  1. My thought is LAD is going to avoid paying Seager big money when he comes up soon and have Lux take over for him and that's why they wouldn't give Lux up for Vasquez. But really if Lux is really as good as he looks then there really isn't too many offers anyone can give them to make them give him up.
  2. your opinion is that Hader did not help them win games the last two years? Solid take.
  3. Yea if you can Lux, sure. But I don't think you're getting anything close to that level. If you got some Godfather type package, sure whatever do it. But I just don't think that's coming through and you're still trying to win the next few years with Yeli, Hader lines up exactly right with Yelich. He's crucial to winning.
  4. After Rendon it's lefty lefty on Soto though. That's what you want. Also, with guys on base the best way out is to K people and he has one of the highest K rates ever. In all this we have to remember the only solid hit he gave up was the last one. A questionable HBP and a broken bat pure luck hit were the killer, bad breaks that both went against him. Of course it was clear his control was off and he was behind on everyone, but even in spite of that he needed two things like that to go against him. He's great overall, he just had a crap game, it happens. With how great he was last year it's tough to say 'nerves' or any psycho babble bs talking heads try to say on espn, he just didn't have it that day. Can happen to anyone. And for our other options in Pom/Guerra, they got hit in that Col game too. ETA: I would agree with those who've said they prefer if Hader could go back to his 2018 fireman type role. If Knebel can come back and be end of game insurance to free up Hader for his 2018 role that would be ideal. As one who dislikes the traditional predetermined closer role I think you'd get the most value out of him in his previous role. Especially since I see the short starters thing continuing for us. Him and Pomeranz, in those 2-3 inning fireman roles with a Knebel type one inning closer at the end.
  5. For the Yeli comp. The more accurate way to put in regards to what Snapper is saying is that if Yelich hit .390 for September on our crazy run to end the year but went 0/5 with a critical strikeout to end the game in the top of the 9th vs Col in the 2nd to last game then he no longer should be consider good or best hitter and thus demoted to like 7th in the order. This whole talk comes down to one falsehood trying to act like Hader has been struggling lately on account of one lucky hit in Col. It's simply not true, the guy was absolutely incredible to finish the year. For the 2nd pitch, I complained all year about why they wouldn't let him throw it (complaint about a lot of guys on the team) but since mid Aug he has been throwing it and it's been key to him dominating. I think the 'no 2nd pitch' is being overblown too. He obviously didn't have it that day though, not denying that as guys have bad days, but in general he does have it and they just have to let him throw it. Ther'es a talk that you could've had a quicker trigger once his command was off, that's fair. I could see putting in one more guy like Guerra after Suter so that you could PH and move everyone back an inning. That's fair. But to act like Hader was some impending disaster is just 100% false and just Brewers negativity and pessimism.
  6. Good idea. Well, targeting the Yelich model I guess the idea would be to target bad and clearly rebuilding teams. Your Bal, KC, Sea, Det etc type teams then start digging into their rosters.
  7. But Hader hasn't been like that at all since mid August when he started using his slider again. He's been scored on 2 times since mid August. By this type of thinking you'd also be holding Pomeranz's bad numbers before we got him against him as well. Hader has been our best guy in this end of season stretch. Again, you're advocating distrust and demotion due to one HR in the Col air. And your prefered choice and more trusted player is Pomeranz, you know, the guy who also gave up a HR in the same game in Colorado.
  8. How much of that is just our ingrained pessimism as Brewers fans though? I mean, you're acting like Hader has been bad lately or something. For this Sept run he had a 1.88 ERA and 10 Saves and one blown save in that Col game. He only gave runs two times out of about 15 appearances. That Col game, and a fluke oppo HR to that scrawny guy from STL over two weeks ago. That's it. In the majoriy of games he never even got a guy on base against him. You're basically advocating for demoting and not trusting him because he gave one HR in Colorado. For you last sentence, I think everyone else is more comfortable going down swinging with our best guy rather than a Guerra/Peralta/Cloudio
  9. Generally agree with Plush here. Sure, I'd love to have Grandal back but if it requires something big then I think you have to let him go. I saw a 5 year deal proposed, no way for me on that. I think even getting to 3 years for 17-20ish mil is probably pushing it. But, it's not too crazy and I could see it. The closer to 15 per the more I get doing it, but if it just keeps going up beyond that I think you walk away knowing you have a solid guy to take his place next year. Then look for a cheap guy to pair with Pina if you're not confident in Notthingham (IDK a Suzuki type guy). If you're having to choose to spend the money on him or Moose, as much as I think Moose is a touch overrated here I would go Moose since we have no one to take his place assuming Shaw is done. Plus, he'd be noticeably cheaper than Grandal. All that said, I don't think we should diminish at all how crucial Grandal was to this September run. Don't think it happens without him.
  10. This is hindsight 20/20 talk. He essentially played last night just like he played all of September, which got us to this point. Hader was off and combined with a couple bad breaks and that was it. Sure, in hindsight maybe can find something. Such as perhaps using a Guerra in between Suter/Pom that way you can pinch hit rather than letting Pom hit. That could've pushed everyone back an inning. But, if Guerra gets beat up folks here are screaming how dumb it was not to just stick to Pom/Hader. Or, leave Pomeranz out for the 8th. But if he puts 2 on and then Hader comes in and doesn't get out people are screaming how you should've just had Hader out to start the inning. That's the risk of a heavy bullpen formula we use, some days a reliever is off, and the more guys you go to the odds of that guy pitching go up.
  11. Right, if I knew for sure that they weren't going to win then what's the point. Now, you know you're in an uphill battle and long shot, etc but there is always a chance you'll get on that run and pull it off, like they almost did last year. If I know the whole time that no matter how good they get that somehow they're going to lose it would kill the 'hope'. IMO, winning a title in an underdog/cinderella type way is a much more gratifying title than what the Yankees, Alabama, or Duke basketball does. So when one of them does pull it off it'll be all that much more fun.
  12. Yup, by having good teams making it into this situation it creates the opportunity for crushing losses. Better this than the late 80s early 90s type timeframe when literally every sport was terrible, including the Packers. My friends and I who witnessed pretty much every crushing UW defeat in person used to say how it kind of could be better to just lose the games clearly and easily rather than the late close losses in weird ways. then 59-0 happened and we realized how wrong we were.
  13. You forget the litany of UW football one score losses from 2010-2017. Two basically hail mary type throws in back to back games in the Wilson year, things like that.
  14. Remember they did go to Hader first in Game 7 vs LAD last year. But, it was different as you still had Knebel and they still viewed JJ as good, though they shouldn't have at that point. I don't see it happening in this game.
  15. Yea Shaw doesn't concern me. Backs up 1B and 3B and as much as he has been bad this year. He's looked ok in his PH appearances of late, I doubt the stats look great in them but he's hit some balls hard foul, hit a HR not long ago. has worked some counts. Plus, of the other options he's probably the most likely to run into one for a HR, which of course could be needed.
  16. I'd add that cleaning up the review system of the last 2 minutes is probably a better thing to focus on right now in terms of speeding up end of situations. That doesn't change the fundamentals of the game the way a Elam ending or some kind of massive FT change would. Side note though on changing FTs though is that changes like that have been made over the years. If you watch games from the 70s or other old games there was a whole different way on FTs. At some point, I think they even got 3 attempts to make 2. I have never fully looked it up though to know all the changes, I just know it used to be way different.
  17. I've always thought they should have a different name for it. I like it overall as a measuring stick of everything together as best they can. BUt a title like Player Efficiency Rating or something like that would lead to folks taking the name a bit too literally like seems to often be the case. It's not direct to "Wins" and it doesn't mean that any tom dick and harry you bring up from AAA will be able to make it to 0 WAR, often that's far from the case. But the name leads to it being taken a bit too literally, imo.
  18. Also, with how chummy he and the owner seem to be it wouldn't surprise me in the least if there was a specific need this offseason (say signing Grandal) and Mark asked him to do some tricky accounting on his contract that Braun wouldn't do it to try and win in his last year or two. Something like moving 5 more mil to the backloaded post career payments he already has set. Granted, it's a little odd for a billionaire to ask a 'tens of millionaire' to help him out, but seems there is year to year budgets the team worries about. Overall, considering how this looked as of a couple years ago when the injuries were piling up I think they came out OK. He was a critical part this year. I don't think the chances of him staying healthy again all next year area great, but it's clear the guy can still hit if healthy.
  19. It's really crazy the Nats and LAD haven't won it all with amount of top top level starting pitching over the last 8ish years. At least LA has had multiple deep runs though. Still, it's crazy you can build teams that well with that huge advantage for multiple years and not win it all. Maybe it's one of their years but Houston is just ridiculous right now.
  20. He's said that countless times already. All this is him saying, 'I'm not going to talk about so stop asking.' Which, won't change anything as they will keep asking. Really you should like that he said this, as we just saw the Bucks can't talk about publicly so it's just dumb for him to do it as well. So he's saying he doesn't want the drama, just play the games. It is what it is, they're offering the max. He'll decide next offseason if he takes it. They can't do anything between now and then anyway so there's nothing to talk about.
  21. I have a friend who's a Twins fan. Been a running joke for years on getting eliminated by NYY. Then of course Houston takes the 1 spot this year setting it up yet again. Talking to him though, after he made jokes about how local media is adamant the team will not be intimidated by NY this time he then pretty much nails it that if you had to pick Houston on NY of course you'd rather play NY with how loaded Houston's pitching is. Still, it's just funny how they always end up with the Yanks.
  22. Yes, OSU looks like a juggernaut at this point and on a mission. Playing a game this week neutral field the only one I'd pick to beat them is Bama. As good as UW has looked I don't expect the OSU game to be close. As you said, even a strong D like ours is very unlikely to hold them under 20 and likely many more. I know it's crazy to say, but somehow OSU is being overlooked/underrated nationally at this point. Clicked on a couple bowl projections today and they weren't in the playoffs. Like, who's beating them? I suppose PSU has a chance. I guess due to losing badly the last couple times in the playoff people are writing them off, but this looks way different than the last couple years. I suppose if/when they beat MSU by 35 on Saturday maybe it'll open some eyes or maybe it'll have to wait until after the UW game.
  23. UW Madison stadium area bar told me they count Seltzers in their 'beer' category for record keeping purposes. Said Seltzers are 38% of 'beer sales'. Couldn't believe it when I heard, but thinking about it and it makes sense.
  24. Friend of mine did while in LV before the season. Had written it off a month ago, so a nice backdoor win. It wasn't anything substantial, like $50. Still, better than nothing and helps pay for the next flight out.
  25. Of course WAS should be favored, no doubt about it. But one game of baseball so anything can happen. Positive look at this that you should be able to cover 5 innings between Woodruff/Hader alone. I'd guess Pomeranz is our next most trusted and can go 2. Should be able to have at least 7 innings of really strong pitching to make this a game. Just can't have one of those three have a blowup game/inning on this day and they should be in this thing.
