  1. Is it too early to start a 2017 draft position planning thread?
  2. I still think the model is the Tulo trade. A top prospect package but we need to take back a bad contract worth about half of what we owe Braun.
  3. Dont worry. Help is on the way. They just claimed 29 year old Michael Kirkman. Wasnt he a Brewer in the past?
  4. The team even after their recent 3 game winning streak is at 11-16 (66 win pace) with a pythagorean of 10-17 (60 win pace). The team ERA is 5.58. There are two pitchers that look like legitimate building blocks in Nelson and Jeffries, though I assume Will Smith will join that group at some point. The pitching staff's development has been by all measures a disappointment and that extends to the minors for the most part. Catcher: Luc is playing great but wont be signed to an extension and likely will be traded 1B: Carter is playing great but he has a one year deal. I cant see them extending him, paying him market value in arby, and there are no 1B ready to fill in 2B: Scooter is adequate but thats about it. SS: I really like Villar on offense. I like that they are letting him steal some bases now too. 3B: Complete black hole though I would think they could move Villar here and move up Arcia LF: Braun is mashing but I think is likely to be traded. We have discussed his injury age problems projecting his future to death. CF: Total black hole. Phillips ready in 2017??? RF: Big fan of Santana but lets face it, he is not producing. I have no idea how that equates to contender anytime before 2018 at the absolute earliest.
  5. I don't see the point in trading Peralta unless there is a team that basically admits as much that they see potential in him and are willing to give up another "damaged goods" or reasonable prospect for him. Peralta's value is at an all-time low right now so why does he even need to be a throw-in? He's not making any sort of salary that the Brewers cannot handle. Keep letting him stink it up and try to find the changeup or whatever pitch is necessary to get lefties (or anyone) out. If his salary or roster spot is still a nuisance going into next year and you feel like there is no chance to make him into a productive player, just DFA/non-tender him. Agreed. There is no point in trading Peralta right now. Trading at a young players low point is really bad business.
  6. That's because to most of the MLB, the Brewers organization is a farm club for those other more "exciting" large markets. They could careless what the Brewers get in return. We should have just been happy that we were lucky enough to of drafted him in the first place. That about sums up that article. I take it as a plus that his value is getting tempting to pick up a sweet prospect package though.
  7. Exactly. Melvin was hardly a bad GM. He was given orders to keep the team a float, compete and draw as close to 3M people as possible. Stearns was given the latitude to tank, Melvin wasnt.
  8. This is why a Braun trade needs to happen. The key prospects have for the most part badly underwhelmed. Hader is going to be a 2/3 so I feel good about him. Phillips and Arcia look to be good starters but they arent like Prince/Braun level at their respective positions. Guys like Nottingham and Kodi look overmatched at their levels.
  9. The offense brought it the last two games!!! That is fun to watch.
  10. We all get Acia/Phillips/Hader. Those guys are our next wave of elite to near elite talent where service time matters. We can have this discussion parsing the definition of not trying to win games but somehow that also means they arent trying to lose games all day long but it still feels like you know the answer to 2 plus 2 but don't want to say 4 out loud.
  11. You were spot on until you added in that last statement. It has nothing to do with trying to not win games. All to do with that first part. Yeah. No. If you are putting in maginal players and leaving your betters down you are not trying to win games.
  12. This year is only about fringe guys at the MLB level. No one that they value will be brought up this year for fear of using service time and getting more wins.
  13. Flores does not profile well at all. No power no speed mediocre fielder. His one strength is the ability to take a walk which is fine except when you have no power, MLB pitchers won't walk you. He has no value to a major league team.
  14. I just talk about how bad Flores is and he just drives in two runs.
  15. This team is not going to lose 106 games...or even close to that unless we trade Lucroy/Braun and trot out the worst offense in history. We have pitchers with 7+ERAs and that isn't going to last. We are not well over 100 losses bad. The team has an ERA of 5.60 and a team batting average of 225. They are on pace for 100 losses and that's with Luc and a healthy Braun. 106 losses is a special kind of horrible, and even I'm not going there but don't count these guys out just yet.
  16. Probably. I had them pegged at 62-100 prior to the season, but I also assumed our rotation would be decent and Luc would be gone. By playing guys that aren't going to be meaningful parts of the future other than Nelson, Santana, and maybe Jeffries, the MLB team is tanking, not rebuilding. The plan is working.
  17. Flores is a never was and we have a better option in Reed. Walsh at best clearly isn't ready to play, and more likely just isn't very good.
  18. Look at the batting averages on our 6-8. Walsh Hill Flores. Playing those three is NOT rebuilding.
  19. Anderson sure doesn't like seeing the sixth inning.
  20. IF Carter keeps this up (not betting on it) and a contending team needs a bat in July, he could bring back a Davies type of arm on the high end or at a Barrios on the low end.
  21. If they can parlay Lucroy into a quality starting pitcher, add an even more mature Hader to the mix, get a rebound from one of Peralta, Garza, or Jungmann, have another arm emerge from the system, and not turn up their noses to the once good starter who's now out there being ignored in FA and is cheap and healthy as a buy low candidate (like a Latos or Chacin were this year), then anything's still possible. I agree that its not hopeless for the rotation in 2017. Id hope at least one of Peralta, Jungmann, or Davies will turn it around and join Nelson. Hader looks to have the stuff to get to the next level once he figures out he doesn't have to strike out every batter. The Luc trade could bring back a possible key starting pitcher. Anderson is a higher end 5th starter/low end 4th starter, which isnt all bad. But, the one area of the team that even I thought would feature legitimate building blocks would be the rotation. So far, this is disappointing.
