  1. No offense, but I'm not sure if that rotation is worthy of an "OMG?" Yes, Woody and Burnes are a phenomenal top 2, and I would be completely on board with a Rich Hill signing (assuming he could stay healthy). Houser though needs to figure out how to get LHH out, as he got absolutely destroyed this past year against them. And, while I know it was a small sample size in a crazy year - I was not at all impressed by Lindblom. Yes, there would be a lot of nice potential in that rotation, but I also feel like 3/5 of that rotation brings A LOT of question marks with it as well.
  2. Agreed - no reason to include Hader and Hiura in the same trade. You typically can maximize trade returns by trading guys in separate deals. And did I see that the Twins signed Colome yesterday for their pen, or did I see something incorrectly? Maybe it was just someone speculating on a deal?
  3. As much as I want Ramirez, I agree with this take 100%. IF the Indians really did want to move Ramirez right now, then I just don't see any way that we'd win any type of a bidding war for him - as other teams with deeper farm systems (looking at the Braves and Dodgers for sure) would easily out-bid us. It would take a haul similar to what we gave up for Yelich (three Top 100 guys) to get three years of Ramirez on a very team friendly contract. Honestly, to get the conversation started with the Indians - we'd probably have to offer up Hiura, Mitchell AND Turang. And, that may not even be enough to beat another team's return package?
  4. I would guess Small or Ashby, and perhaps someone like Je'von Ward. I would do that trade in a heartbeat. I would too. Which likely means that Cleveland would not be comfortable with this package. My guess is that it would take Hiura, Mitchell and maybe someone like Henry to get a deal done for Ramirez. Maybe I'm off base though with my projection?
  5. With the Wong signing, do you think there is any chance that we might look to package Hiura in a deal for Jose Ramirez? I know you would hate to trade away a young, controllable talent like Keston - but without the DH in the NL, I'm just not sure we have a great spot for him? Maybe it works out at 1B, but there's an equally good chance that it doesn't. What else would we have to include with Keston to get the Indians interested in dealing us Ramirez?
  6. OK - I figured I probably didn't have that fair enough for all three sides, which is why I mentioned that the Reds might have to pony up another good player in this deal that would go to the Rays. I just don't know what the Rays needs are to best evaluate who the Reds could send to them that would make this deal more appealing? Also, are the Rays really shopping Adames, or are we just assuming that they might be soon here since they have Wander Franco coming quickly?
  7. With recent rumors linking the Reds to Tampa's shortstop Willy Adames, could be a fun three-way deal that sends Hader to Tampa and nets Jonathan India in return. Not sure how keen the Reds would be on dealing him, especially to a division rival. India can also play second, but they're pretty loaded long-term there with Suarez and Moose (and I think Senzel can handle second as well). Keith Law had India at 88 in his top 100 he released the other day, and said he looked good at the off-site last year after a rough 2019. MLB didn't have him in the top 100, but did have him as the #9 third base prospect. I'm not always sure how these 3-team trades work, but just to piggy-back off your thoughts - would these possibly work out: Brewers get: Mike Brosseau Shane Baz Jonathan India Rays get: Josh Hader Reds get: Willy Adames My gut says that the Rays are giving up too much here, and the Reds may need to send a player to the Rays in this deal to make it happen?
  8. I'm not good at linking tweets to this message board, but there was just a tweet this morning from a Jon Becker (anyone know who that is?), and it claims that Eddie is most likely going to sign very soon here (maybe even today), and the Brewers, Braves and Dodgers are pursuing the hardest. It also mentioned an interesting nugget that Brewers are asking him to play 1B if he agreed to deal with us. It would seem to me though that the Dodgers and Braves have pretty crowded OF's as well right now - so not sure where those teams are looking at having him get most of his playing time?
  9. My GOD....after JT, that 3B and 1B list of remaining options is really depressing! For the love of God, Stearns and Arnold - please go get us Turner!
  10. Rumor is Dodgers will pivot to Bryant if they cant re-sign JT. Come on Stearns, swoop him up first! I have a feeling we are going to get the news soon here that JT is re-signing with LA, and the meltdown here will be intense! If we don't get JT, what are the options out there to fill the 3B hole? Gyorko again? Did LaStella sign with SF this week? Who else is out there for us to sign?
  11. It certainly makes you wonder if that might be what is slowing this down? Otherwise, I would have thought that the Dodgers would have already made him a good offer to bring him back to LA. Or, are they looking at possibly moving Seager over to 3B next year to make room for Lux at SS? It does make you wonder though if the Dodgers are stalling a bit here on JT, and might be trying to make a bigger deal that would bring them someone like Bryant or Arrenado?
  12. Anybody else kind of miss HighHeat around here? Even if the guy was full of crap and spitting out stupid rumors that had no legitimacy - it at least made for some excitement around here that winter! Bring back HH19!!
  13. Yeah, I'm starting to get more and more behind the idea of a Brewers "overpay" here. Yeah, it would suck if we have to go 3 years on him (as I'm sure we might have some regret during that 3rd year), but he seems like a guy that should still be a really solid bat in our lineup over the next couple of years. As has already been discussed, I think the only way we get him to Milwaukee is if we offer him up an additional year from what LAD is offering him.
  14. First of all - I think I'll just rejoice if we get Frazier out of the NL Central, because that guy seems to kill us each and every year - at least a couple of times during the season. Not sure though if he'd make much sense for us though to make a trade. His offensive numbers really only play at 2B and if we don't have the DH anymore to get Hiura AB's, then I'm just not sure where we'd play Frazier? I think we'd need someone with a bit more power to play 3B for us.
  15. 2020 - Extends Yelich for 7 yrs, $188.5M 2019 - Signs Grandal for $18.25M (w/ buyout) 2018 - Signs Cain for 5 yrs, $80M 2011 - Extends Braun for 5 yrs, $105M Also, I'm not sure you should be happy if they paid $18-20M for a player like Semien of Turner right now... I will gladly take Justin Turner on this team... Have you seen the things we've trotted out to 3B recently? Cain Yelich Turner Hiura Yep I'm good with that. While I would hate to see us overpay for JT, I'm really hoping that we can find a way to make this work with him - ideally on a 2 year deal. I'm sure we'll have to overpay to get him out of LA, but he is clearly the best 3B option out on the market right now, and I think we can all agree that we have a huge hole at that position right now. Please find a way to make this work David and Mark! Then, maybe we can still find a way to sign someone like CJ Cron to man 1B for us on a 1-year deal?
  16. No way we get both of these guys, right?? Just can't imagine that would happen, but I guess we can dream. If we did get both, then I'm guessing we'd try to trade Arcia. We'd still need to find a 1B on top of those moves.
  17. I think we've known they're trying. We just haven't had any sense of what they were trying. And I think that's what's had many folks so frustrated. Brewers scoops have hardly leaked this year, whereas in the past there have been more "the Brewers are checking in on ____ ...." morsels floating out there for us to chew on. Of course nothing's guaranteed to come of this, but overall I find this & the Semien scoop quite encouraging. I'm not sure who the ideal options would be, but we could do a whole lot worse than Justin Turner and at least for the pessimists out there it's now "known" that Stearns isn't presently in the mode of dredging for leftovers at the bottom of the dumpster. And we know now that Mark A has been brought in to talk to at least one free agent, so it seems pretty clear that DS has been actively trying to work his magic to bring in a relatively big F/A or two. I doubt he gets Mark A involved if it's not at least a pretty big name that we are trying to lure. My guess is that Mark met with either Semien or Turner (or both) in recent weeks.
  18. The unfortunate thing is that we know we'd have to overpay to get JT, if we are competing with three other teams for his services. I'd love to get him on a 1 year deal, but it feels pretty unlikely that would get it done.
  19. The more I look at this offensive numbers, the less impressed with him I get. If we were bringing him in at SS, then I'd absolutely be on board with signing him. But, because we would probably be looking at him manning 3B primarily, then he becomes quite a bit less impressive. Asking him to replicate those 2019 numbers is probably a longshot, especially when we all know that they were playing with a slightly different baseball that year. With that said though - not a lot of options out there to fill all of our IF holes. So, I'd still be on board with signing him if it doesn't break the bank.
  20. I hate to get my hopes up for Semien, because I feel like as soon as I do we'll hear that he's signing with the Twins. But, I agree - this make a lot of sense on so many levels, assuming he's OK playing 3B. Like RRB said tho, where would he play? They have 3B and SS taken. Unless Donaldson to DH? Idk. Are the Twins bringing back Nelson Cruz? If not, then maybe they would plan to rotate Semien in at SS and 3B, giving Donaldson and Polanco some days off in the field so that they can DH? That's really the only scenario I could come up with. Twins have a better roster though to win now, but also a tougher division with the White Sox coming on strong and the Tigers on the uptick. So, maybe we can convince him that Brewers would have best chance to win Central next year if he came on board? Maybe??
  21. I hate to get my hopes up for Semien, because I feel like as soon as I do we'll hear that he's signing with the Twins. But, I agree - this make a lot of sense on so many levels, assuming he's OK playing 3B.
  22. Agreed ... I would think that Attanasio wouldn't be brought in to recruit unless something was getting close. I also would think that he wouldn't be brought in unless the target was at least a relatively big name. Perhaps that is me grasping at straws at this point, but I still have some hope that they are working on something that isn't the "bargain bin" type move many complain about around here. Yeah, I caught that comment too. I can't imagine that Mark would have been brought in to sell a guy like Daniel Robertson, so yeah - seems like we are at least talking to a bigger FA or two. What we don't know though is if the guy he talked to is still unsigned, or if it was someone that already picked another team. Either way though, it's at least encouraging to hear that we are swimming in the FA pool this winter, because I had serious doubts until I heard that comment on Friday. Maybe the Brewers beat reporters just need to do more winter interviews with Mark A instead of Stearns - as I think Mark is less polished in keeping things under wraps.
  23. OK - with Hand now officially signing with the Nats tonight, do we think there is any chance the Mets would try to make a run at Hader? My guess is that they probably aren't desperate enough to make DS a good enough offer, but curious what everyone else thinks. J.D. Davis and Brett Baty for Hader? Guessing the Mets would not do a package like that?
  24. "Really good" is a bit of a stretch IMO. I'd settle for "solid" in 2018.
  25. Can someone explain the MLB contract to a guy like this? Seems like a guy that would have easily been attainable with no MLB spot guaranteed? Or, am I wrong in that line of thinking?
