  1. This is a great trade for Cleveland. This is exactly the kind of move I want the Brewers to make.
  2. Well, Flores (at 3b or 2b) is likely to be better than Segura. He's just a better hitter. And it's not out of the realm of possibility that a 23 year old player who raked as a too-young-for-his-level minor leaguer could improve is it? He's oozing potential offensively and if he can handle short at all, he should be able to handle 3b adequately Those are guys you take for lesser players than Gomez. Gomez was the guy that was going to help bring the Brewers back a package that would bring us back to elite status. The reality is Flores profiles a whole lot closer to Yuni than Miggy. He would almost certainly become this boards (and correctly so) most frustrating player to watch. Yes, he is 23, and yes he was a top 100 prospect. Yes, he will play in the majors. So ends the positives though. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/f/florewi01.shtml I get the Wheeler love and I was happy to have him, though he isn't a sure thing due to TJ, rolling control clock, and his walks. Flores was picked because he fills a hole at 3B at the major league level, and those are trades that you make if you want to be mediocre.
  3. So, I guess the only question now is do we have an injured player in Gomez? He is OPSing 784 in July and isnt missing games? As an aside, I noticed he has 14 walks in 91 PAs. Not to go there, but I will, Flores has 13 walks in 361 PAs. Unless he has a degenerative injury, it would seem the best action would be to shut him down, pile up the good medical reports and put him back on the market?
  4. What a mess. Hated to see the Moss deal, likely blocking Lind there. Maybe Kaminsky is flip candidate as part of a deal for Gomez? Just a quick thought. It's interesting seeing Nightengale being so defiant it was Wheeler, not Gomez that killed the deal. Well, this makes the next two days really interesting. Get the champagne or pitchforks ready guys.
  5. Gomez will be traded once Boras does his thing. We won't ride him to FA. There will be no shortage of offers for 640 guys who have no position and injured pitchers, I assure you. In NBA terms this would have been what happens had Herb Kohl and the idiot that run the Sixers had a baby.
  6. A year a half of Gomez leading us to under .500 ball and a hit or miss pick is better than a pitcher that would automatically be or best pitcher and a hitter who is 23 and was a top 80 prospect most of his time in the minors. That makes no sense. The draft pick wod be lucky to turn into flores. When you trade your number one available asset and your major league roster wasn't improved in 2016 and your top 10 prospect list hasn't changed, you didn't make a good trade.
  7. If that was the best deal, then I'll take the year and a half and the draft pick. That was a really bad deal for Milwaukee.
  8. There's a 6 week old quote out there where Gomez is complaining about his hammy and his hip. Looks more like frustrating day to day stuff rather than deal breaker though.
  9. I'm getting dizzy reading all the tweets from so many different angles. The quotes from both sides are compelling. Maybe Gomez's hip really is an issue and that was the reason Doug jumped at such a poor return? We will know more about the hip if Gomez is traded by Friday.
  10. Exactly. This was a Herb Kohl move. Don't really rebuild, bring in guys to fill roles but not really get better. Flores has a lot of holes in his swing and Wheeler is a year away from being a solid 3/4 guy with perhaps 2 upside. Not enough for Gomez, who was our key piece in bringing back the next big thing to Milwaukee. A dime for two nickels.
  11. There is a slew of these posts in a row, I'll just quote yours. One team doesn't care about the short term of the return. The other team does, and has offers probably of several similar (presumably more healthy) players instead of Gomez. Not saying that Gomez is officially the deal-breaking medical player, but the Brewers were openly admitting that they don't care about the TJ (assuming everything checks out) by a agreeing verbally to the trade. I guess anything is possible. Seems that anyone who has ever seen Gomez play knows he is a walking bruise and always will be. Are they suggesting a degenerative issue? I'm not buying it. Sounds like the Mets try to save face. That deal wasn't just leaked, it was out there everywhere.
  12. So we are to believe the Mets backed out of a trade due to injury when the main piece they were trading is a year out and coming off major TJ surgery? Oh that's rich. They are just mad because they just lost Gomez AND their number one trade asset that wouldnt affect them in 2016. Nice try Mets.
  13. Who is more likely to have a major medical issue? The guy who played today or the guy who had TJ surgery in March 2015 and isn't expected back optimistically until July 2016? The jilted bride act isn't very becoming, Sandy.
  14. But if it was GOMEZ' medicals and not Wheeler's that killed the trade, you end up getting absolutely nothing for Gomez for the foreseeable future. That's sour grapes by the Mets.
  15. When you are in July 2015 and you hear Wheeler will be ready by July 2016, that almost always translates to spring 2017. We are not Drs but we have all seen it before. And the service clock keeps ticking. That's not a guy you take as a key piece for Gomez
  16. Makes complete sense. Wheeler is VERY damaged goods and you can't make a guy like that a centerpiece. But how did such a deal get leaked so badly?
  17. The Cueto trade went through eventually after falling through. Looks to me like the a Brewers got cold feet on Wheeler? How long could they have had the medical reports?
  18. I would find it difficult to imagine there isn't a better offer out there. Is Doug so cold blooded as to call off a hand shake deal when he saw a better text message after he agreed but didn't file the paperwork?
  19. Both Flores and Wheelers are virtually guaranteed to win MVP/Cy Young awards at some point now. Especially since I hated the trade. It's a guarantee now.
  20. Poor Flores. Showing him cry in HD for nothing. In fairness, my tears were worse, though I wasn't on TV.
