    News out that JKidd has received a 3 year, 18 mil extension. I like Kidd and the direction we're headed, but anyone want to clue me in on what he did to earn that after this year's underperformance? Not looking to fire the guy or anything, but if I underperform at my job I sure don't get a raise? lol

    If you sit and root for losses and a terrible record you are either 1) a Twins fan, or 2) need to lighten up. It is indeed OK to rebuild at the same time as compete. Hate to burst somebody's bubble but I would bet Lucroy ain't going anywhere whether he plays at an allstar level or poorly.

    Just because we've played a bunch of garbage teams that are worse than us and have beaten them doesn't mean we should be buying or standing pat. This is still a bad team that's nowhere close to contention. -40 run differential, 10-20 against teams over .500. There should be no change in our philosophy from last summer until now. Everybody is available for the right price, no "buying" to improve the team now. They're about 22-18 or so since the beginning of May. Every team has to play the same turds we do, I don't view it that way. Nor do I believe we should go all out on buying assets by mortgaging the future. I was merely saying we have a significant area of strength in the OF for the minors / ML squads. I would be for acquiring a mid level pitcher on a short deal if it meant eating salary so we could get another prospect for an OF like Taylor or Reed, not looking for CC Sabathia type trades. EX - the first one that came to my head was Ricky Nolasco with the Twins. I do NOT like the guy and prefer we don't go there, but someone with a similar deal to his. Trade an OF to eat his contract and maybe get another decent prospect with him. His deal is like 12 mil a year and will expire about the time we're looking to compete.

    I wouldn't sell Smith at this point...at 30-33 and a few games out of the wild cards we've seen a decent sample size now. As another poster said we are full of OF'ers. If we keep this trajectory we might even be able to conceivably buy a little bit at the deadline rather than sell. The patient approach at the plate is paying dividends and looks like its going to stick, and the pitching staff is slowly coming around to being "competent." That's a good combination in my book. No, i'm not screaming playoffs but we're not really in a sell situation right now.

    Does 4 games out of the wild card and being a competent pitching staff away from being decent justify holding him down? I know how the system operates, but it just plain irritates me when teams (like the TWINS) deliberately hold guys down to prevent the clock from starting. Play the kid if he's ready to go.

    If Garza can come back and revert to the mean of his really consistent career, I like the odds of us playing .500 ball for awhile. Our bullpen is seriously legit, and the new approach we have at the plate will continue to keep us in games/score runs. Sure it's unrealistic, but we're only 4 or 4.5 out of both wild card slots...this season is by no means over yet. Much more than I expected at this point!

    Braun should be in, not sure about the others...but I'd much rather see this team close the gap on that 4.5 game deficit from the wild card slots than see a couple more of ours in the all star game. It's not that ridiculous either with all the reinforcements coming off the DL's here...Garza (if competent) and Smith will be a huge boost.

    Wily is really costing us games. But I bet it will be Anderson, they won't have the guts to demote Peralta...they'll just hang on and hope he somehow figures it out (he won't).

    What has it ruined? Did you not watch the title game this year? There have been some GREAT, even historic games recently, and the Badgers have even been part of a couple. I do agree it may have ruined the college education or joe schmo recognizing the Tyler Hansbroughs of the world, but the quality of the games being put out has been awesome.

    Maybe we should skip the Lucroy trade ideas and move onto Maldonado trade (cut) ideas. Man is that dude worthless to us, we need a backup bad. "But he catches Peralta well" as Peralta gives up another 6. At least he's batting 0.087.

    I like Hill at 2nd base at the moment. I'd move Villar permanently to SS and bench/trade Scooter personally, the valuation of Jonathon Villar long term is way ahead of Scooter Gennetts. Walsh and Rivera should be on permanent bench duty unless there are injuries. 1B - Carter 2B - Hill SS - Villar 3B - Perez That's what i'd like to see. This team knows how to score runs, it the pitching can just become somewhat competent or league average we may hang around the .500 mark / wild card picture into August. When it's time for Arcia to come up then the worst player of Hill/Villar/Perez can get benched. I'm not all for playoff pushes or anything but it's defintely not time to throw in the towel on the season yet.

    Cancel the season and give all the trophies and awards to Bartolo Colon for his first dinger at the young age of 42. Smoked it too, wasn't one of those squeakers.

    Good long relief man, but he can't even get through 5 innings...our bullpen will get run into the ground between he, chase, and peralta.

    The reason you keep Carter unless a "can't pass up" offer comes along is because we have NOTHING at 1st base, or in the minors.

    Anderson is hideoussssssss. Davies really isn't that far behind. This staff may set records for being historically bad.

    Dare I say lock him up for a few years if it continues? So long as it isn't 10-15 million per or something astronomical. Ain't like we have solutions at 1B anyway.

    First thought you seem to be acting like we are proposing the Brewers to dump Braun just to save the money. That isn't even remotely close so try to read more closely. Second thought via the bolded part. Do you not realize Braun has been injured frequently, with pretty serious injuries at that, for years now? I don't know I would call it likely for him to hit .280 years from now. 1) There absolutely are people on here who want to dump Braun solely to save money. I know you aren't suggesting it, but the intrinsic value Braun possesses is much higher to us than it will be any other team. If he were about 29 then it might be a different story. 2) This is just an eyeball test, but from the way he is hitting he's 100% healthy for the first time in years. The past few years since the PEDs were more of a slog along and he struggled for everything he got. This year he's crushing souls. I do see the general idea that he should be traded...i'm not blind. I just don't think it's realistic in his career at this point. Maybe when he's 36-37 he will be unloaded for peanuts, but I think its more likely he finishes his career here.
