  1. I think if we were in a video game where we could straight up guarantee you get the #1 in 2021 I'd be all for that, it makes perfect sense and if I was picking I'd take Lawrence over Tua. However, say you don't take Tua. Then the next year you only get the #3 pick, well then you're kinda screwed. With the draft capital they've built up the team at #1 would hold them ransom and clean them out. It's probably safest to just take Tua now. Spitballing though. If you get a good read on the Oregon QB and think he can do it maybe you can do the trade down move this year and take him and not worry about it the year after. You'd have your young QB and have a ridiculous amount of high draft picks to go around him. So in theory maybe be able to build up a Seahawks type model of an absolutely loaded talent team paired with a cheap QB. Yea, crazy ending in that Houston game last night. I scroll through twitter and I see constant chatter about how awful the NFL game is (this happens almost every Thursday and quite a bit all the time for NFL) and I just think why don't people just watch college instead. It's so much more entertaining.
  2. So much for being in a boot for a week and then being re-evaluated. Yea I recall being told on here that there is No Way he'll play for two weeks.
  3. I really hope Counsell isn't making decisions off one AB sample sizes. He also had a bomb off RHP Lyles last AB. Hosmer has a .635 OPS vs lefties this year and. 666 for his career. I'm glad it worked out, though. Generally agree. I could see a wider logical argument about hitters seeing relievers back to back days or multiple times though. Similar to the 3rd time through the lineup talk. I'm sure people talked about in regards to JJ and the Dodgers last year. But yea I generally agree. I was just stuck on a call for awhile with time to kill and looked up Claudio/Hosmer stats and Hosmer is 2/9. That includes last night. Obviously a good choice though, seems we have good Freddy today
  4. I think Hosmer had a clean single of Claudio last night. Might be part of the reason not going to him. If I'm remembering correctly anyway, didn't double check
  5. Yea I think Plush's point falls in line with what I'm saying. That stuff, yea ban it all you want. But I think they've taken a bit too far into plenty of healthy and legal things. I'd bet money the muscle bound workout obsessed guy I work with his workout powders on his desk that he buys over the counter is illegal in MLB but not in life. funny, I used to make the opposite argument in the late 90s when folks would say "why is everyone so mad about McGwire/Sosa etc and what they're taking, it's not even banned in MLB". I'd say, yea but it's technically illegal in normal life so that should be enough right there. Granted, it's something the govt wasn't really too worried about enforcing relative to real deal drugs.
  6. Well, I'd say I'm generally against the Perez in RF where he's basically barely played this year when Gamel has been solid vs lefties. These type of things almost always end in the head scratcher type player come up with at least two hits. So here's rooting for that
  7. No it's a legit discussion. Perhaps not the best thread for it though. First, no a big part of the obsession on steroids is the integrity of records and all that. The point about available to all is something valid to right now, I agree there. But this was not available to folks years and years back, and that's a big part of why the old timers were up in arms about it. Onto that point, no not all banned PEDs are bad for people's health. In fact, many of them are prescribed by doctors all the time. The old school Canseco/Mcguire real deal anabolic stuff, yea that's different and I agree. But many modern PEDs banned now are fully available over the counter, legal for average joes and are beneficial to health. I've seen studies saying how great HGH, but that was a few years ago now so I'm not sure if more has come out poking holes in it. So my general take would be to just move the line a bit further to allow more supplements or things in small doses but real deal needles in the arm horse testosterone, yea keep that crazy stuff banned. Like using an alphabet analogy, if A=worse of the worst old school and Z=some run in the mill thing that millions take daily without thinking. Let's say the line is currently set at "P". Well, I'd be fine moving it over to like G or J. That's my two cents and will try to refrain from much more. Most importantly, glad Suter is killing it.
  8. I find it crazy that no one seems to care about this yet using steroids makes you the biggest criminal of all-time. This player had the muscles in his arm artificially improved with a surgery in a provable way with his velocity, yet no problem. How is this not considered cheating? Artificially gain some unquantifiable advantage from whatever Braun took, suspended. As someone who is not up in arms about PEDs I've made that same point over the years several times. It's all about the integrity of the records and how folks 70 years ago didn't have this etc, you can't take some extra testosterone or you're the devil. But you can take a ligament from another human and insert it in your body. Another one is laser eye surgery or even just contacts in general. Is not the medical advantages of ACL/Knee surgeries now not an performance enhancement not available to Mickey Mantle (who had his career hurt by fluke knee injury). Note, this isn't argument that these things shouldn't be allowed, as I fully agree they should. It's an argument that the obsession and holier than thou attitudes about PEDs are a bit overboard, imo.
  9. Simplest and safest way to get in is Cards pound the Cubs, I think that's clear. Greediest way to look at is to still get the division which means root for the Cubs and take care of our own business. It's also probably the most likely way to make a serious run to the NLCS in order to avoid LAD. Really it just comes down to your level of 'gambling' for which you want to root for. I'd prefer the higher chance of a deep run so as of now still going for Cards to lose. But, will also be content with the season if we steal this spot from Cubs again this year to at least have that bragging right over them. Really, since the WS title is likely a less than 1% chance maybe it's best to just root for that and be content, anything beyond is gravy. Probably one more day of Cards win combined with a loss from us and I'm off the root against the Cards wagon.
  10. Well as Keith said they'd want their lefties all over for this guy. Still, one would think you'd rather have Cain out their than Arcia. Just hit a ding dong yesterday. Braun off in prep for lefty tomorrow was very expected.
  11. I wonder if this change of pace type role is the best spot for him longer term as opposed to a normal starter type of role. Obviously he should only go through a lineup one time this way. It catches a team off balance. With how good he's looked its sure tempting to think of him starting but we'll see for next. Great guy to have on a team like ours who likely won't have many starters who can go deep in games. Anyone have any data on his pitches, seems like he's throwing a bit harder. Wonder if it's true.
  12. Was going to post similar to Bill Hall. Angels have to do something and with Pujols coming off soon they could start to get aggressive again. Obviously pitching is their problem, add in Cole and Otani next year and you're massively improved there. Maybe could kind of backload the deal a bit to help for the next couple years. If he wants to go home I'd say they should do it, it's basically the advantage of being the mega market, might as well use it. Still, I don't know why Houston doesn't just pay him. I know their hitters will be coming up soon too but you'll also have Verlander and Greinke falling off soon as well. Well, unless Verlander is the next Nolan Ryan or something and can keep doing this.
  13. Yup, I picked him late season for fantasy when he came back and got some good games out of him. Was somewhat on a pitch count back then due to the injury but should be about normal stretched now. But, in their situation it would be wise to not push him too much. He's capable of putting up a heck of a game though and has some good stuff, strikes a lot of people out which of course can be bad for us.
  14. Speaking of Galvis. His September is 143/234 for a 496 OPS dropping his seasons down to 260/296/732. I remember much consternation on not getting him.
  15. Will be, yes, by the end of 2021. Right now Cole DeGrom Buehler Verlander Scherzer Snell Maybe Greinke Maybe Strasburg. But by the end of next year DeGrom Verlander Scherzer Greinke Strasburg will be replaced by: Cole Buehler Woodruff Glasnow Snell. I thought the board made a pact to ignore this guy's nonsense? Saw it on all the social media networks, facetwit, snapbook, etc... Lol, yes this was the final straw for me and then more re-iteration that this pen is as good or better than last year's. Lost cause.
  16. Sir, I think you're arguing and debating yourself here. I said there was a parallel in that they've had Rudolph and should know what they have in him and how that's similar to what GB had. I don't know how that's debatable. I didn't say I agreed with the choice, I said it's a similar situation. I said a team knows more about a guy they've had in house for 2-3 years than they do an unknown draft pick, again I have no idea how that's debatable. If you don't think teams that typically win and get these things right over and over and over like Pit and NE deserve a little benefit of the doubt I don't know what to say. Think Pit has been proven right on two public things they got blasted for in the last year in Brown and Bell. Rewind to Mike Wallace too. I've said the whole time I'd have kept the pick expecting to lose this year and try to get my next QB. Just was pointing out some of the nuances and gray areas of it all. If I was guessing I'd also say this isn't a bet that Rudolph is awesome, it's that they think Ben is back next year. Just a guess of course, we'll see. I still don't agree with it with the info available to jabronis like us. Even if he is back he doesn't have much time left and this draft has two legit top level QB prospects, perfect set of "luck" to have the injury happen this year. Guess you could say the same about NO. Assuming they own their pick (I didn't check), sucks they had a SB team go down but say they have an awful record when Brees is close to coming back. Why not string that out a bit longer and shoot for that top 10 pick that could get them their next QB. Obviously trickier situation due to Brees not out for the year though.
  17. Hiura back and Spang at SS. Interesting, I like it and hope it works. For the C, all we can do is trust them at this point. I mean Grandal is playing great right now and it's crunch time now. If he's saying he feels ok you have to go with him, he's a vet and knows himself. Plus, if we're going to really think about it it makes more sense to have the off day be Wed/Thurs due to the day/night. And I think Thurs is most logical due to LHP.
  18. Well I brought it up along the lines similar to the situation another poster mentioned how KC traded away Smith (known vet) to give the guy they had in house his chance, just like GB did. In that they have the in person knowledge that if they feel he's legit/good that they're ok with it. It's moreso than a vague draft pick that could just as easily bust like Leaf and countless other QBs. It's a bit different than just going with a draft pick you don't really know squat about. Just some pararrels in the theoretical situation. Generally I'd agree with what you said there on chances of hitting two in a row, etc. How luck it is and so forth. But, it happened for GB and it happened for Colts, could even say similarly with Bledsoe/Brady. So if you have an opportunity to pull it off it's huge for the franchise. Personally, if I was their fan I'd rather go with the top pick this year rather than Rudolph. But, I haven't worked with Rudolph every day for years, so maybe they're that confident in him. IDK. My guess would be that they think Ben is playing a couple more years, not that that they think Rudolph is star caliber. As you can see by my other posts I agree with your side on this that I wouldn't have done this trade based on our knowledge here. I'd have let the team lose for a year and hoped to get a top top pick for the next QB. Heck, even if they're supremely confident in Rudolph. Say he does well, even as a first timer he's probably still not winning a ton of games this year so you'd be able to get a great pick to go with him in this draft.
  19. A pinch hitting hot streak ala Santana last year would be great and certainly a help. But i don't think he'll get any starts, barring injury, that would lead to a huge huge impact type hot streak.
  20. Somehow former Bucks great Anthony Mason was able to keep flying under the radar in spite of stuff like this on him, I don't know how. Let's just say I wasn't the biggest fan of that acquisition and was proven quite correct on that one
  21. I get that thought, but he simply can't and won't catch everyday. I looked up the game logs on a few catchers with the most games played this year, JT Realmuto had a couple instances of catching 6 straight days. Yadier Molina recently had a stretch of catching 9 straight days, which is for sure the most in a row aside from Grandal currently at 12 in a row, not counting today. Even if Pina isn't ready, there's no way he's catching the next 6 games in a row. Today seems as good a day as any to let Freitas or Nottingham do it and get Grandal off his feet for a day. Can't let Grandal wear down and be useless down the stretch. Well I'd guess the lefty on Thursday would be the theoretical best day to do it. Would be a better matchup for the backup C and Grandal can play 1st.
  22. Well, I'd guess Lyles is #1.
  23. I posted it in yesterday's' thread but surprisingly Spangenberg's stats this year were only like 250/275 going into yesterday and are now 271/292. Sure seems like he's been doing better than that doesn't it? I like his approach and all that so him getting some PT is fine by me, maybe we can catch one of them Sogard/Saladino type hot streaks at the right time
  24. Did you just say Woodruff is one of the top 3 pitchers in baseball?
  25. He didn't just want a woman. He wanted a child. Like, he isn't mentally right. Well true I guess, I don't want to get into that discussion. But you know what I meant.
