be desperate this winter to pick up pitching? One team I keep coming back to is the Blue Jays. They have such a good nucleus of young offensive players, but I'm guessing that they could probably use another high-level SP. Would they be in the market for a Brandon Woodruff? Which team would ultimately say "no" to a Nate Pearson/Jordan Groshans package for Woody? Too much for the Jays to give up for a couple of years of a top-end SP, or too little for the Brewers to get back for that? Or, how about we go "big" and package Woody/Hader together for: Pearson, Groshans, Moreno and Otto Lopez? Granted, I don't know a ton about any of these prospects, so maybe some of you might know more about these guys - and suggest that we stay away from them? But, just looking for teams that are going to be in that "desperate" mode this winter to find good, young pitching. And again - I would hate to see us trade away Woody and Hader, but I also know that we might need to get a little creative this winter with a lot of these guys getting more expensive through arby.
  13. I just saw that they released the AFL schedule for next month, and it got me curious as to when the Brewers might reveal which players will be participating this year. Anyone have any thoughts on who we might send to this? Is Mitchell an option, especially with all of the time he missed this year? Do we even know what his injury situation was? What other prospects do we think might be good candidates to play this year?
  14. OK, I'm not as familiar with Darrien Miller. Can someone fill me in on this kid? I see that he was a prep draft pick two years ago in the 9th round, so must be a kid with some potential. But, is this a guy that we should be legitimately excited about, or did he just have one of those fluky career nights?
  15. At this stage, are we pretty safe to say that the division race is just about wrapped up? We could play .500 baseball the rest of the way by going 15-14 (which for this team and the way they are playing, would probably be a major disappointment), and the Reds would have to go 25-3 just to finish with the same record as us. The Cardinals you ask? Well, they would have to go 28-3 just to tie us in that scenario. Let's say the wheels fall off and we stumble to a 12-17 finish in Sept/Oct. In that scenario, the Reds would still need to finish 22-6 just to tie us with the Cards going 25-6 to tie us. It's becoming almost academic at this stage, isn't it?
  16. I haven't been this excited about the system in many years. So many breakouts this year (obviously some might have happened last year and they just didn't get the chance) and stellar debuts from this year's draft picks. Gray, Wiemer, Valerio, Hedbert, Mitchell, Frelick, Murray, Zamora, Black, Binelas, etc.....can't wait to see what they do going forward. I'm with you 100%. Our system has no doubt been down the past 2-3 years (even though we've still had some guys come up to the big leagues that have been highly productive players), but I definitely a feel like a resurgence has happened this summer with many of our young prospects having breakout seasons. In fact, I was a bit shocked that MLB Pipeline only ranked our system 25th in their latest ranking (just outside the bottom 5 teams). I didn't think we'd be top 15, but I definitely thought we'd be somewhere around the 18-22 spots. Maybe I'm just overvaluing some of our own prospects (which is possible), but I do really like the influx of young positional players we have coming up through the system right now. Only real complaint is the lack of pitching prospects after Ashby and Small.
  17. MLB Pipeline released their Top 50 International prospects for this year: https://www.mlb.com/prospects/international/ Looks like Severino at 21 and Barrios at 23. I don't think I see any other projected Brewers signings on the list.
  18. What do you think he gets in free agency (assuming he can keep up his production)? I think Avi can get something in the 3-4 year range and a total of about $50-60m. AAV should be something around $15-17m. Are we thinking that Escobar will demand a similar type of deal this winter? They're having similar seasons this year, but Avi is also a couple of years younger. Would it be possible to get EE on a 2-year deal? Maybe 2 years, 30M?
  19. Personally, I think it makes way too much sense not to bring Escobar back - assuming that you could get him on a 2-3 year deal. Love the fact that he's a switch-hitter, and even more that he provides positional flexibility. We could play him some at 3B, some at 1B (especially since the Hiura/Tellez situation is still a bit unknown), and even some in the OF as needed. I would try to lock EE up on a deal and let Avi walk. As good as Avi has been this year, I would think that a full year out of EE would help make up for some of what we'd be losing there - and we have OF pretty much covered with Yeli, Cain, JBJ and TT all coming back.
  20. Ah....interesting. I guess I didn't think about the fact that he was Canadian and would need to get the work visa - since he was already playing college baseball down here. Good to know. Hopefully he can get this resolved soon so that they can get him into some game action yet this summer.
  21. Honestly, he should probably be up there already. He's proven in a very short period of time that his bat is way too advanced for both Rookie Ball and Low A ball pitching. Let's get aggressive with him and get him up to Appleton soon.
  22. Yeah, I'm shocked that Valerio hasn't gotten a promotion yet. What more does this kid have to prove down at Carolina? Is it his defense that's holding him back?
  23. Sorry if this has been posted somewhere else, but have we heard anything on why Black hasn't played in a game yet? I figured we'd see his name show up on one of those AZ team box scores, but nothing so far. Is he dealing with an injury of some kind?
  24. Yeah, I think this has been a head scratcher for a couple of years now, as the Brewers have always been very slow in promoting Barker - despite putting up pretty dominant numbers at every level of the minor leagues. Does anyone know if it is more of a "stuff" issue with him? Does he simply not have 1-2 really great pitches that it would take to get big league hitters out?
  25. Do the Mets still need SP help? Could we not trade them someone like Lauer (or Houser) for JD Davis? I know we'd need to add in more though, so maybe you package in a Freddy Zamora - or someone at that level? Then, go out and get yourself a Berrios or a Gibson to fill that hole in the rotation. But then - I guess the Mets could just go and trade for Berrios or Gibson themselves, so it probably isn't likely to happen.
