There's a ton of legit GMs in here. Just ask them what they think of a player and if they don't like their WAR then that player is useless and the GM sucks. These guys don't even need eyeballs because WAR says it all The funniest part is it wasn't long ago people on this forum wanted to TRADE for Middlebrooks. Now its a year later and bringing him in for FREE isn't a good idea. What changed in a year? His swing still has holes, and he'd be a project. He's younger than another guy the forum GM's love (Jason Rogers), except he has over 200 more MLB games experience under his belt. There's zero downside to the move. Who's he blocking...another AAAA player? Hernan Perez? Elian Herrera? Jonathan Villar who belongs at SS? This is a 90+ loss team for goodness sake, there isn't anybody blocking anybody except Braun and Lucroy !!

I understand them fully. The money is completely fictitious to them...the players are merely names. With no actual responsibility or feet being held to the fire you can type until your heart is content that losing 100+ games a year is acceptable. Who's going to fire them for suggesting it? The funny part is merely a few hundred miles to the west the Twins have had 4-5 years of absolute terrible baseball, and despite an unexpected good showing last year the fanbase did not come out in droves. As a matter of fact, they had LESS FANS ATTEND GAMES even though they contended for a playoff spot than they did in 2014. They have had LESS FANS ATTEND GAMES every single year since their 2010 playoff sweep to the Yankees, which is about 33% less (3.1 million vs 2.2 million). Did I mention their stadium is brand new and one of the best in the league? Oh right, that didn't seem to help draw the fans in either. Apathy is the absolute worst thing a fanbase can have happen to it, and what the folks that sit behind their keyboards and make imaginary minor league trades, draft picks, and fire everybody on roster that isnt 22 years old don't understand is that the Brewers do not have a strong devoted base of fans to draw from. If the team loses 90 games for 4-5 years there will be no Brewer fans at the games, and they may not come back. Sure there will be a few diehards, but it would take another several years of winning just to bring the old fans back, let alone create new ones. You can do a rebuild, but it cannot last too long. This needs to be done in 1-2 years or they will have serious issues on their hands paying the bills. MA can't just pull money out of his bee-hind despite what some seem to believe.

Pedro Alvarez is the guy. Cue more hate and venom though for buying low on a talented player for the short/medium term even though we're losing 90+ next year. Those 28 year olds who have never seen MLB pitching until last year are just so. darn. tempting.

So part of a lost season equates Jason Rogers as a "all he does is have clutch hits" type of player? Don't forget the guy is going on 28 years old and has just now sniffed a MLB stadium. I'm all for giving him some time, but lets not get carried away. Alvarez would be a good buy low candidate that we can flip later for prospects. Who knows, maybe a change of scenery & coaching is what he needs to fulfill the potential he had.

Feels like what the Twins do...sign strike throwing low velocity pitchers. That works out well for them.

Anybody think that Zunino being mentioned could be a slight indication that Lucroy's chance of being dealt went up? Or completely non-coincidental and just boosting the system.

Joyce career (very consistent until a down year last year) :: .242avg / .335obp / .426slg / .761ops ; 10WAR over 8 seasons, about 1.2 a year. Smith career :: .263avg / .344obp / .452slg / .796ops ; 11.2WAR over 9 seasons, about 1.24 a year. Sweeney career :: .276avg / .333obp / .380slg / .713ops ; 6.5WAR over 9 seasons. KHRIS DAVIS 2 full years in the majors :: .250avg / .315obp / .494 slg / .809 ops ; 2.9WAR ; 1.45 a year. They aren't all that different...Davis just hits more HR and for a less average. Not that it's a bad thing...I just don't think he's that much different than run of the mill OFs that can be had on the cheap every year.

30% chance of being straight up better, 40% to push or slightly lose on a 27 year old OF who is likely close to peak value, and 30% chance of a donation. I count maybe 50/50 rather than 30/70 of coming out ahead in the scenario of straight up KD/Bundy. Like I said before, structure a deal so you get more back.

Serviceable corner OF'ers are a dime a dozen. See - Seth Smith, Ryan Sweeney, Matt Joyce, etc etc etc. Other than contract friendly, you folks are overrating Khris Davis. I like the guy and am happy if he remains a Brewer, but the risk on Bundy is worth a neutral LF'er. Just build the deal around more than a straight up Davis for Bundy trade. IE - maybe try to get Schoop too (Segura/Lind?) Then you have your pretty good RH bat at 2nd to go with Scooter as LH.

Gallo is about as close as we're going to get to a cornerstone 3B-man with massive upside...i'd do the deal 10 times out of 10 and see if we can bring the strikeouts down a little bit.

Was going to say Austin Jackson until I realized he's gone...their roster and farm really is not appealing at all. Only guys I like are Taijuan Walker and maybe Paxton, but im sure the former is well off the table. Find something better please Stearns.

If you're going to make superlative statements like this, they should at least come somewhat close to being true. And if you did some research you'd know that Redmond perpetually pulled Fernandez early in 2013 until the training wheels came off and they started letting him run 100 pitches...then it was 7IP nearly every start. If you'd like to go further he was going 7 to 8 innings in 2014 until his elbow blew up in May.

Fernandez doesn't get them even CLOSE to being competitive. They won 68 games last year. Fernandez doesn't make a 68 win team a 90 win team. This line of thinking of trading 18+ years of cost controlled talent for 2-3 years of one guy is what gets teams like the Brewers where they are now. There's years where doing this sort of thing is viable. This is not that year. Every single time a healthy Jose Fernandez hits the mound its 7+ innings of shutdown baseball. The Brewers were at their best when we had an ace (Zack Greinke) who you could count on for 7+ innings of shutdown baseball. Fernandez wouldn't get us to 90 wins initially, but the amount of stress he would take off the rest of the staff & the bullpen would be invaluable and raise the overall quality of pitching. Who is to say its 2-3 years? This is a new organization, and we have a ton of cap room. Why can't we sign him long term? This is the perfect time to buy low right here and try to sign him to a SEMI outrageous sum instead of Scherzer money with the tommy john out of the way. That kind of thinking would help continue mediocrity in Milwaukee...you can't just flip your stars forever.

I'd absolutely buy low on Puig if he's actually available...I don't think Braun would be the fit, but perhaps a deal centered around Lucroy / Puig and pieces on one or both sides is more realistic. I'm personally not going to start speculating on names of minor leaguers for the trade though as it's pretty much throwing crap against the wall and seeing what sticks. A base deal of Lucroy for Puig sounds good to me, if they could get Austin Barnes in the deal even better. Puig is in a massive media market and it may just be too much for him...bringing him to a smaller town situation with a better environment could do him wonders.

No, probably not. But Ramon Flores was ranked what, >20 in his own organization? I don't like the return, especially at a position as easy to fill as OF/1B. Hopefully Stearns views Flores as being wildly undervalued and he proves me wrong. First base is easy to fill? How many years did we play guys like 40 year old Lyle Overbays, Sean Haltons, Juan Franciscos there after Fielder left?

Stearns is buying low on more upside. EX is Villar who seemed to be a poor clubhouse presence, but if he puts it all together will be a servicable player in our lineup in a year or two.

If he's 29 and has never gotten a good shot at the majors, doesn't that say something about his upside? These kinds of players we need to stay away from if we're rebuilding...just like Jason Rogers (better look out, the pitchforks will be after me!), Shane Peterson, etc.

Can we sing God Bless America without being compensated for it? Pretty disgusting in my opinion...regardless if its $1 or $10 million. It's only $80,000, but there are most likely THOUSANDS of small things like this that we don't even know about where money is being pissed down drains. It all adds up quickly when you put it together.
