  1. It's probably the simplest thing to try and allow as at least the money would be coming from elsewhere and not complicating title 9, other non revenue sports, etc. The biggest hurdle is going to be legislating in some way at the recruiting stage if possible. If not, well I guess you just have to accept how awful a system that will entail of funneling 'advertising' money from some booster to the kids. Then again, it's not like it's any less shady now being done behind the scenes. It's kind of like legalizing gambling/weed in that at least it comes to the surface to be regulated in some fashion.
  2. Maybe it’s just a bluff from MLB, but worth keeping an eye on going forward. Yes this is the first step in trying to extort money from Oakland for a new stadium. If that fails, which I think it will, then it's game on. In this case though, you kind of have to agree with the team that a new stadium is gravely needed. It's not like so many other situations where it's not but they demand anyway. I also wanna say there is some weird legal thing about any new builds in the area have to go to housing first, something odd like that. Maybe I actually read it in this thread, I don't recall. So beyond the normal finance issues there is that to deal with in Oak. Another note way back to when I brought up Vegas at the beginning of this talk is that the Rio has been sold since then as was part of the rumor of this whole grand plan. One thing to note relative to MKE is one of the new owners is a minority owner of the Bucks. https://www.reviewjournal.com/business/casinos-gaming/caesars-sells-rio-to-new-york-real-estate-group-for-516-3m-1855014/
  3. Generally agree. I know I shouldn't think that or be that confident vs a normally tough and physical opponent, but it really just looks that simple to me. MSU just should not be able to score very much at all. ETA: weather looking windy and possibly rainy now. Probably just gonna stay away from it, or maybe do the 1H if it's under 7
  4. All I care about is no STL. Then a big gap, then prefer not NYY. After that I'm ok with everyone with Rays being my #1 choice. Watching last night and listening to the announcers try to guess on the pitching strategies when they're so unfamiliar with this strategy was funny.
  5. Using more Uecker things, you could probably make something around "Left and Deep" since it's in left field and all.
  6. The logic is that if you're at 6-1 you can go 3-6 to end and still have a shot. merely going 4-5 and you're almost for sure in. Barring a Rodgers injury you're a near lock. OF course anything can happen, but barring something really really bad you should be set. Goes without saying though that if you back into the playoffs like that it doesn't instill much hope anyway. Essentially, I'm just saying you'll be in a really good position and at that point turn your focus to getting the bye.
  7. Was going to look up the status of Nebraska's QB this week and came to realize that in spite of being 5-0 MN is still not technically ranked in the top 25. I know how flukey their wins have been, but just the nature of being undefeated I thought they'd have squeaked in by now. I bet the Napoleon type complex of most MN fans has them all whining about this right now and how disrespectful it is, on and on. Generally speaking, I guess it's good for UW for them to have an inflated record for when we play them later. Though it really doesn't matter, all of UW's hopes come down to making and winning the title game with at most 1 loss. BUt, I also think it would be funny for MN to put up a fluky say 9-3 type year and have Fleck row his boat right out of there.
  8. Yea kinda what I thought, getting 11 years out of Sheets/Gallardo really helps minimize the negative look there.
  9. Probably just a picture of David Freese on a whole page somewhere. You could also probably make similar "opening day starter" collage similar to what folks can do for Browns or Bears QBs with a laundry list of laughable names to be considered 'aces'. But that Sheets/Gallardo years probably helps make it not look tooooo horrible. But for the most part we haven't had a ton of big moments in 30 years so list isn't too long, most would just include looking at their opening day rosters from say 94-ish to 03ish and laughing.
  10. Point spread is 10. Normally that seems like a lot in what should be a lower scoring game. Going just off numbers one would think MSU keeps it closer here and we have a battle this week. But eye test and all that I just think UW is way better than them and will win this game somewhat easily. Essentially, it just seems like barring turnovers/specials teams MSU should not be able to score more than 10-14 pts.
  11. Doesn't seem great to me. Is the upgrade from Davies to Gonzales really worth taking on that contract for Seager along with any upside on our prospects, especially Burnes if they fix him. Don't think it's worth it imo.
  12. But as Cowboys fan he's fine with Zeke doing the feed me thing for 5 years after every 8 yard run. ETA: Snappers next post is spot on. ESPN should only be for live games and College Gameday
  13. IMO his "hate to say it" was in regards to how the current mentality is to rip every roughing penalty (since often many are BS) and general public sentiment is against the over penalizing of it. So in this case to me it was directly at that, not a homer or team type of thing. Generally would agree with poor phrasing on his part, but that's what he meant IMO. I've always thought the Aikman/Bucks obsession by PAck fans has been overboard for years. Well I would agree I generally am just bored with both as announcers I never really picked up on some massive bias. If you think about things from a non GB fan's perspective I'd guess they mostly think all announcers are GB homers due to the gushing over everything Arod and the whole GB history and mystique in general.
  14. LOL yes, with a mustache it comes off as fun and joking haha. Side note, isn't funny how the new Jags QB basically got to be a star right away due to the stache. Granted, he's playing great from what I know. Just mean having that stache blew everything up quickly.
  15. Was the Rodgers discount double check a real hindrance to the development of the youth of WI? Oh it seemed like everyone loved that, I wonder what the difference is
  16. Detroit is a solid team and shouldn't be considered an easy W. But, get that and Oakland and you're at 6-1. Almost a lock for the playoffs at that point.
  17. 6-4 weekend on CFB. 0-1 NFL. Basically broke even and paid the rake. I'm struggling on those NBAs. I think the only one I'd put my neck out on Knicks under. That was my lock of the year last year too and hit easily. This year though they did sign some competent players though. Maybe Nuggets over, pretty much same team back that has proven strong in regular season. ETA: Hindsight I think bulls under might be good
  18. And turnovers or potential turnovers?
  19. And in spite of all that hitters had terrible numbers against him. I agree though, very frustrated he's not perfect and would prefer an upgrade. If I was the Yanks I'd have axed Rivera after blowing two titles in the Sox 3-0 comeback and the AZ championship.
  20. Yea for sure, that's logical. I would say that basically all top teams haven't played anyone yet though and no one besides Bama has looked like this. Except UGA playing ND of course. And some of it is admittedly just eye test of having watched them a lot this year and in past years. And this year they just seem different in how dominant they've been vs past OSU years, none of the stumbles and games tighter than they should be. Been straight tail kicking so far. Granted, it's only been 4 weeks and that closer than supposed to game could happen tomorrow. But, I have my money on OSU. You're right tomorrow is a big test to see how real it is. But, that's what everyone said last week too and look what happened. So if they crush MSU is it then gonna be that MSU isn't any good since they lost at home to ASU. And presumably if we beat MSU the following week and MSU is at like 4-3 then.
  21. Agree, Braun is basically off 2 days per week as it is. Cain should be getting one a week. Braun might get some at 1B. So 3-4 games a week is a good amount of PT combined with full time duties when guys inevitably hit the DL. I think DL stints might go back to 15 days again next year too, don't recall for sure but vaguely remember something like that. And of course, if Grisham does well and one of Cain/Braun struggles he'll just earn more and more PT. Seems like the perfect 4th OF to start next year to me for a team that needs a 4th to play a lot. I actually feel like they should start Cain on a maintenance plan similar to BRaun in recent years rather than the tough guy stuff of playing through everything.
  22. The teeing off on his FB happened for like a 2 week stretch. He gave up 2 HRs in the last 1.5 months of the season. He started using the slider again and he went back to being dominant. Honestly this like a BC92 overreaction to two bad games. Don't get me wrong, I'm fully on board with him improving his slider and adding at least an occasional changeup, it can only help. But to act like he's not ridiculously good right now is just flat out wrong.
  23. Why? we just you saw he can't be trusted
  24. Name came up in the Lux talk but what about Seager? Two years of arby left, maybe since he's had a major injury if you got him he'd be open to buying out a couple years of FA to put solid money in the bank. LA might be looking at Lux taking his spot down the line and saving the money on resigning him. I doubt we have the pieces to get him though.
  25. Dodgers just as easily can go out and drop $15 million per year on the top reliever on the FA market this offseason. Money is no object to that team. If they deal off high value players for Hader, it's because they see him as significantly better than anything they can acquire with only money. Yea a quick glance through LAD payroll on Spotrac and it seems to me they clear off a lot of their dead contracts this year and should be in a very good financial position. Crazy how well run they've been. Must be nice to be an LA and Houston fan these days, loaded major league teams combined with loaded farms (though Houston's farm gave up a lot for Greinke).
