  1. Gallo struck out 50% of the time last season and still managed a .301 OBP. If he cuts that to even 30% of the time he's going to be more than adequate. He's already Mark Reynolds except he has 10 years to figure it out and be better than him. Of course Miguel Sano is a better player/target at this moment, dude's going to be a perennial all-star. Give me a good reason why the Twins would trade him when they're coming out of a 5 or 6 year celler dweller and have nothing but blue skies ahead. I live in Twins territory....he ain't getting traded. Neither is Buxton.
  2. Gallo scares the hell out of me. No thanks. Count me in on this one! No doubt he has extreme power and will hit 40-50 HRs but that K rate is insane. He is still young so sure, he could improve his plate discipline but I get the feeling he's thinking about nothing besides hitting a homer every time he steps to the plate. He's just another Mark Reynolds as far as I'm concerned. Not like that is so bad but I'd rather have someone else be the centerpiece of a trade for luc. If we weren't sooooooooooo deep at OF I would agree. The dearth of talent at 1B/3B is a serious issue going forward unless it is addressed. OF - Braun, Davis are entrenched for some time barring a trade or serious injury. Broxton, Liriano, Domingo Santana, Phillips, Clark, Tyrone Taylor, Coulter, Harrison, Reed, Roache. Phillips and Clark are what I would consider "great" prospects for us, Phillips will NEED a spot in the OF, and Clark probably will down the road too. Santana could well be starting soon, and we have Broxton & Liriano battling it out for CF out of the gate. Where the hell are all these guys going to play? Sure i'd take Brinson, hes a great prospect, but for crying out loud we have enough OF already. Not all of them will pan out, but there are several that will need a shot within 1-2 years at playing time. There are zero (0) 3B in our top 30 prospects, and one 1B at the bottom of the list (Denson). This is the rare case where I would deal for a position of need and take a shot. Throw Peralta in there if it means getting another pretty good prospect, hell throw somebody else in too. 40HR 3rd basemen don't come around often, if he flames out so what? We traded a 30 year old Catcher for him who is on the verge of become Joe Mauer with his issues. He ain't 25 anymore folks, other than 2014 he's been a good catcher, not a great one.
  3. Gallo is at the position of need for us. I'd take him as part of a deal and hope he figures it out.
  4. Funny you should say that! Sanders is talking about returning to the NBA. I doubt it will be with the Bucks, but I would welcome him back if his mind is right. If the money doesn't matter much to him, maybe he gives the Bucks the 1st chance to sign him after what he pulled. The Bucks should be open about it. Just pay vets minimum with incentives, they're already paying him $1.8MM a year for the next few years. Not much to lose, if he's the old Larry just cut him. To me, that's how they need to build this team around Giannis. Defenders like Henson and Larry, and shooters on offense. Keep that bum out of here. I was all for Larry Sanders for a long time, but you shouldn't get a second chance for what he pulled. My guess is the money is going to run dry and he sees the writing on the wall. Last I checked weed wasn't legalized, so he's screwed.
  5. Good. We want to lose games anyway. The whole "horrible defense" thing is being way overblown on this forum anyway, we aren't looking to win World Series games this year anyway so it ultimately won't make much of a difference in my opinion.
  6. Overall this is turning into a fairly disappointing season, but they just don't seem deep enough as a team to hang with the good ones. Rashad Vaughn's playing time is slowly ramping up though, nice to see him progressing. Might be a good time to grab his autographs before he blows up. Lol
  7. We will have to agree to disagree, but that is a seriously bad infield likely the worst in the game. The OF you put together I like, but Stearns does not. It features Davis who is likely to be traded, Santana who wont be in CF. We have discussed Braun to death, but I would not be surprised to see him moved. Luc surely will be traded. The Brewers were carried by Davis' incomprehensible 20 HRs in Aug and Sep and were still under 500 during that time frame. No, this team will not be contending for anything positive. Hill is a younger Ramirez. Net neutral. Net positive if he regains somewhat close to his previous form Villar will be no worse, and likely better than Segura. Net positive 2nd base will be a good platoon. Net positive 1st base is a downgrade from Lind to Carter, but more power. In between Net downgrade and Net Neutral One of Liriano and Santana will be adequate at CF. Net downgrade from Gomez, Net upgrade from anybody else Peralta and Nelson have another offseason. Net positive Garza cannot possibly be any worse than last year, and likely will revert back towards true form a bit. Positive A good amount of the changes made this offseason actually are not downgrades per se, I think this team will be a bit better than you think. Playoffs? Hell no. .500? Most likely not. 75ish games? Perhaps
  8. this team isnt that awful as it sits now, if we had a legit ace we'd be talking 500 or maybe even wild card. segura - addition by subtraction hill - addition, be it at 3rd base or platooning with gennett is a big + walsh - addition...anything is better than elian herrera middlebrooks - again anything is better than herrera carter - id argue addition over some bum like maldonado playing 1st lind - this one hurts theres going to be a ton of growing pains for some (rymar liriano/santana/villar) but if they progress i could see 75ish wins. if nelson and peralta become some semblance of a 1/2 starter and garza reverts to what he really has been we may push 80. if davis, braun, or lucroy get traded though i reserve the right to revise my statements.
  9. They should hire the Bucks designers and redo the whole works, enough of this scammy Milwaukee or the 1980s baloney. Start something fresh and new just like the Bucks did for the new kids that will be coming up.
  10. Fortunately I get all the Corey Provus all I want over here in Minneapolis! :-)
  11. Say it ain't so...he seems like a good guy but he won't be missed on my end one bit.
  12. Let's just ban wins and hand out ties only too while we're at it. Teenagers these days have the mental toughness of a rock.
  13. I am ashamed to call myself a Wisconsinite. This is a disgrace, people need to be fired. http://www.si.com/extra-mustard/2016/01/11/wisconsin-high-school-basketball-air-ball-scoreboard-chants-banned
  14. It's hard to call the Badger NCAA Mens team floundering...they're extremely young. I find it very encouraging that they are losing to a some good teams in close games. They beat Syracuse on the road, lost close ones to #14 Purdue, #3 Maryland, played a good 2nd half against #2 Oklahoma on the road. Lost to Purdue, Maryland, Indiana, Milwaukee (a likely tourney team), Marquette (a likely tourney team) at the end, and a bad loss or two. Give these kids a year or so and we'll be right back in it. Hell we may still make the tourney this year if they get hot.
  15. If you are never going to invest in the market price for a prime FA occasionally, even after you've brought your payroll down to bare bones, then you can do all the rebuilding you want but you are never going to win just with young players and middling overpaid FA like the kind the Brewers have invested in. By 2018 who are the Brewers paying besides Braun who himself could be gone? They'll likely have dealt Peralta by that time and Nelson won't quite have peaked his arby money. They don't appear to have interest in extending Lucroy. Davis is reportedly being shopped if you believe Morosi. Garza will be off the books. The base payroll figures to be no higher than $60 million or so, less if Braun goes. They can't afford one $24 million player per year in that scenario? #1 Moustakas is not worth 24 million. Or do you think hes the second coming of Alex Rodriguez? And no, we should not be purging our payroll to then go out and sign a 25 mil a year player. There's been enough whining and complaining about Ryan Brauns somewhat reasonable tag on these forums already. Ideally our 24 mil a year guy will come from within, as Braun, Fielder, Weeks, Sheets etc did.
  16. This is the stuff people will be calling you out about. It's okay to have different opinions but really? They are going to flat out release a 24 year old switch hitting utility player who can actually somewhat hit? In other words, anybody Stearns signed will be gone by July 1. He just forgot to type Chris Carter in there.
  17. I'd set up a trade that included Oswaldo Arcia personally.
  18. Calling Elian Herrera who can't even stay on a MLB roster "pretty good" is quite the stretch. I don't know about anyone else but I want TALENT in this organization right now. At this stage I don't care if they bat left handed, right handed, between their legs, or behind their back....if they are somewhat young, cheap, can hit HR, draw walks, or show any semblance of a .300+ OBP, lets bring them on board. Not signing Chris Carter just because he's right handed would be like the Packers passing up on Michael Vick in the draft just because he was left handed, or the Bucks passing on Giannis Antetokounmpo just because he was a foreign born player. It's irrelevant to the discussion for this particular team. Edit: I removed a portion of your post. Please avoid condescension.
  19. if anybody thinks this is a bad move, they're smoking something and i would like some of it. there is zip zero nodda downside to this deal, jason rogers cant shake a stick at this guy's power. oh...but rogers is a safer prospect? yeah, we really need that better average and on base percentage in a lost season. look who carter has played for (oakland, houston, and now stearns)...what is the common denominator? they all look for under the radar guys with upside. at 29 carter's time is running out to become somebody, but worst case .200 / .300 / mid .700s ops with 30 bombs and 3 years of arby for 2 million bucks is peanuts. somebody has to man 1st base, and somebody needs to help the team score runs. 6 scooter gennetts isn't going to get it done.
  20. If we're going to trade him let's do it now. Blow it all up at once and get some kids in here to start playing together rather than trickle guys out during the season like Davis, Lucroy, etc. The risks outweigh the benefits IMO.
  21. Spare us the free agent threads 3 years down the road...the thought of 100+ losses is depressing enough, let alone posting about people we will never be able to afford.
  22. Are we allowed to rate this on a 15 out of 10 on a scale of 1-10?
  23. Plumlee got after it last night IMO, I really like the guy as a backup. We should try and get him more playing time. As for Henson, I didn't watch him really close but he got beaten badly down the court 2-3 times (that I picked out) by a Warrior big. For a guy as athletic as he is that shouldn't be happening..... Middleton shooting 2-10 from deep doesn't help the cause though.
  24. Great game tonight by the guys tonight, but dead legs and mental errors lost them that game. The worst (even though the game was over) was watching MCW sleep on the three point line while Curry zooms in for that offensive rebound on a FT. Just awful. There's no excuse for this team to be under .500 in my opinion.
