Alec Bettinger Really liking the growth of the system and I think many rookie complex/dsl names will continue to emerge and move up the ranks by end of the year.
  2. If they didn't want to be so blatant with Cleveland Rocks, there is so much in the rock and roll genre that would have worked. Cleveland Amp Cleveland Rollers (all the people who wanted cleveland steamers could have maybe been pleased here.) Cleveland Beat Cleveland Fusion (like fusion rock) Cleveland Air (everyone plays air guitars instead of chop like the braves) Yes I know some are horrible, but you get the point.
  3. Here is a lot more from Perfect Game on Smith from a scouting report on him after they got an in-person look: Lanky lefthander Russell Smith got the start for the Horned Frogs in the first game of the second day of the event and was superb during his time on the bump. The southpaw went a little over five innings with six strikeouts and only allowed one run, a home run in his final inning of work. He finished with just the one run allowed and a ton of weak contact as he filled the zone up and was in command from the first pitch of the game. Smith is a massive lefthander, listed at 6-foot-9 and 235-pounds, and he has excellent physicality and repeats his mechanics very well for someone his size. There is some funk and deception to the delivery with exaggerated side steps, rhythm, and dipping of shoulders but it's all synced up remarkably well. He strides well with his lower half and the arm stroke comes through relatively compact and from a three-quarters slot. The lefthander filled it up from the first pitch of the game as the first inning was a nice microcosm of what was to come. He threw about ten pitches and got two weak ground ball outs on changeup followed by a three-pitch strikeout to end the frame. The fastball sat 90-93 mph and he held his velocity well throughout. There's plus angle on the fastball given the extreme crossfire lower half landing that Smith employs and it allowed for some poor swings by lefthanded hitters. Both the changeup and the slider were solid pitches for Smith who went to the slider often. The changeup shows good sinking life and arm side fade, though he did have the tendency to drop slot at times on the pitch, and was a neutralizing agent against righthanded hitters. The slider played to hitters of either handedness and got a good amount of chases running away from lefties. There's a strong arsenal as well as a track record of success and the strikes to give him a good shot at starting at the next level. There are a lot of options for the Horned Frogs on an experienced pitching staff and Smith turned in an excellent performance. He should undoubtedly be a key cog in the rotation for the foreseeable future and gives the Horned Frogs another talented veteran to rely upon as the season gets underway. This writeup as well as the frelick write up have me thinking the philosophy of the organization is going to be to get ahead of the electronic zone. Guys at the plate who can take a walk and impact the ball in the zone. Pitchers who throw a ton of strikes and don't have to rely on iffy calls on the border by umps.
  4. Willy Adames may take over for Yelich as the franchise cornerstone. I was putzing around this morning. Here's Willy's past 599 AB's (roughly a full season) in games outside of the trop. This is starting in 2019. 599AB's, 42 2bs, 2 3b, 33HR, 6SB, .295AVG, .365OBP, .905OPS
  5. Should this move to the optimism thread, because this would be glorious!
  6. I really hope Hedbert starts in Appleton just to be able to go see him. Seeing him in the "AA" lineup is impressive.
  7. Was the only one to roll with Hedbert as #1 last spring, so have to keep that up. I legit think he will be a top 20 spec in all of baseball by this time next spring. I'll also predict by this time next spring, the brewers will have 5 top 100 specs. Hedbert, Turang, Mitchell, Kelly and one of Quero or Zamora. #1 - Hedbert Perez #2 - Brice Turang #3 - Garrett Mitchell #4 - Antoine Kelly #5 - Mario Feliciano #6 - Aaron Ashby #7 - Freddy Zamora #8 - Ethan Small #9 - Jeferson Quero #10 - Eduardo Garcia #11 - Jackson Chourio #12 - Carlos Rodriguez #13 - Jesus Parra #14 - Zavier Warren #15 - Hayden Cantrelle #16 - David Hamilton #17 - Abner Uribe #18 - Jheremy Vargas #19 - Dylan File #20 - Alec Bettinger #21 - Luis Medina #22 - Nick Kahle #23 - Tristen Lutz #24 - Micah Bello #25 - Clayton Andrew #26 - Alexis Ramirez #27 - Alexander Perez #28 - Joey Wiemer #29 - Edinson Mejia #30 - Max Lazar HM - Gabe Holt
  8. It may be a fantasy focused prospect ranking, but still interesting nonetheless, Hedbert comes in at #31 (in the MLB) on the updated Rotowire dynasty prospects. In the fantasy baseball realm, Hedbert is a very expensive commodity already.
  9. Could be wrong, but I feel like BA tends to be pretty aggressive with ranking newly drafted/signed players. For me at least, its hard to put guys like Zamora, Warren & Quero - who have never had a professional game - ahead of Lutz, who already has posted 110 & 120 wRC+ marks in full seasons at A & A+ while being about 2.5 years younger than average at each level & whose carrying tool (power) is probably the loudest & most important of the four players. If Tristen didn't sign out of HS & went to a four year school, he would've been draft eligible in 2020 & going into his first year of pro ball just like Freddy & Zavier. Instead he has two years of pro success under his belt & will probably open the year in AA vs complex ball/A for the other three. Many of BA's other teams have largely stayed static this year compared to last year outside of graduations and new draftees. It seems as the Brewers has had some of the greatest movement outside of those conditions. My takeaway and I want to say it was mentioned in the chat or somewhere, but they got a lot of insight from the organization both data and scouting from the Brewers alternative site vs. other teams. I'm also happy that it seems for the first time in a while they didn't have Tom H. involved with the brewers rollout of the top 10.
  10. Turang, Mitchell, Perez, Kelly, Small, Zamora, Feliciano, Ashby, Warren, Quero. Badler mentioned Eduardo Garcia just missed the top ten. Badler also said there is a tier drop off after Kelly at #4. Mentioned that Kelly versus Hedbert for the #3 spot is debatable. Wow, they're much higher on Perez than I thought. Considering that he's already #3 in the system at age 17, the sky seems to be the limit for this kid. I'm feeling pretty good about being the only one to put Hedbert at #1 in the BF poll last spring.
  11. Baseball America has their Brewers Top 10 up. Seems like they're starting to turn the corner into seeing the brewers minors as making progress up the ranks. Some of there stuff on the individual top 10 are pretty glowing. Pretty impressive even that a guy like Eduardo Garcia didn't stay in top 10. Also missing from previous years top 10 are Corey Ray, Tristen Lutz and Zack Brown.
  12. Given today's option declines, particularly Gyrko's, I think you see Hader traded for some young controllable corner IF (here's hoping for Kiriloff) and then we go bargain shopping for arms this offseason.
  13. This is one of the reasons I think we need to take the universal view of our farm system as hot garbage (thanks Brett Anderson) with a grain of salt. I understand Burnes and Woodruff had some prospect notoriety but I think both have surpassed expectations of in terms of where their true upside resides.
  14. Has anyone heard how the youngins' like Hedbert and Garcia are doing in Appleton?
  15. Even though the brewers have had a historically bad offense and regression to the norm should occur, they are only 1 game out of the playoffs! Plus it's September so hopefully a return of the "September Streakers!"
  16. From what I can tell Francisco Morales is not on their 60-man roster, can anyone else confirm? That'd be an amazing return.
  17. Naylor, Quantrill and Gabriel Arias to the Indians for sure, and likely more. Arias is a stud SS prospect, Quantrill has been very good out of the pen, and Josh Naylor is a 23-year-old former stud prospect. Deal also includes LHP Joey Cantillo, who is another stud pitching prospect. Indians also get Owen Miller and Austin Hedges. WOW! Wow, that's a huge package of talent, but lacks the high caliber types. I like each spec and think they're all potentially starting caliber MLB players. Very interesting deal. I agree with others who mentioned I think this leaves Hader potentially in play especially the fact Quantrill is gone.
  18. Maybe this is enough pressure applied to the Dodgers where they finally pony up lux for Hader?
  19. Sign me up for any deal that includes Abrams. He was a guy I pegged coming into the season would be a top 5 prospect in all of baseball by year end. Dude is a stud. Abrams and Patino or Campusano and I am sold.
  20. Does anyone else get Loretta vibes from Warren and Hart vibes from Wiemer?
  21. I wonder what COVID-19 will do for impacts on J2 and June Amateur draft... even if delayed or not... it seems like most ability to evaluate for an entire season of games is out the window.
  22. 1. Hedbert Perez 2. Brice Turang 3. Tristan Lutz 4. Eduardo Garcia 5. Aaron Ashby 6. Drew Rasmussen 7. Antoine Kelly 8. Ethan Small 9. Mario Feliciano 10. Jesus Parra 11. Trey Supak 12. Carlos Rodriguez 13. Payton Henry 14. Luis Medina 15. Devin Williams 16. Zack Brown 17. Corey Ray 18. Dylan File 19. Nick Bennett 20. Thomas Dillard 21. Micah Bello 22. Jacob Nottingham 23. Lucas Erceg 24. Max Lazar 25. Justin Jarvis 26. Bobby Wahl 27. Joe Gray 28. Jeferson Quero 29. Pablo Abreu 30. Lun Zhao I'll be that "guy" with my #1 spec.
  23. Just sharing that Hedbert Perez ranked VERY high on the BA top 100 intl signings from last year. I've been waiting for this ranking as i suspected based on fall writings he was a blow-up guy since July 2... Just thought I'd share. Probably the most excited I've been about one of J2 specs in the stearns era. I also think Jesus Parra will begin to fly up the ranks next year.
  24. Maybe Tyler O'Neil and something?
  25. 1. Trent Grisham 2. Brice Turang 3. Tristan Lutz 4. Ethan Small 5. Antoine Kelly 6. Aaron Ashby 7. Drew Rasmussen 8. Mario Feliciano 9. Max Lazar 10. Eduardo Garcia 11. Carlos Rodriguez 12. Trey Supak 13. Jesus Parra 14. Devin Williams 15. Micah Bello 16. Je’Von Ward 17. Corey Ray 18. Luis Medina 19. Zack Brown 20. Eduarqui Fernandez 21. Thomas Dillard 22. Joe Gray 23. Pablo Abreu 24. Bowden Francis 25. Drew Matulovich 26. Payton Henry 27. David Hamilton 28. Justin Jarvis 29. Dylan File 30. Clayton Andrews 31. Felix Valerio 32. Jacob Nottingham 33. Caden Lemons 34. Alec Bettinger 35. Lucas Erceg
