  1. What in the world is up with RA Dickey? Just played hooky yesterday to see the Nats' game. They didn't hit even one ball hard in fair territory. Total domination. Harper looked particularly bad. Dickey is 9-1 with a WHIP of 1.04. Wow.
  2. Not sure anyone has noticed but the Brewers are dead last (tied with Pittsburgh) in Pythagorean numbers. Only the Twins are worse in MLB.
  3. Weatherman, They are contemplating Ishikawa and Conrad at first. I don't think they can make it with that. Hart at first still leaves them lacking something I think. Trade away more prospects for an aging 1B? No thanks. I'm just asking that we discuss the idea which doesn't seem far fetched to me. At the least, with the Red Sox and Yankees both down a closer, they should be shopping K-Rod big time.
  4. Youkilis? Red Sox and Yankees both need a closer. Valentine seems very down on Youk. Red Sox have a golden boy coming up to replace him. K-Rod plus a prospect? Would that be enough?
  5. If the Brewers get swept by the Giants, a very real possibility given the pitchers the Giants are throwing out there, they will be 6 games below .500. Is it too early to think about selling? The playoffs are really going to start looking very remote. Weeks, Hart, K-Rod, Greinke and Marcum all could potentially fetch something in return.
  6. Let me point out: McGehee .279/.340/.372/.713 Against LH: .333/.444/.467/.911 McGehee/Green > Ramirez ???? for far less money. Obviously small sample alert but McGehee was probably due for a bounce back, particularly if platooned.
  7. Understandable that Schafer and Green are off to slow starts. Each probably hoped to make the Brewers out of spring training and it must have been a big let down. They need to refocus and I'm sure it will happen soon.
  8. Kalle8, As a cancer survivor myself who has also lost a brother to cancer, I know how difficult it is to be the one watching on the sidelines. Infinitely worse than when it happens to you. I follow European football a little bit and I couldn't have told you before where Sampdoria was but now I will be a Sampdoria follower too. Thank you for sharing this.
  9. http://www.wtop.com/?nid=41&sid=2785358 When you're in DC, try the StrasBurger. Not if you're on a serious diet though.
  10. http://www.journaltimes.com/sports/brewers-sign-jason-jaramillo/article_56b53ed4-7a01-11e1-aa2f-0019bb2963f4.html Apparently, he was recommended by Marcus Hanel, the Brewers' bullpen catcher, who is also from Racine.
  11. I work in DC. It's beastly hot and humid in the summer. I have been to Boston and really enjoyed it. If you like history, it would be good.
  12. WV tournament has an interesting twist. Each sectional is paired with another sectional. 2nd place team plays first place team from the opposing sectional and vice versa. My area, the Eastern Panhandle, had two teams, Hedgesville and Martinsburg get in to the final eight despite Hedgesville having been beaten 4 times this year by Martinsburg. They will meet in the state final if both win their next two games.
  13. I know Patrick already picked his books but "The Long Season" by Jim Brosnan is very good. Follows one year with the Cincinnati Reds. I think it's available at Amazon. It's based on the 1959 season? This is less irreverent than Ball Four.
  14. Now let's tell the Cubs players that their samples will be stored in someone's basement for more than two days and ask them if they would be willing to waive their right of appeal if something is found. I'm sure they'd be happy to do it. By the way, the Washington Post is reporting that Williams had the Redskins going for bounties when he was defensive coordinator there. Joe Gibbs claims he doesn't know anything about it.
  15. Crew07-- Let's assume that Braun is innocent. What exactly do you expect him to do to prove his innocence? He doesn't control the sample or the test-all he can do is guess and provide reasonable doubt. Short of someone confessing to adulterating the sample, he will never prove to your or the press' satisfaction that he is innocent because it's essentially impossible to do that. My beef with this whole process is that it became unnecessarily combative. MLB seems to have gone into legalistic mode immediately upon Braun contesting the results. I know MLB and MLBPA are in this death match mentality but real lives and the reputation of baseball as a whole are at stake. I'm really disappointed in the MLB reaction to this whole episode.
  16. This was discussed in the Power 50 discussion thread below. They will update at some point but are too busy now.
  17. http://www.baltimoresun.c...-20120206,0,149881.story Jeremie Guthrie to Rockies for Hummel and Lindstrom.
  18. I'm going to pick Yadiel Rivera for MIP.
  19. Baseball was big in Milwaukee in the Braves era. When they left, many fans were upset enough to turn against baseball at least to a degree. That generation of fans is now old or getting close so it's less of a factor. Younger fans don't remember the pain of losing a team so they take maybe a less jaded view of baseball.
  20. Just for comparison let's look at Morgan in the minors vs. Logan Schafer. NM: .293/.370/.364/.734 LS: .301/.363/.427/.790 At A+: NM: .292/.357/.356/.713 LS: .306/.366/.428/.795 AA NM: .306/.359/.393/.751 LS: .292/.370/.382/.752 At AAA, Schafer destroys Morgan but that's a small sample so I'll ignore it. The point is that Logan Schafer compares favorably to Nyjer Morgan at each level, particularly the higher levels, is younger and has more power. One of the places I thought they could replace some of Prince's power was by this substitution. I don't expect it to happen though. Melvin is too wedded to the idea that you must have veterans. I'm afraid at some point it will really come back to bite this team.
  21. 2010: .241/.294/.452 This is likely what the Brewers will get for the next three years. He was younger then.
  22. Thanks for all your work Mass, always enjoyed it. Best of luck in whatever you do.
  23. For new cars, TruCar.com is a great resource. They list all cars of a given make, model and trim level sold in your own area and give you an idea of how much you might spend. They also have a beta used car version called Clearbook.trucar.com. If you know what type of car you are interested in, you might try this.
