  1. ...and what is the point of getting rid of Scooter, then adding another one? Who knows. This is a move for making a move sake. The Brewer problems are defense and pitching; two areas this guy won't help. Though he did actually pitch an inning at some point.
  2. Baseball Reference had him as a -0.9 dWAR last year, so another guy who doesn't play defense.
  3. Baseball players in general seem to be the thinnest skinned people around. I do think he pitched well enough to be the last guy in the bullpen but at the end of the day, being the last guy in the bullpen on what is one of the worst pitching staffs in baseball isn't really all that interesting.
  4. Players move around the diamond all the time, sometimes in the same game. I get 2B is different than SS but sheesh it's not like the Brewers asked him to go from SS to becoming their CFO. He had a heck of a year as a lead off hitter but I doubt he will ever be an even ok fielder. They are just going to have to accept it or pray the DH comes to the NL next year.
  5. Well Suter certainly was effective but my goodness he throws nothing but junk. Listening to BA and Rock when he pitches is fun. They giggle with shock every time he gets an out. Like when a position player comes in and gets a strike out.
  6. There is very little that is interesting about their offense. It is loaded with cast-offs from other teams we hope we can strike gold on. Most of them strikeout like it is what you are suppose to do. I don't get why people like this offense at all. Is it the fact we are throwing a bunch of darts at the wall and maybe we can add another Villar to it? Going into the season it looked like an average at best offense as a ceiling. Sorry but this is absurd. This is a fascinating and very dynamic offense that just strikes out too much. It won't surprise me if it is a top 5 offense in the NL this year, it is deep, talented and multifaceted. The issue with this team is the pitching which is just awful. Put this offense with a decent rotation and it is a playoff team. The defense is even good outside of Santana and Villar. The defense is not good at all. Shaw has zero range, Arcia is not as good as advertised, both first basemen don't look natural there. Honestly the only guy who looked like a major leaguer on defense so far has been Braun.

Well I didn't say great offense, I said interesting. We do have some speed, a little power and the guys are trying to work counts. Yes working counts does mean called third strikes too. 28 strike outs is nuts but the team has scored 5 runs both games so they do have something positive from this. The defense on the other hand is a nightmare which we pretty much all knew would happen. Stearns likes position versitlity yet doesn't seem to care if the player he acquires has plus defense at one position let alone two. I think we all understood the pitching staff would be about as bad as any brewer team ever assembled, so no one is surprised they give up so many runs.
  8. This team is as advertised and as designed; interesting offense, no defense, and horrible pitching.
  9. BA just called an 84 mph pitch from Suter a fastball. Then they both laughed.
  10. It's a fine line, he has to do what the owner wants, and I doubt Mark A wants a 58 win team. So it makes sense, for example, to get a FA like Thames on the cheap. But I agree, when the choice for a 40 man spot is between a young pitcher with nasty stuff and a AAAA journeyman relief pitcher, you protect the young pitcher. No GM is perfect, but these decisions are going to be so important moving forward. Or to put it another way, imagine we traded Kirk or Hughes for a 22 year old with 98 mph and movement. I'd rather win 58 than 73 any day. That's exactly how you improve your odds of adding elite talent.
  11. Martinez was really bad yesterday. Braun and Arcia bailed him out or it would have been a lot worse.
  12. For me it's not really about Diaz. It was claiming a couple nothing, 4A, filler types that could be had at pretty much anytime for nothing over protecting anybody. And then just letting them go on waivers. It does seem like DS really cares deeply about the MLB roster when he really shouldn't. It should be about the young guys and 2019 not if we have a vet 13th man in the pen.
  13. You act as though Stearns is the only person involved in making these decisions. There are several individuals involved in these decisions (including front office, scouts, coaches, etc.), and "if" Stearns doesn't know a whole about pitching, there are certainly members of the organization that do. Diaz was hardly a sleeper. This thread shows we all knew he had this talent. I'd be shocked if Stearns didn't see the sane thing. What 70 win caliber team who is building for the future isn't protecting a 22 year old vs a barrrel of older guys who are fringe 25 man types? Looks like Stearns is trying to squeeze out as many MLB wins as he can by keeping vet bench types at the expense of future talent. That's just a bad use of assets.
  14. I actually like what Stearns is doing for the offense but I don't think he knows a whole lot about pitching. We all called the Diaz thing, this wasn't a hindsight thing.
  15. It's only one game. Though we do need to see how long Junior will be out, the Brewers can not afford to lose any pitching. This is a bad rotation as it is.
  16. I agree. Theo can get away with keeping Bryant down to save money, Stearns hasn't earned that same level of respect. The bottom line was the players thought this was an open competition when it clearly wasn't. Brewers kept Braun down until May Not Stearns.

  18. He was like the 2nd pick on waivers so he must have had some value. At $2.5 M you're getting a starting 2B who does a nice job out there and is an all around nice guy as a bonus. Villar is a better 2B for the Brewers so really no harm done to the roster.
  19. Agreed. However IF, and its a big if, Broxton plays the first half of 2017 like he did the second half of 2016 you'd have one of the most valuable trade chips in all of baseball. If Eaton could net that crazy Nats package, I can't even come up with a trade that could get Broxton with his years of control remaining.
  20. The Pacers are willing to trade away their number 1. Monroe?
  21. Those are the kind of moves that put them where they are now. Snell and Beas aren't going to get huge offers from anyone, and if they do- goodbye. You just can't invest much cap space in role players. Cap space needs to be preserved for 3 big contracts, and you better get those right. I was being somewhat sarcastic, but after the last offseason, you never know. Snell has been a good role playing shooter, and Beasley may have found his stride after playing in China and harnessing his one time 2nd pick in the draft status. So, I can really see the Bucks trying to bring them back and if they handed Plumlee $54M who knows what the will give out to anyone with a pulse? We will know with Monroe. If they keep him past the deadline, they are going for the 8th seed and will likely trying and bring in these mid vets to build around Giannis/Khris/Thon/Parker (?).
  22. The team cant even tank properly. 4 point win over the Nets. I have a bad feeling about Parker. Yes, medical has come a long way, but two serious ACL's on the same knee? That cant possibly be good. Monroe is playing his way into a 2017 First Round pick in a loaded draft. We need to snag that, ASAP if offered. On the other hand, I can see us giving Snell and Beas big extensions, and trading for Brook Lopez too, to try and land that coveted 8th seed.
  23. Brewers Record: 67-95 Playoffs: No Brewers MVP: Braun Brewers Cy Young: Davies Brewers ROY: Arcia First Player Traded: Scooter Surprise Player: Susac Disappointing Player: Thames World Series: Red Sox over Cubs for the most insufferable fan bases ever. I may not watch a single inning.
  24. A line up of GA at the hybrid point and some guys who can shoot and some guys who can play D and rebound would be frightening.
