I would be curious to know what the Brewers offered for Miller. Interesting to see that they were a "finalist". Apparently we were pursuing a different deal where we were shipping a LHP (Gorzelanny?) out as well...why else would we look at another LHP in the pen?

I think some of you are vastly underrating what went on here today, and you had your sights set on blockbuster deals. We solved 4 things with this trade. 1) Nullified baby Crush's suspect defense in the clutch 2) Got ourselves a reliable LH bat who happens to be a defensive ace 3) Bolstered the bench significantly, we will no longer have to see nearly as many Logan Schafer or Elian Herrera making clutch PH at bats. 4) Injury depth and versatility at all OF positions Are we seriously in here debating Mitch freaking Haniger? Give me a break. If you want to live in the land of hope go be a Twins fan, they have so many "can't miss prospects" you can't even count them all. See how that works out. Sure Price or Lester would have been awesome, or Morneausy, but it didn't happen. DM got a controllable asset beyond this year for a fair price who is really going to help us down the stretch. We're set at OF for this year as well as the next, and maybe beyond that even.

Exactly and this is why the Brewers should not be entertaining any ideas of trading Nelson for another pitcher. The issues with this team are an overworked bullpen, as evidenced by Will Smith's recent struggles, and offensive consistency, as evidenced by the three game losing streak. Starting pitching has not been an issue for the Crew this season and dealing 6 years of Nelson for 2 months of Lester would be stupid. The bullpen is overworked because we possess a bunch of "middle of the road" starting pitchers, who other than on occasion don't go deep into a game. We need a guy that can go 8 innings most every start so the pen doesn't NEED to be worked.

Rosenthal saying his "sources" say we aren't in on Lester makes me more intrigued...all these rumblings of us being in on everybody is all BS. If we're going to make a deal it's going to be when the press doesn't think we're in on a guy.

We are sickly vs RHP...need a power LHB more than anything else right now.

There's nothing I hate more as far as descriptions of players go than to classify a starting pitcher as an "innings eater." What that phrase truly means is the guy doesn't have what it takes to be a great pitcher, hes "just a guy" you can throw out there and eat some innings and hope he doesn't get you shellacked. If Nelson is an innings eater, trade him. IMO

I don't really think we could make a play on Lester (or should pay very much), but what does everyone think he could fetch for the Sox? Pretty smart of them to dangle him while the Price rumors fly...would he be cheaper than Price since he openly said he'd go back to Boston after the season if they'd have him back?

Don't really want either but i'd rather trade for Doubront whose value is low and would give us a lefty starter.

Actually, I really like that idea. Plouffe will never be a world beater, but he has pop in his bat. Pull him out of Target field and surround him with a few quality MLB hitters and we could see an increase in his numbers. He really has nobody around him besides a .100 Willingham and occasionally Mauer or Arcia when they aren't hurt. -

Might be able to get Mayberry thrown in on a Papelbon deal...the Phils have Ruf waiting in the wings and I'd think are tired out of waiting for Mayberry to turn the corner. Versatile high upside (1B / OF ) for cheap play if they can solve his RHP woes.

Oh really...making the playoffs is not good enough now? Do you not realize we've made the playoffs 4...count em, FOUR, times in the past 50 years? And it's been 3 years since we saw October baseball? I suggest you begin to appreciate how much fun the Brewers have supplied us with the first 1/2 of the year and cheer it on for all it's worth in the 2nd half. We have been THE BEST TEAM IN BASEBALL for a good portion of the year thus far. Let that sink in for a moment.

Wait....Derek Jeter is retiring? - Gomez needs to continue what he did in the 1st half...otherwise we may need to acquire a cleanup bat. - Need to add bench depth, whether that means by acquiring 1B and moving Reynolds/Overbay to full time bench or getting ourselves a couple pieces for bench bats. -
I really want Grandal as well, that also means either he or Lucroy are going to have to play 1B full time. Grandal has played it, and is a switch hitter...let's go for it.
