  1. I don't remember anyone advocating betting the farm for a big splash. This system is deep and talented. Probably deeper than it's ever been, actually. People worried about "gutting the farm" by making trades to improve the MLB club are looking at it pretty myopically in my opinion. It's no different than the Ted Thompson mindset of hoarding draft picks and avoiding outside moves. We simply CANNOT keep everybody we have and we are going to probably lose some next year via rule 5. It is not possible. I don't know what is difficult to comprehend about it for some. Like you I haven't seen any "gut the farm" posts either.
  2. A plague to the board? Don't deserve a team? Really? I know David Stearns has reached Ted Thompson god-like status around here but aren't you going every bit as far as the folks you claim to be nuts? On the whole I think Stearns has done a very good job here, but it's time to make a move for some pitching. The staff was sketchy before the most recent injury, and it's been sketchy for some time. Anderson was a career sketchy to decent arm who experienced a crazy year in 2017, Chacin was a career sketchy to decent arm, Miley is a career sketchy arm, Davies is a career sketchy arm, etc. If the bullpen at all falters or regresses in the second half this team will run downhill in a hurry. It's time to reward the guys with an innings eater and lighten the load. I'm fine with it being a R/R guy like Bundy or Syndergaard, but it's time to lay the chips down so long as the guy fits in the window of the Cain/Yelich/Chacin etc contracts and the guys like Hader who are also controllable within this window we've entered. If you want to talk plagues, head on over to a Yankees or Red Sox board and hammer them for freaking out over their #8 and #9 hitters.
  3. Bad news for Suter, good news for those that want pitching acquired. Our hand is essentially forced if we want to compete this year IMO...you can't depend on the likes of the Wilkersons of the world when youre thin already with Miley types starting.
  4. Hiura is being severely overvalued by a portion of this fan base in general.
  5. If theres a long term solution at 2B acquired as well like a Schoop type, then yes. I'm not sold on Hiura playing passing defense or staying healthy yet.
  6. A good fellow named Ted Thompson used to kick tires on everyone available.
  7. They better hurry up because the season is slipping away just like it did last year. I'm not a Wild card kinda guy....I'm a beat the Cubs kinda guy.
  8. It just always seems like the Brewers would rather go with the Wade Mileys and Brent Suters of the world over our top pitching prospects. Just look at how they've treated Brandon Woodruff. I'll never understand it. What exactly has Brandon Woodruff done to make you think he should be starting? He's been quite the disappointment compared to some of these other pitchers coming up in my eyes.
  9. I think Realmuto should be off the table unless we open the pocketbook immediately on trade and are able to lock him up for about 4 years (total). That would get us to the age where we should let him walk, as well as the back end of Yelich and Cain's contracts. I don't see a point to trading such a package for a guy that will be here for only half of our window. For that reason (extension and prospect value) I think we should be passing on it unless their demands come down. And no, I am far from a prospect hugger.
  10. Toronto had luxury tax implications.
  11. Post deleted by mod due to condescending tone./i]
  12. I am far from a prospect hugger on this site, but you realize the trade deadline isn't for 2 weeks yet right? I'd prefer we not shoot for the wild card game or a 1st round sweep and let the right deal fall into our laps like Yelich did.
  13. If only someone was 3/4 of what they were. CF Cain LF Yelich SS Machado 1B Aguilar RF Braun 3B Shaw C Ramos 2B Saladino
  14. CC did the right thing. I felt he managed the game well. This one is on the BP. They choked. It happens. Overthinking. Williams was just fine, Josh bell isn't a worldbeater David Ortiz type of hitter.
  15. I don't know if the Bucks would have had the same amount of patience or not in bringing him back that Philly did, so it may not end up the same way. Regardless as of right now they didn't waste a 2nd pick, there was no other good options to take for them or anybody else for that matter. Only guy that is worth anything IIRC is Smart, and anyone that thinks he was a top 4-5 pick please send me some of whatever you're on.
  16. A few bad days and might as well fold up the team and send it to Montreal. Jesus.
  17. I have to believe Burnes and one of Peralta/Woodruff are off the table for a position player rental. The one they like least would go in a trade somewhere....this management's MO has been "controllable talent acquisition." It seems highly contradictory to then trade away your top 2-3 pitching prospects for rental hitters. Heyman also said awhile back there is "NO WAY" they are sending Burnes, Broxton, Arcia. I could see Woodruff/Peralta, Broxton, Arcia though or mix Phillips in for one of those guys.
  18. Geez, some of you need to stop being such snowflakes. First a full blown religious rant and now calling people snowflakes. Not sure what is falling faster: the Brewers or the forum tonight. Tends to happen when folks beat a topic to death and then begin rehashing it 100 times within a week or two.
  19. Let's not fool ourselves here folks...the Bucks were a SIGNIFICANTLY worse basketball team anytime Jabari Parker was on the court the past several years (that he actually suited up for). Yeah its rotten but S happens. Embiid ended up (?) panning out in a big way, but he was a HUUUUUUGE risk. Wiggins has been equally if not more disappointing than Parker has. Nobody else was remotely worthy of a 2nd overall pick in that draft at the time....it has ended up a very underachieving class.
  20. What a pathetic excuse of 4 days of baseball...they mailed it in and booked tee times early methinks.
  21. I know it's summer league...but Christian Wood sure does alot of things and stuff. Call me even more intrigued.
  22. Innings limit on Peralta down the stretch might factor into this a bit? He's not much value to us (this year) if he can't pitch much when we need it most. No, that wouldn't make me trade him at all...but maybe it's a MINOR factor to DS. He's also not a very big guy and small pitchers typically don't age well for the long haul.
  23. The fact that the Milwaukee Brewers have been prominent (and perhaps leading for a time) bidders on premium players like Darvish and Machado under DS should be exciting enough for us. One of these times it's going to happen. It already happened January 26 when Lorenzo Cain signed his deal. He was and is every bit the star Machado and Darvish are. Touche.
  24. Papi "being mediocre" in Minnesota was a product of Minnesota being a terrible organization at baseball who ruins prospect after prospect (and then ships them out). Hit it to the opposite field for singles David. Not really that hard to understand.
