  1. It's definitely him. Personality is the same, like when he threatened to quit Twitter when someone questioned him. Info still seems to be generally solid. I don't think it would be that hard to impersonate him. He was pretty adamant that he had no social media presence...would be weird to say that on here and then have the exact same username on Twitter. Yeah, I'm doubting that whoever this is on twitter is really the HH19 guy that was on here posting as recent as a week ago. Also, he appears to be giving some of his info to the Al's Ramblings blog that somebody mentioned yesterday on one of these threads. I just checked that blog and I don't see anything concerning Stroman (fwiw).
  2. It's definitely him. Personality is the same, like when he threatened to quit Twitter when someone questioned him. Info still seems to be generally solid. What's his twitter handle? Wasn't he adamant just a week ago that he wasn't on social media?
  3. Correct me if I'm wrong - but we'd only have him for three years before F/A, right? As opposed to 4 years with Archer. So, is it conceivable to think that he'd cost less than Archer in a package? Looking at his numbers last year, it looks like his numbers may have been a tad bit better than how he actually pitched as well. Not a great K rate and a high WHIP last year, but still managed a low 3 ERA. Any chance that a Santana, Burnes, Peralta package gets it done? They'd have a middle of the order bat in Santana that could DH/Of for the next 4 years, and then two really good looking pitching prospects. Maybe we could throw in one lottery ticket prospect as well?
  4. I thought HH19 said that he wasn't on Twitter? Are we sure this isn't one of the fake twitter accounts? Interesting that he's been in AZ the past few days - right before P's and C's report.
  5. Boy, if there is any way that we could get Arrieta on a 4 year deal with a higher AAV than what Darvish got, I think I'd be all in. 4 years at 100M? I know there are concerns with him moving forward here, and it would be a high risk signing for a small market team like the Brewers. But, the guy is an absolute bulldog, and you know that he's going to want to beat the Cubs at all cost over the next few years. That would really ratchet up the rivalry to another level if Arrieta came to the Brewers and going up against them 4-5 times a year. Now, I severely doubt that Jake takes anything less than 5 years, and probably no less than 6 after what the Cubs just gave Darvish. And with Boras running the show, I'm sure he'll hold out until some desperate team meets those demands.
  6. Yep, you nailed it. I know Colome is a nice piece, but I'd question whether another pen arm is worth the cost. Agreed. Stearns doesn't strike me as a guy that's willing to give up a ton of prospects for a bullpen arm. I think he's much more interested in finding the reclaimation projects for the pen each year, especially with how volatile pen arms typically are. The fact that TB hasn't traded either Archer or Colome this offseason tells me that their demands for both guys are extremely high - and no team has been willing to meet those demands. The pricetag for both of them in the same deal would literally wipe out all of our remaining top prospects. Personally, I'm not interested in doing that.
  7. Let's just say that our farm system would go from a borderline Top 10 system that we have today to probably a bottom 5 system. I'll take a stab and will say: Santana Burnes Hiura Peralta Ortiz Carmona How far off am I?
  8. My goodness - if Arrieta turned down the deal that Darvish ended up getting, then I'd have to say he's getting terrible advice.
  9. I actually wouldn't mind this deal for Domingo. Would immediately help us restock our farm system, although I have to admit that I don't know much about Clarke? Is he a future mid-level rotation guy?
  10. So, what would a Santana/Corbin package look like if we were to strike a deal? Obviously, we'd need more than just Corbin for the value we'd be giving up with Domingo. Would either Pavin Smith or Duplantier be included in the deal? No way we'd get both of them and Corbin, right?
  11. And let's face it - teams rarely go through a season using only 5 SP's. Usually you need AT LEAST 6-7 SP's, and I'm sure that the Cubs would love to have Montgomery in that swing role again where he could step into the rotation throughout the season as needed.
  12. I'd be curious - calling HH19 , if the Brewers FO still feels that the chances are slim that Darvish signs with us? Does he really still think that he's going to get a 6-7 year deal from someone, and is he willing to hold out until that type of deal presents itself? Or, is he just hung up on not wanting to play for a team in the Midwest and is waiting for a team like the Dodgers or Rangers to figure out a way to make him an offer?
  13. I just looked up his numbers, and I must say that I was a bit surprised at how solid McHugh has been thus far in his career. Is he the TOR starter that I think this rotation still needs? No, he isn't. But, he's put up some pretty good numbers pitching in the AL and in that bandbox of a stadium in Houston over the past 4 season. As someone else mentioned though - you'd only have him for this year and next before he hits FA. And again - while he'd be a nice addition to the staff, I'm not sure if he pushes the needle as a TOR type guy would. But, he also shouldn't cost us nearly as much as Archer would in prospects. Certainly an interesting guy, and I agree that I might actually prefer him over someone like Odorizzi.
  14. Part of me is questioning whether the Cubs really want to add another starter. They have Lester/Hendricks/Quintana at the top. They singed Chatwood to start and they seem to like Montgomery to close out the rotation. They know they have arbitration issues coming up. I think they are just trying to keep him out of Milwaukee believe it or not. I think LA is the only real place for him with Maybe Minnesota creeping in. I'd be fine with him in Minnesota. I hear what you are saying, but I also think that the Cubs probably feel some pressure to go out and add one more SP to their rotation - considering the moves that the Brewers have made thus far, and the expectation that the Brewers are definitely looking to add one of the top 4 SP's. Maybe it is all just posturing on their part to drive up the price so that it prevents the Brewers from getting him, but I guess I have my doubts on that.
  15. So, if Darvish doesn't sign with the Brewers (which all signs point to him signing elsewhere), where do we hope he lands? My preference would be that we keep him out of Chicago, but if the Cubs don't sign Darvish, then I would guess they'd turn their attention to Cobb. And, I guess I'm thinking that my #1 choice out of the F/A starters would be that the Brewers sign Cobb. So, let's say that the Dodgers clear salary and are able to bring back Darvish (have no idea how realistic this is?), then the Cubs probably end up signing Cobb, leaving us to either pony up for Arrieta or be left with the forth best option in Lynn. I would guess that the dominoes start to fall pretty quickly if/when Darvish ever decides to pull the trigger, so I'm just curious as to how everyone hopes that this all plays out?
  16. I'm not opposed to a Santana for prospects deal at all. However, the pitching thing has to be taken care of and I'm still of the opinion that Santana is part of that solution. I agree 100%. But, couldn't we go out and sign an Alex Cobb, and then use some of the prospects generated from a Santana trade to go out and get a TOR starter (ideally with some controllable years) - either now or at the trade deadline? Maybe Boston's prospects aren't a good fit for a Santana deal though?
  17. How about a Groome/Scherff/Raudes package for Santana? Some high ceiling, low floor profiles with all three of those guys though, so not sure if Stearns would want to pull the trigger on a deal like that for a proven MLB guy like Santana?
  18. Or, wouldn't the Red Sox have some interest in Santana? I realize that they may not have the MLB ready arms that we might be looking for in a package for Santana, but maybe we could look to trade him there for a prospect package? However, just looking at Boston's top prospect list - boy, has that system dropped off in recent years (after trades and guys graduating to the pros). Is there much in that system that you'd like to see come back for Santana? I guess I'm thinking that this could help us replenish our farm system a bit, and we could then use some of those pieces to trade for a TOR starting pitcher (either before the season or at the trade deadline).
  19. Honestly, I think I'd sign up for that 4 yr, 65M deal right now with Cobb. I don't want the spend the money it is going to take to get Darvish, and Arrieta just scares me too much moving forward to give him the type of contract that he's going to command. I know Cobb comes with risks as well, but I could see him putting up very similar numbers over the next four years (assuming good health) to that of Darvish and Arrieta. We could start the season with a rotation of Anderson, Cobb, Davies, Chacin and Woodruff. Then, we could evaluate what we have with Jimmy sometime in June - and if we are in contention - we can use some of our prospect pieces at that point to go out and find that TOR starter that we need (Stroman, deGrom, Fulmer, etc.).
  20. I think if the Brewers are expected to eat all of Kipnis's salary, his deal comes pretty close to negative value. But with the way pitching seems to be valued this year, though, I'd argue that Salazar may have a bit more value than Santana. If that's the case, it might be a straight 2-for-1 deal. I guess it wouldn't surprise me to see low-level minor leaguers changing teams as well. I don't imagine it would be anything of big significance, though. OK - I guess that's how I saw this as well, but I just wasn't sure if I was looking at it with my Brewer goggles on? Yes, Kipnis has value, but if we are picking up the majority of that salary - then I think his value goes way, way down in any type of a trade deal. If Cleveland picks up a chunk of the remaining salary, then I guess I wouldn't mind throwing in a lower level minor league guy into the deal, but I would hope that it wouldn't be a guy with too high of an upside (Carmona, Rodriguez, etc.).
  21. OK - let's say that we eat the majority (if not all) of Kipnis's salary and we get Salazar in the deal as well. Does Santana straight up get that deal done? Or, which team would have to throw in another piece in this deal? To me, Santana has more value than Salazar - but I'm not sure how to value Kipnis being added in as a piece to this deal? Would the Indians still want another piece added in on the Brewers side even if we took on the majority of his remaining salary? Or, would DS want something else added in to the deal if we have to eat the salary on our end? I'm just not sure how to evaluate this deal if Kipnis is added in, so curious for other's input on this.
  22. HH19 - thanks for the update. You mentioned that one sizeable trade is stuck on one player. Can you at least tell us if that is the Archer trade, or do you know if this is a different trade proposal?
  23. And how do we know that this is actually good news, or significant news? I don't think HH19 really specified what type of "news" he was giving us, did he?
  24. And, I'm assuming that Toronto is in a similar boat as the Orioles, correct? A team that has had recent success in the playoffs and probably doesn't want the PR nightmare of completely tearing things down this soon and starting over - even if it makes sense to go that route. I know Stroman has been brought up before on this board, and I'm guessing it would take a similar package of Santana, Burnes, Peralta and another decent prospect to even get Toronto to call you back. And, I'm guessing they too don't have a real need for Santana right now - especially if they did decide to tear down and start over.
  25. Would the O's have any interest in Santana as part of a package? Brewers get: Bundy O's get: Santana, Ortiz, Peralta Does this get it done? Or, do the O's demand that either Burnes/Hiura is a part of this deal? I'm guessing they'd probably want Burnes or Hiura - but I'm not sure if I'd want to give up one of them and Santana in a package for Bundy.
