  1. So should they go out and pick up a starter? They will be 3 out.
  2. That's the reality. Pitchers these days aren't athletic enough to do anything but pitch. The players union would love the DH as it adds a high dollar player and saves wear and tear on the pitchers.
  3. Absolutely crazy. We must have the DH. Times have changed and pitchers aren't what they used to be. I saw on Twitter that Drysdale and Koufax combined for 47 complete games in one season. Next man up. This season has already been miraculous, why not one more of a guy pulled up from the minors going 4-0 down the stretch?
  4. Yup. This is the real problem; the hitting prospects we picked up in all those trades are duds so far. The scary part isn't Thames cooling off, we all knew he wasn't very good to be being with. Shaw has exceeded all possible projections. He is a good player but he isn't Mike Schmitt like he was in the first half. He had a bad 2nd half last year. He looks like a bowling pin so I'm wondering maybe it's a conditioning issue? As for the minors, Diaz and Ray were supposed to be megastars and that isn't happening. Hiura looks good so far as has Lutz.
  5. My concern isn't the major league club, it's that our hitting in the minors has been much of the same. Other than Brinson's ranking and Hiura, I'm not seeing a single hitter that I'm seeing as an upgrade over our current group. Much has been made of the prospects acquired but most are either not panning out and certainly we have no Braun/Fielder and I'm not thinking we have a Hart/Weeks either.
  6. Just painful. The fact that they are playing meaningful games in September is really great but sadly this is just making this meltdown worse.
  7. Gennett's career numbers: .283/.324/.447. He wasn't a bum as a Brewer. They fell in love with Villar based on one year. Neil Walker's career numbers: .273/.340/.437 They are essentially the same player only Scooter is 4 years younger. Walker has trouble vs. LHP too by the way (.694 career OPS vs LH). Walker's making $17 million this year. As to the argument he had zero trade value, that's on the Brewers who annointed Villar the everyday 2B. Nevertheless, the first team with a shot at claiming him off waivers did just that. The Reds were that team. No doubt at least 5 or more other teams would have put in a claim too. There's no other way to say it; this was a flat out horrendous move by Stearns. It's his job to know that Scooter > Villar. This wasn't hindsight, you and several others said this was a really bad move. People say no one could have known, yet that is literally the job description of the GM. Stearns talks about "acquiring young controllable talent" who are versatile, then cut a 27 year old utility man making less than $3M in favor of keeping a 31 year old journeyman then trading for Walker who is older and will make more than Scooter will all of 2017.
  8. Hader? Woodruff? I'd say those two were way better than anyone could have hoped for. I guess I have taken Hader off the prospect list but you are right to mention him. I am not seeing great (Fielder, Braun, Sheets) by anyone in our current system. But certainly Hader and Woodruff look like contributing parts going forward.
  9. The Brewers cut Scooter. So much facepalm. The Cubs lose twice to the Pirates and we get beat by the deep in last place Reds.
  10. This has not been the year many of us had hoped for. Our hitters really hit the skids and no one really emerged as one of our next great players. Depth yes, but I don't see a single 4-5 WAR guy right now, though I'm hopeful with Brinson.
  11. I'd like to know where the Thames/Aguilar platoon ranks as that is really what matters. Aguilar has 1.2 WAR according to Baseball Reference. I'm guessing the Brewers first base production is top 10 but I could be wrong. Is that strictly as a team at 1B and not adding their stats as PH/DH/LF? I'd say we are doing ok as a tandem without seeing the breakdown, though Thames has slowed down so much as a run producer after his white hot April that I don't think he can come into 2018 as a reliable starting 1B.
  12. I know we are not supposed to think RBIs matter - tell that to the runner stranded in scoring position - but a power hitting 1B with less than 60 RBIs in September is insane.
  13. Hitting slump = Regression to the Mean Thames and Sogard weren't really Bonds and Hornsby.
  14. I really have to wonder how a guy with a career ERA over 8 is 40 man worthy.
  15. Brewers pick up Aaron Brooks who has a career ERA of 8.38
  16. I'm glad someone else noticed this. If we are going to keep this going he really needs to drive in some runs. He just missed a GS today.
  17. Btw great challenge by CC who has been nothing short of the best manager we've had here since Bamberger.
  18. I think Jesus needs to be the starting 1B. Yeah it's obvious and you're all welcome.
  19. If the games were played on paper we would be 20 games out by now. The Brewers are hanging around just over 500 but so are the Cubs. Neither was considered likely in April. I agree the Cubs schedule is easy but they just aren't a good baseball team. Many reasons why but it's not 2016 so they are what they are, good but not the dynasty we all thought.
  20. I'm as negative as anyone about our roster but this doesn't look like the Cubs year. They have done everything they could and still they are only up by two in the loss column. Lester just went on the DL and they emptied their minors already. If the Brewers can get modestly hot, maybe get a veteran CF when Broxton gets cold and they just might win this.
  21. The umps stink for everyone. Angel Hernandez anyone? CB Buckner? No one is trying to develop a scheme to take out the Milwaukee Brewers.
