  1. Does anyone have confirmation that HH19 survived his ice fishing trip? Or, did some posters on this site scare him away from ever dropping his inside knowledge here again? Just getting antsy for an update on where some of our trade discussions are at right now! I think the last we heard from him late last week he thought that a trade involving Doming was imminent along with another smaller deal potentially taking place after that. Paging HH19!
  2. C'mon HH19! It's 8:45 already this morning and we still don't have an update. Where you at?
  3. Cleveland says No. Adding McKenzie was doom. He is the 1 untouchable. On top of that the impact of adding Shaw/ Santana without the departure of Kipnis/ Chisenhall/ other position pieces causes a larger player jam than the Brewers have with its OF currently. I agree with you that McKenzie is probably the deal breaker in this deal. However, this is also the Indians window here to finally bring a WS title back to Cleveland, so I wonder if the idea of adding two controllable, impact bats like Shaw/Santana would be too hard for them to pass up? Also, I had initially included us taking Kipnis back in the deal as well, but I pulled him out as I didn't think we'd be able to take on his salary AND go out and add a Moustakas. But, I wonder if us agreeing to take on Kipnis would help get a deal like this done. Again - I know this trade will never happen, but I just threw it out there for discussion purposes. Could be an opportunity for us to sell really high on Shaw and Santana, but I also don't think that the Brewers would want to pull the trigger on this deal either as I thikn it would be a big PR nightmare after all of the "buzz" around this team since the deals late last week.
  4. Or other teams have shown interest since the moves last week, causing Stearns to reconsider. Cheap, young power-hitting corner outfielders don't come up on the market very often. Having guys like J.D. Martinez and Carlos Gonzales still out there probably doesn't help. Santana is kind of a "poor man's version" of them. Small quibble, but I don't think Gonzalez holds any value. Someone will sign him, but he's probably a one year risk type of guy. I can't imagine anyone thinks he's much more than a .750 OPS guy away from Coors and can only face right handed pitching to accomplish that. Agreed. Once Martinez goes off the board, Domingo should instantly become the most attractive OF/DH prospect out there - either in F/A or a trade. And he should be the most attractive guy out there now for teams (like Cleveland) that don't have the room in their budget to give Martinez the crazy $$ that he is going to want in a F/A deal.
  5. I agree that this all feels like posturing on DS's part, and I'm completely fine with that. The last thing we need is for teams to think that we HAVE to trade Domingo right now. Make them think that we have options to get him plenty of PT, and hopefully that will drive up the trade value. The last thing I want to see is us settling on a trade package that doesn't equal his value.
  6. Not that I'm advocating for this trade, but I'm curious as to what other's think about this trade idea - and which team would say "no" to it: Indians get: Travis Shaw Domingo Santana Brewers get: Francisco Mejia Tristan McKenzie Danny Salazar or Mike Clevinger Why I think this could work for the Indians: They have SP depth right now, and the addition of Shaw/Santana would instantly give them the most potent offense in the AL (in my opinion). They could move Ramirez to 2B to take over for Kipnis, Shaw slots into 3B and Santana slots into RF and gives them a big RH bat. Both Santana and Shaw are controllable for many years at a cheap price. Why I think this could work for the Brewers: We replenish our farm system at two positions of need for the organization with the additions of Mejia and McKenzie. Salazar or Clevinger (whichever the Indians are more apt to trade at this point) immediately steps into our rotation and probably slots somewhere in one of our top 3 spots. We could then turn around and sign Moustakas to a deal (since we were linked to him weeks ago - just like Cain) to fill the 3B spot. I know this deal will never happen, but it's at least interesting to think about. Would the Brewers have to take on the Kipnis contract for the Indians to even consider this? Or, is this just a trade that neither side would be interested in doing. I could see where this could become a PR nightmare for the Brewers, as some fans would simply look at the fact that we'd be trading away our two best hitters from last year, which would be puzzling to many after we just went "all in" with the Cain/Yelich additions. Again - I know this has 0% chance of happening, but curious to get thoughts on the idea at least.
  7. Absolutely no way I'd trade Domingo and Shaw for Salazar and Mejia. It's bad enough that we are considering trading away one of our most consistent hitters, but no way I'm interested in trading away our two most consistent bats from 2017. I realize there's a risk that one or both drop off considerably next year, but it would take a much larger package than Mejia and Salazar for me to do that deal. Now, if they were to throw in McKenzie into the deal, then I'd at least give it some thought. McKenzie, Mejia and Salazar. We'd immediately replenish our farm system with that move, and then you could turn around and sign Moustakas to man 3B. But, if we are trading away two guys who hit 30+ bombs and .860 OPS, you better be giving us a major, major haul back in return.
  8. I apologize if this has already been discussed in this thread, but what teams (besides Cleveland) still have a need for a RH hitting OF or DH? Also, besides Domingo - what remaining guys (either free agents or potential trade targets) even profile similarly (or better) than Domingo? Without doing a ton of research on this, it would seem to me that we probably have the best available guy that fits the profile out on the market right now. So, if a team is needing OF/DH help from a power RH bat - don't they almost have to come calling the Brewers right now?
  9. I mean, who schedules an ice fishing trip when the hot stove starts to heat up? C'mon HH19.....priorities!
  10. Anyone know when HH19 is getting back from his ice fishing trip? Man, I'm in serious need of some inside info on when we might expect another deal!
  11. Let me start off by saying that I truly appreciate HH19 and your inside information. This has at least made this week very interesting, after a very boring off season thus far. However, whomever is feeding you these %'s, might want to learn to be a little more conservative in their projections for the likelihood of these deals happening. I think we had 80% on the rumor that came out Sunday night, and then it got ramped up to 95% for the Yelich trade. I realize that both may still happen, but at this point it looks like you'd have to characterize both of these deals in a current holding pattern and probably more around 50% (and maybe 33% on Yelich if there are two other teams in a bidding war right now).
  12. I like the idea of Yelich as much as anyone, but my God - please NO on this package in return. Really hoping that we aren't sending both Brinson and Burnes to the Fish in this deal. I'm OK with Brinson going, and I'd be fine if we threw in Ortiz and Dubon. But, losing B&B together in this deal would do more than just sting.
  13. Certainly seems like this was probably either centered around Ellsbury (as was rumored on Sun night) with the Yankees or around Kipnis with the Indians. Those would be the two possibilities that would make the most sense. In the Yankees scenario though, I'm wondering who we would be sending their way? Was that ever floated out there this week?
  14. My sources say it's not Cleveland. Does this work? I apologize in advance, but since I don't know who has good sources (outside of HH19 of course) and who doesn't - can I ask how reliable your sources are? Do you really know that Cleveland isn't the team, or are you just being facetious?
  15. I'm sure I'll be wrong, but it just feels like this is a deal with the Indians - as the two sides appear to match up really well with each other with their needs for a RH bat and our needs for a starting pitcher. The though of losing Santana from this offense really does scare me though, so I hope we'd have some other plans in place (if he is in this deal) to try to replace some of his production in the middle of our lineup. We just don't know what we have in Brinson quite yet.
  16. That was a fake Rosenthal account. I'm ashamed. I'm going to bed. Yeah, I think this is my cue to go to bed. Nothing is going to happen at this stage on a Sunday night, outside of fake twitter accounts having us all losing our minds!
  17. I know the Braves were brought up in the Moustakas/Shaw thread earlier in the week, so it got me thinking about them more and I'm trying to figure out where they view themselves in their rebuild process? With their new stadium now a year old, it would seem as if they are going to want to put a winning team on the field fairly soon here. As we know, they have a glut of good looking pitching prospects in their system, but not a ton in the way of positional players (outside of Acuna of course). So - is there a scenario at all where the Brewers/Braves could make a deal this off season? Would the Braves have any interest in Santana or perhaps one of our other OF prospects? I know you rarely ever see teams do deals that involve prospects for prospects, so my guess is that it probably wouldn't work in this scenario either. I'm assuming that they'll bring Acuna up at some point this season (maybe early on if he tears it up in ST), and I'm guessing he'll slot into LF for them? Markakis is slotted for RF, but he only has one more year left on his deal. So, is it conceivable that they might have some interest in Domingo? Brewers get: Soroka and Wentz Braves get: Santana and Grisham Now, the Braves probably would have more interest in going after someone like Yelich or one of the F/A OF's (and thus, holding onto their prospects) if they were really serious about getting a big OF bat in their lineup - so the likelihood probably isn't real great that they'd have a ton of interest in Santana. But if they did - would this type of package work out for both sides - or is this too one-sided?
  18. OK - since there isn't much else to talk about with the Brewers off season, let's fire up more discussion on what a bigger trade package could look like with the DBacks. Let's say that they really are looking to part ways with Corbin and his 7.5M this year (again - have no idea why they would). Brewers get Corbin (agree to pay all 7.5M), Jon Duplantier and Drew Ellis Dbacks get Domingo Santana Would you consider this deal if you were Stearns? Is there any way the Dbacks would do a deal like this, or would they consider that too much to give up for a guy like Domingo? Corbin is just a back of the rotation rental guy, so I guess I'm not assigning a ton of value to him in this deal, but I'm guessing the Dbacks wouldn't view it that way. Again - this is just for fun, as I doubt the likelihood is real high that a deal like this would happen. However, the Dbacks could be a good trading partner if they continue to have a big hole in their OF as we get closer to spring training.
  19. OK - I see that now. You are right. If that's the case - why would the Dbacks be looking to get rid of this guy's salary? Doesn't seem that crazy of a number, and you only have him for one more year. And, I doubt any team is going to give you much for him in a trade if he's just a one year rental - and a mediocre one at that.
  20. Unless if I'm seeing it wrong, it appears that Corbin has 2 years left at 15 mil. So, 7.5 million a year. The problem is - he really hasn't been that good the past two seasons. If we knew we were getting the '13 and '15 Patrick Corbin, then I'd probably be more interested. But, not sure if I'd be willing to give up a couple of our prospects for the '16 and '17 version.
  21. Looks like a media guy in Baltimore, but I'm kind of wondering if he just took the rumors from yesterday and tweeted them out himself to make it look like he had some inside sources. That's just my hunch, as I still have a hard time believing that we'll end up with either Arrieta or Moustakas.
  22. I can't imagine Allard/Soroka moving for pretty much anyone. Both guys have had frontline starter written all over them for every moment of their careers, and they aren't far off from making an impact at the MLB level. That's not to say we can't get a good pitching prospect. That team is so stacked with SP, that even getting the 3rd or 4th best pitching prospect would be fantastic for Shaw. Yeah, I would agree that Allard is not happening in any kind of a trade - so that's why I threw in Soroka as an either/or option as I thought the chances might at least be a little greater getting them to deal him? Like you said though, they might have both of those guys off limits? And if they didn't want to part with two pitching prospects for Shaw, maybe they'd consider a Soroka/Riley type package? That still might be doubtful.
  23. While I doubt this happens, I'm at least a bit intrigued by what a Shaw to Atlanta deal might look like. Let's say we do sign Moose to man 3B for the next four years, and then Atlanta offers up either Allard/Soroka and Wentz for Shaw - that would be hard to take a pass on. Now, maybe there is no way that ATL would ever offer up that package for Shaw, but I think that's what it would take for me to trade him if I were DS. Or, is it possible that we sign Moose to play 3B, then move Shaw over the 1B - and then we find a trade partner for Thames? I'm not sure if Thames has much value out there on the market right now, but I guess this could be another option, right? I know Shaw played 1B before, so that could be a possibility. But, this option would probably then force us to find trading partners with both Thames and Aguilar as there would be less of a reason to now have a platoon at 1B if you had Shaw there. Again - I doubt anything happens with Moustakas and the Brewers, but the Shaw to Atlanta idea would certainly be intriguing if the Braves were willing to part with some of their good, young pitching.
  24. Probably not enough. Mejia was a top 30 or top 40 prospect going into last year and he had a nice year. I'd guess he's a top 15 or top 20 prospect this year. So, maybe Brinson or Burnes or a combo like Ortiz and _____. Salazar is almost fair straight up for Santana, maybe a slight edge to Santana given an extra year of control and Salazar having some issues last year, but then again, pitching is always valued a bit more. So now you're taking a somewhat fair swap and adding one of the best prospect in baseball in return for a grab bag of a decent prospect or guy like Broxton. I figured that it probably wasn't enough once I threw in Mejia. I know he's highly thought of, but I was hoping that with the Tribe having Yan Gomes signed up for awhile still that they might be more willing to part with Mejia - especially knowing that they'd have Santana locked up cheap for awhile along with another OF prospect with potential. If they don't need two OF's, how about a Santana/Ortiz/Herrera package for Salazar/Mejia? I know Ortiz's value might be dropping just a bit, but I think he's still seen as a high upside type arm (with some weight concerns), and Herrera is more of a lottery ticket arm. Or, we could swap in someone like Ponce or Pennington if Herrera isn't what they are looking for. I just think it would be great to get a franchise catcher like Mejia in this deal, but I also understand if the Tribe feels like they could get much more for him if dealt on his own.
  25. OK - let me take a shot here: Brewers get: Salazar and Mejia Indians get: Santana and one of Broxton/Phillips/Ray (whichever they find most desirable) Then, the Brewers go out and sign Lorenzo Cain. We then have a SP in Salazar who still has big time potential and can slide right into our rotation this year, our catcher of the present and future in Mejia and Cain can come in and play CF and allow Brinson to start in RF this year. Is this not enough for the Tribe to part ways with both Salazar and Mejia? Santana for Salazar straight up does not interest me from the Brewers standpoint, but there's obviously no way that the Tribe would throw Mejia into the deal without then getting something more in return from us. So, what would it take to get both Salazar and Mejia?
