  1. I agree, he was a pretty meh player but maybe because he was local he was mentioned in the same breath as those guys.
  2. I agree, he is at best pretty ordinary. I assume its because he is what we have left from Grienke.
  3. Well, it is 1989... +1. I really only started following the Brewers in 1986. I thought he was great for a couple years, but we hung on to him way too long. Knowing what I know now, I'm not sure he was even that great those couple years. And I has a similar encounter with him at one of the very few games I got to attend. That is funny. What did he do to make you feel that way about him? Im always fascinated when we get to see the "real" guy, like when those pics of Lawrie came to light. We focus so much on the metrics that we forget these are sometimes VERY flawed people. Anyhow, I was at a game when Gantner was playing. My friend for whatever reason HATED him and was yelling at him to start the game. Turns out his sister was right behind us and not surprisingly was not very nice to my friend. He had it coming but that was a fun time.
  4. Good team win. Carter being clutch and the pitching other than Cappy was solid.
  5. I will also point out the Brewers did face two Aces, although one with the flu. Samardzija is not an ace.
  6. This team is all about the minors and the drafts in 16, 17, and 18. The Cubs front office thinks only about the 16 WS, Our front office thinks about the first pick in the 17 draft. Thats the reality of a team in the rebuild process. You guys are looking at the Cards, Cubs, and Pirates, Im concerned about Atl, Cinn, and Phil. I myself don't see bad baseball because I knew the expectations were low and Im only looking at the growth of specific players and the next wave down on the farm when it starts and the drafts the next few years. If you honestly thought this team was going to be better than last year, then you are going through a recalibration process to the new reality.
  7. That said, Samardzija absolutely stinks so this is a much better match up for the Brewers. Our line up simply isnt a match up for guys like Cueto and even a sick Bumgarner.
  8. There is a plan, it's just going to be very very painful at the MLB level for a few years. Call it a tank, call it rebuild, it doesnt matter, the result will be the same. This team will be horrible and we will be drafting very high and building up some very big names in the minors that *hopefully* will be the next Yount and Molitor. See: Cubs, Chicago and Astros, Houston
  9. Players dominating minor leaguers will have their development stunted if they aren't brought to the big leagues for the final stages of development. Artificially holding them back because they don't quite fit a time table is shortsighted. Anthony Rizzo and Jose Altuve were developing into stars with awful teams. I don't disagree, but that isn't what this team is about, at least right now.
  10. This season isn't about developing young talent at the MLB level.
  11. I will never understand the contact play at the major league level.
  12. They dont need a 5th starter until later in the month, so Tyler would just fill the pen, which may be getting a lot of work.
  13. This is finally a smart approach. I was so sick of all of our hitters going 1-2-3 on 5 pitches year after year. That said, this thread title should be in blue.
  14. That was rookie manager stuff. With our bench not sure what he was trying to accomplish other than to give Kirk and Flores some RBI ABs I think Broxton will be hit for a lot this year with men on considering both bench OF can play CF. In the NL, they better not make it a habit of pinch hitting for their CF, or they have the wrong CF.
  15. That was rookie manager stuff. With our bench not sure what he was trying to accomplish other than to give Kirk and Flores some RBI ABs
  16. I will be starting at 3B before Braun does.
  17. Record: 62-100; 5th place in the NL Central Team MVP: Santana Home Runs: Carter (30) Wins: Jungmann 12 Bold Predictions: Santana and Scooter have breakout years. Braun and Luc are traded
  18. Responding to your previous post Let's keep Luc healthy until the trade. I really think not moving him yet is playing with fire. As for the lineup, well, you know my thoughts on the season. I'd like to see if Scooter and Santana can make the leap to the next level. I think Braun and Luc will be traded this season, which will make the rest of the lineup interesting.
  19. How do you analyze a trade then if it is not after the fact? I think you are taking his comments a tad too literally. We both know he meant immediately after the fact.
  20. I am standing firmly behind this being a reckless move to not trade him before opening day. Catchers being traded at the deadline are rare for the reasons much discussed. I have to believe he will be traded shortly.
  21. They had a great piece on NPR last week about the pitching elbow and how it physically cant handle today's high velocity pitching. I would tend to think unless pitching changes, the days of the 250-300 inning pitcher are gone.
  22. Well so far Broxton looks pretty fringe himself and Supak is at best a project. But Rogers was a 27 year old we didn't want, so getting two players for him is pretty nice.
