  1. Braun and Garza will almost certainly clear. Braun has played well but teams just dont risk picking up $80M unless its someone very special, who wouldnt be put on waivers anyhow. I cant see any of our bullpen guys clearing. They have been too good, are too cheap, and the market is insane for them.
  2. Ortiz with a heck of a debut. 3 IP 1 Hit 1 BB 3 K's No runs. 47 pitches
  3. How do Santana's numbers compare to Khris Davis? Briggs and I will never get over giving up Khris Davis with 4 years of team control for what they got back, this I admit. Im speaking for Briggs, but Im comfortable in my position. Well, at least we have Ramon Flores to pick up the run production slack. Actually, Chris Carter was there to pick up the HR and run production from Davis and he's done just that. They're on pace for basically the same number of ABs and Carter will post a 218/305/792, 31 doubles, 38HR, 93rbi, 67bb, 209K while Davis will post 254/296/809, 21 doubles, 41HR, 104rbi, 26bb, 158K while being utterly useless in the field. Carter actually contributes defensively. If given the same ABs as Davis is on pace for then Santana, out of the leadoff spot, would post a 234/347/737, 35 doubles, 18HR, 57rbi, 92bb, 228K as a 23yr old while also being a massive upgrade over Davis in the OF. But hey, no potential anybody should see in that. If Davis was given same amount of ABs last year as he is on pace for this year he would have hit 39HR. Same production. There's a reason there's no market for him in the off-season even. He can't play the field so half of MLB has no use for him. He's really killing it with that 296 OBP. Nobody cares if he's 40HR when you literally bring nothing else to the table. You're not going to all of a sudden get a massive haul for him after this season. Nottingham is 21yrs in AA performing well half the season and junk the other half. Again, HE'S 21. And he was #66 on BP's Top 100 list coming in. Yeah, awful trade. Lets just call it what it is right now and not when Nottingham gets to the MLB level by end of 2018 or 2019 According to Fangraphs, Carter is a 0.6 WAR player and Flores (ultimately the guy who replaced Davis' AB's) is a -1.4 WAR player. Davis with all of his flaws is a 1.3 WAR player. No, he was not replaced, not that it terribly matters this year. The drop from Davis to Flores is 2.7, which is actually the same as having an extra Ryan Braun on the team (2.4 WAR) But back to 1B Chris Carter, he will make $2.5M this year. Davis will make $524,500 this year. That is not good asset management anyway you look at it. For the record I do like what Carter has brought to the table for $2.5M but he isn't a replacement for an OF at all. I could certainly argue that Stearns won the 1B switch from Lind to Carter plus Peralta. Back on topic, I do like that we have gone to a guy like a Brinson for our CF spot as he is legitimate 5 tool guy vs our Flores/wavier brigade guys so it does look like our OF talent is on the upswing in a big way. Im less optimistic on Clark and Ray as I don't see either as a CF, and with Brinson and Phillips ahead of them, I dont think there is chance they play CF in Milwaukee baring injury.

  5. Great defense is always worthwhile. If you have 3 guys that combine to hit 60 HRs, does it really matter if they are all CFs? Why does one have to hit 30, another 20, and the CF 10? I dont disagree at all, but our OF profile in our acquisitions under Stearns prior to Brinson (who apparently wasnt the guy Stearns wanted) wasnt for 20 HR guys.
  6. Would've been the prequel to "Lucroy to the Indians" movie - highly likely Braun would have exercised his no trade clause and refused. Good point.
  7. Sure looks fine, but really is Miller Park a venue where you sacrifice power to have athletic OF in all 3 positions? I never though MP placed a premium on gap closing OF. Not that there is not power potential in that group, but I don't see a stud power guy in that group. It makes sense in Pittsburgh and maybe St. Louis but Miller Park was built for the power game. I am glad someone else noticed this. The Milwaukee Brewers identity on offense when they were good has always been a power hitting group that scored a lot of runs. What they always lacked finding was pitching. I was kind of hoping we kept the power hitting model and beefed up our pitching scouting and development of impact pitching instead of going to stolen bases and athletic guys who while that sounds good on paper, hasnt typically been a consistently successful model since the days of Whitey Herzog. I actually do like stolen bases far more than the analytics guys, but not at the expense of power. As for CF, it is Brinson as the guy. I dont think that's even in debate because while we have other guys, no one but Phillips is a real CF and he is struggling in AA. Ray and Clark arent CF's, and arent hitting much anyhow so far, and even if they do turn it around at the plate, they certainly wont be better defenders than Brinson or Phillips.
  8. If we draft better, we wont need to tear down and rebuild like this. If you look at our drafts since Braun, its pretty bleak. Hopefully that is changing.
  9. I think it's Matuella. Stearns mentioned something about following an injury risk. I'm paraphrasing but it suggested Texas was taking in a possible medical risk until he could be cleared. C
  10. Based on what I have seen of his batting I think we are worried about nothing. He might not hit enough to merit a monster extension. Seeing his stance was a serious buzz kill.
  11. Susac was in a throw in on a trade for a reliver with a bad knee. He isn't going to be Johnny Bench. I'm just happy he seems to be a decent well rounded catcher who at worst is a very high end back up. Anything after Bickford is gravy in this deal.
  12. As hard as I've been on this Brewer team I must say they haven't had very many games like this. They have played surprisingly competitive baseball in general.
  13. I'm almost certain they will move at least one more reliever How will our relievers clear waivers? They are all so cheap and the market is insane for any reliever with a pulse.
  14. Braun and maybe Garza. Both will pass waivers most likely. Junior and the bullpen buys will never pass through waivers with their small contracts and insane demand for pitching.
  15. Remember, this is partly to get Arcia reps at SS AND to get Villar reps at 3B going into 2017.
  16. Awhile back this spring we had a straight up Braun for Bundy thread. Imagine that now......
  17. BTW, Jim Callis just ranked our system as Number 1 in the game!!! 1) Lewis Brinson: 5 Tool CF with GG potential 2) Orlando Acria: GG SS 3) Josh Hader: Not sure if he is bullpen guy or not. Needs more command. 4) Luis Ortiz: Get in shape and he is a true TOR 5) Phil Bickford: At worst he is going to be high end bullpen guy 6) Brett Phillips: Disappointed AA season, still has the tools be a great one. 7) Marcos Diplan: Made the biggest leap of the pitchers, looks to be a sure fire rotation guy 8) Isan Diaz: Too many errors at SS but could be a really high end offensive 2B in the majors. 9) Cody Ponce: Too early but he has the arm 10) Lucas Erceg: Just came out and dominated. I need to see production, not just he "should" be good. 11) Brandon Woodruff: Productive 12) Corey Ray: Yuck I hated this pick and nothing so far has changed my mind. I see him in Milwaukee, but not elite. 13) Trent Clark: Good ops, but not killing it like a first round pick should. 14) Freddy Peralta: A lottery ticket paying off in one of my most hated of Stearns "cute" trades. 15) Jorge Lopez: Talk about a fall off! Is it Colorado? 16) Gilbert Lara: Potential I guess 17) Jake Gatewood: Coming around, very talented 18) Wei-Chung Wang: Under the radar but a solid starter who should pitch in Milwaukee one day 19) Joe Perrin: solid guy who just produces 20) Monte Harrison: An athlete who should be better than he is. 21) Devin Williams: Best season yet but no where near his potential 22) Demi Orimoloye: Big raw talent 23) Nathan Kirby: We will see, but his college career says we have a good one. 24) Jacob Nottingham: I have no idea why we traded a low cost Davis, let alone for this guy. I am keeping him on the list for pity. 25) Kodi Medieros: Another reach in the draft. Maybe one day a bullpen arm I guess, not worth the 12th pick at all.
  18. Considering the alternative to Perez is Flores, I think he will be in the lineup often. Plus I just noticed he is our clean up hitter. Not in blue.
  19. This is a guy that loved the Brewers and really turned his life around. Sorry to see him go but I know he had to in this market.
  20. Smith gets the loss in his debut. He is clearly hurt. The Brewers traded him at the right time.
  21. Is that GM speak where everyone is a "very quality prospect" or is this one of their top 30? We will find out soon enough.
  22. It appears in this case the PTBNL is significant and only classified as such because they demanded JJ and we ran out of time. I expect the prospect to be a big deal though not Gallo obviously.
  23. We just lost Lucs bat and Flores is literally giving us the same production as putting a pitcher in RF. Perez goes to right hopefully ending the Flores insanity and Arcia improves the D immediately and gets some reps to hit 2017 fresh. If he plays great in 2017, we can always give him a long term deal long before 2022.
  24. Nottimgham isn't going to be a quality MLB catcher as he is setting records for PB and errors at AA, and his bat (~620 ops) doesn't warrant any consideration at 1B. It is what it is. The fact that no one brought him up during the Luc trades as the next generation but Briggs and I says it all. Going forward, Susac is the guy with Maldy backing him up. Susac is a pretty good fallback and at 26 this is his time. Obviously he wasn't going to play much in SF. As for replacing Luc, we won't. He was a very rare find. But we are getting so little production out of two of our 3 OF spots that the net effect of putting in a real RF and CF vs the fall in C production should be a significant net positive.
