  1. I love these names from the past. Baseball was so magical back then. But to add two off the top of my head: Joey Meyer Gorman and his 50 Home Runs 1978 Spring training when Yount contemplated playing golf so we promoted that SS we drafted out of Minn.
  2. The Brewers can afford to wait on a Braun deal. They aren't contending and have a very small payroll even with Braun. No need to dump him until the right package comes along. I am a little surprised, though not disappointed, that the Dodgee trade that was supposed to happen in August hasn't yet, but maybe the Brewers had a change of heart regarding Puig. At least I am hoping they did.
  3. A 28 year old reliever with a 0.94 wip and 12k/9 in his first year of arby and 3 more years of control are incredibly rare. None of the guys we got back are rare. Shaw is just a guy, Pennington needs polish, and Dubon is while definitely interesting, he isn't exactly in a position we as an organization need. The issue really is; is Thornburg in his prime or did he have a rare healthy flukey season?
  4. I'm not in love with this deal either based on Shaws second half and the reliever market. But, if you think Thornburgs insane season was a fluke, this is a decent deal and selling at his peak. If you rate it compared to where a 28 year old in his prime performed, then it's a quarter for three nickels. It just depends on how you project Thornburg the next three seasons, and I'm sure it's all over the place.
  5. He is one of those guys you'd trade to land a key veteran piece back. We arent in that spot obviously. Id keep him at SS all 2017 and see what we have.
  6. They made a good deal for Thornburg. While we got some decent pieces, Boston didnt give up anyone that matters to them. Sale is a different deal. They gave up their minor league system for a VERY talented pitcher who might also be insane.
  7. Now move Junior. Yeah i know he isnt Sale but the market for pitching is insane!
  8. Wow. What a trade for Chicago!!
  9. Knebel could be the next guy to get traded at the deadline if he picks up the closer role. His K numbers profile as the kind of guy that will get a nice July haul.
  10. Look at Shaw's second half last year: http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/split.cgi?id=shawtr01&year=&t=b Quantity over quality trade. Not that these are bad players, just not the red hot returns the relievers had been getting in 2016.
  11. Eager to see return. Based on the reliever market, this should be a monsterous return. Thornburg was fantastic last year.
  12. This makes a ton more sense than the straight up Braun for Puig trade we heard about. I have no idea why the Brewers would want Puig at all, but as a piece of the puzzle, not the whole picture, its gets a lot more interesting. Flip him? Meh, thats risky and I would rather just put Brinson out there and let him develop. Still, if Im the Brewers, I leverage the Dodgers situation and take back some bad contracts in exchange for some serious prospects in the package. Braun and Guerra for McCarthy, Puig (if we have to), Kazmir/Maeda/A Gone ++++++++++ depending on how much we take back in contracts. I would not throw in Thornburg. 2016 taught us that a guy like him is worth a kings ransom on his own on the trade market. He is NOT just a trade sweetener, he is headliner on his own.
  13. Yes, they traded knight, because this was the pg Kidd wanted, He was going to groom him into an elite pg just like they signed Monroe, because thats who Kidd wanted, and both were disasters who couldn't get into the rotation. Thats the issue. We agree that right now Monroe and MCW dont have a lot of value, though certainly more than Snell, who is worthless. The issue is we picked up those guys instead of the alternative, like a lottery pick, because Kidd thought they were better than they were. Then both guys go out and play exactly as advertised and we conduct a fire sale the next year. That is just a bad team doing bad things.
  14. "I am all for Giannis playing the point. And if trading MCW allows him to do that more often (which obviously it does as what else can MCW do - he doesn't shoot well) then I am all for it. The MCW experiment failed, but at that time it was unknown where Giannis was going to end up. I am really looking forward to Giannis and Parker playing the 2 largest roles on the team. Lets see if those two are the players we need them to be." I am all for putting Giannis at the point, and building around him and Parker of course. But we were going to do that anyhow, regardless of who we traded away or kept. MCW and Monroe played exactly as advertised, so we want to dump them for 25 cents on the dollar? We are still a team that has zero idea how to make trades or use FA. We are a team that should always be trading for draft picks, not guys like Snell.
  15. Thats a great point. We seem to be one of the very few rebuilding teams that almost never picks up draft picks in our trades. Instead, we trade first round picks for journeymen guys who don't matter. It really is amazing. Who in the world thinks Tony Snell is a useful player? Might as well hope for a good 20 game run from MCW then trade him for a 1 down the road. Tony Snell?
  16. I dont want any part of Puig and I have no idea why anyone here would, either. We have plenty of young, talented, cheap OF'ers that we could flip if that was the goal. I can see a Braun for Puig plus a bad contract, and no way is that a step forward for Milwaukee. I am not a fan of Braun the man or the contract but I like both more than I like Puig.
  17. All my teams are just run by stupid people from the top down. Tony Snell? Why? We could have had a lottery pick for MCW but Kidd wanted him. We sign Monroe. Both guys play like MCW and Monroe with no surprises, then we dump them for pennies on the dollar. Hopefully we can complete the Braun for Puig plus a bad contract and the year will be complete. Yeah!!!!
  18. It was a classic Herb Kohl season.
  19. Im not sure there isnt a single player in the game I would want less than McCann (followed closely by Puig).
  20. I can see Braun traded but not with Puig being a centerpiece. We have plenty of young OFers here and in the minors, and honestly I'm not so sure Villar shouldn't be our LF at some point.
  21. The two minor leaguers would have to be monsters for this trade to make much sense. Puig has very little value, especially to a rebuilding team that has invested in outfielders, and McCarthy is just added salary.
  22. What do you use for local channels? A Digital Antenna? How far are you from the towers if that is not too personal?
  23. What's Kodi? I still don't know if I can cut the cord. I mean I know I could, but I sometimes just like browsing for random shows on random channels. I also worry about the loss of some sporting events. You always have to just say you want to cancel service so you get to customer retention. That's where things get accomplished. Sometimes it takes two times getting to them to get the action done. Example, first time I called, said I wanted to cancel, they started the process and then I said I will call back once I have a hookup date for cable and then do this. Called back, gave them the date that it would be setup. Told them this is what I wanted and why, and then I'd stay, otherwise it didn't make sense, and they gave me a good deal. +1 I dont know what Kodi is either. That is what i did with Direct TV. I had to cancel some channels and Sunday Ticket to get their attention. Even with that, I had to call back several times. ATT made this process way more challenging. One other tip is the chat feature. You can calmly tell them about cord cutting options and they seem to understand to send you to the retention group which they admit has way more "promotions" they can offer than the standard CSR.
