  1. That's true and all and that is the flaw of the stat and why as many have said it has to be taken with a grain of salt and not as an end all be all. But in theory/general, teams being put in a position to eat shellackings like that while also not being in a position to give some out to balance it are usually not going to be as good. so in general over a huge sample and years and years of MLB data that stuff will balance out in the stats. But, as we're seeing right now there are exceptions to everything. And in general I'd say for how MKE is constructed this is more than variance/luck, due to the budget leading to starting P limitations they're essentially playing a strategy that's going to lead to tons of close games. Combine that with since they have to use their pen so much more than everyone else that they're more likely to punt on games they're down and turn them into huge shallackings in order to save them pen for a game they can win. It kind of makes sense. But of course, wouldn't everyone say that it would be a better sign/indicator to not have these shellackings or to have given some out ourselves? Still, it's just one data point to go along with a thousand others in baseball.
  2. Yet another reason CFB is more entertaining than NFL. Every game is on TV so it's almost impossible not to have 1-3 games that are good/close in every time slot for 12 hours.
  3. Well no way I'd want Frazier starting. I mean as the backup to Moose/Thames. Basically just plan a RH backup at those spots, who could also play some LF if needed. Note, I'd actually prefer someone a bit more contact oriented than Frazier as he's quite boom/bust like we all feel like we have too many guys off. Just that level guy at those positions in general. I don't know of a better example other than Frazier and don't wanna dig who could be better. I just know you're going to assume Knebel is as good as he was immediately after TJ surgery, I'd expect nothing less.
  4. Hey if that could all happen, great. Even still I don't think you could consider it WS favorite with juggernauts like LAD, Houston, NYY in place. As much as that's a good team, the starting P is still lacking compared to top teams, and don't forget the September advantage thing is gone next year. But to your point, yes your fairy tail world this is a good team. Especially if they catch some breaks on SP as opposed to mostly bad breaks this year. One thing I'd right away say won't happen is Donaldson taking a 1 year deal after he proved it this year. He took a 'prove it' deal this year in order to lock in a legit contract this offseason. With how well he's played I can't imagine he won't get a 2-3 year deal, it's not like he's 36 years old yet. Also can't imagine someone including Cincy won't top 1/10 for Iglesias. Of course same goes for GRandal, without the draft pick attached now and off a great year (in spite of you hating him 3 weeks ago) I'm sure he'll have a goal of locking in multi years. Still, I don't know why you're not advocating for Freitas at 500K instead. Cain, agree we don't get out of without paying. And in case you're not noticing Cain is generally playing fine and hitting well of late, consistently hitting the ball hard and is getting fine results from it too. He's basically been fine since the ASBish time when he got the thumb treatment and days off. All signs point to him being fine next year, though of course he's an injury prone guy. Plus it would leave you very thin at OF and you're starting an unproven CF while you're 'going all in'. But just in general with injuries and Braun's resting you need to plan on at least 4 guys on a rotation. Gamel isn't the worst of course as the 4th, buuut I feel like that's a perfect role for Grisham to step into next year. He'll get a ton of starts and ABs. Possibly he'll take a job due to great play but at the very least you know what you have for 2021 post Braun. Quick things I'd guess. Shaw is gone. Moose is back. So to address the LHP issue with him and Thames and having the 26th roster spot. A focus on RH backup at both spots would be a great addition in some way. Being the Brewers have to look at frugal options, guys like Todd Frazier, something like that. They'll do their best to keep Grandal but I'm skeptical they do. If not I'd assume they go cheap there with Pina and then cycling through Nottingham/Freitas as injuries happen. I'd guess some kind of vet innings eater type P with some kind of track record who's not too expensive, really that just might end up being Gio but maybe someone in that same kind of Chacin vein when they got him. Oh, yes I agree that Yeli won't be traded after next year. They'll also view 2021 as a go for it yet. Possibly look at trading him that deadline if the team flops. So they'd view it as two more years to go for it and plan accordingly. If he doesn't go at that deadline, yea that offseason you probably just have to trade him to try and build longer term.
  5. Normally I'd agree. But they're trying to get teams 2 bye weeks now due to the concern for the student athlete. UW gets another bye in early November before their last 3 games. I actually feel like the "week 0" games might just turn into the first full week down the line due to trying to get everyone an extra bye
  6. Nice try on what? That I'm changing my tune or something? Me on 9/10: "I think what should be obvious by how you move these people around on a day by day basis is that it lays out exactly what pretty much all of their problems is, consistency. All these guys you get a fascination with after one or two outings are all capable of doing well on any given day, it's not like they don't have 'stuff' so to speak. But they're also liable to get blown up way too often and you have no idea when it's gonna happen. " You on Sept 6: Yes. It’s not as good as I thought it would be. You today: Gloating that you were right Still, I fully will say and admit they've outperformed what I thought they could do 2ish weeks ago. Most of anything I commented on was you going overboard on acting like we'd 'know' these guys are gonna be awesome that had no track record to go off. Basically "could/might" is way different than "know". Guys like Suter, Black, Peralta, then you were throwing things like Nelson too. So to me it comes to Suter/Black/Pomeranz doing generally well whereas 2-3 weeks back someone a little more toned down like me realized we really didn't know what we were gonna get. They could've flopped, instead they've probably been our 3 of our top 5 guys of late. If you go back a few weeks you'll also find yourself saying that JJ was gonna be awesome because he had that one good game where his splitter looked good. You'll find yourself saying Nelson was gonna be a bullpen ACE. You'll find yourself saying Grandal basically was a bad signing and that he should be benched for a AAA guy because he's too tired. You'll find yourself one day saying Jackson is good, the next day bad. You'll find yourself saying management should be canned for how bad their team was built and how bad the pitching was. In your praise for pitching you ripped on the O as the real problem but they've been doing much better too. Basically throw enough at the wall and something is gonna stick, especially if you take both sides of every issue.
  7. Bullpen was great yesterday. Was anyone on here saying you were ignorant the games before when they loaded bases every inning and what was it Wednesday night when the pen blew the lead? Even folks like me who've called you out on how overboard you are on this have mostly just said the issue is consistency, yet you're trying to act like we're all saying it completely sucks. Most of the guys have the stuff to do it on any given day, it's just that they are too susceptible to the blow up days and therefore inconsistent. Which should be so obvious to you as you change your good/bad list every day based on their ups/downs and inconsistencies. Beyond inconsistency, a lot of the guys simply hadn't been pitching so there needs to be a see how they do type attitude before crowning them awesome. Say guys like Suter/Black, two guys where two weeks ago you don't know what you're gonna get but have been doing great. But yea, carry on with told ya so after good games. Return of Hader's slider is huge, just shake your head wondering why they went away from it all year.
  8. funny you mention this. I had to listen to the MIA broadcast on XM last night as i was driving. AFter the game the announcer kept babbling about waiting on the official scorer to see if Suter got the W.. they went to commercial and he left it saying we should have that answer when we get back. I'm sitting there dumbfounded, he came in a tie and left wtih the left after they got the lead. It's not even a decision, it's completely common and by the book. That said, the other MIA announcer was actually really really good. The ending guy was kind of a rockhead but the other guy was really good. Knew a ton about our season and each players season history and how things had gone for them. He'd done his homework. Generally I'd say I thought he's better than the MKE radio guys.
  9. He was on last inning though, and when he's on he's usually very good. So I'm fine with this but obviously having a quick hook if needed
  10. Reminiscent of the Dodgers series. Lefty starters to get a RH heavy lineup. then bring in a righty specialist.
  11. So far so good on Freddy but that speaks to what we're dealing with that in the 7th inning of a crucial 1 run game we're going to him when he did so poorly last time out. Looked great, might as well let him start the next if there is righties' coming up. Then have Hader ready to finish off
  12. That’s all’s I can stands and I can’t stands no more. Freitas hurt his rib cage late August and missed more than a week, came back, got 7-8 AB’s, got called up to MKE, and has only pinch hit, albeit every game, and has yet to get a hit, with 3 bb and 2 K’s. Point is, we are not seeing him at his best, not even close, unlike most of you, I’ve watched Freitas when he was playing every day and in a rhythm, he’s closer to a Great hitter than a good hitter. Go ahead and knock 100 points off his AAA average if you want, that would still make him almost a .300 hitter in the big leagues. He’ll hit eventually, even if it’s only in a pinch hitting roll, he’s too good a hitter not too. But go ahead and pretend how smart we are by declaring Freitas a journeyman failure, but remember it’s because of his defense and not his hitting. Haha. Another actual laugh out loud one. Yes, long for him to be taking ABs from Grandal. You're right. I think this is the first time I said anything on it and keep in mind you're not alone in the Freitas AAA love here. OK we're on here, huge hit by Braun. With this momentum they have, keep playing from ahead will be huge. I'd think Hader can get at least 1 inning today, maybe two. Tack on some Badger Mutual Insurance runs and cruise in this one. I'd like to see Burnes get an appearance, good to be in this park for him haha.
  13. Really anyone should get a 2nd opinion on something like this, should just be standard practice. Willis Reed-esque would probably be more accurate than Jordan-esque. He played with a cold/flu. Unless I took that wrong and you just meant his general comeback after retiring the first time, then yea I get what you mean. Sorry, just my disdain for the MJ mythology that has been created in the last 20 years. Or even worse, KD-esque and unfortunately we saw how that turned out and we don't want to repeat that.
  14. DH in Yankee stadium with the short RF porch. Championship.
  15. No off days all next week either. Any recent updates on Pina? Thought today with the lefty might be the day he'd come back and try to get Grandal a day. [sarcasm]Shockingly, Freitas isn't being thrown in at 1B and C to absolutely dominate[/sarcasm]
  16. In the Cubs situation just getting the 1 title makes it all worth it. so by no means trying to belittle him as that's all they cared about was getting the 1. But I've generally thought this for a while now, that they went from a potential dynasty type run to a short window due to those trades. It's not like they're going to be bad anytime soon but they're now going to be kind of scrambling each year. Plus, as you said what if that game 7 goes another way after they blew it late? How this would all be remembered differently at this point if they didn't recover from that blown save and find a way to win.
  17. I think it was reported by Tom directly from CC that Huira won't play the field until the homestand. We'll see of course but I'd be expecting PH only for him the next few days from what I've seen reported.
  18. Yea it would be nice to get a good lead in a game and let Burnes get his feet wet. Get 2-3 outings of that nature out of the way and see how he does.
  19. Can't believe in the span of one week since the Thursday night beatdown to the Cubs how drastically things have changed. Just shows how crazy baseball is and why the NBA 8 seed analogy is just so embarrassingly wrong. Sure, none of us are predicting they'll win it all or even beat LAD. But it's the nature of baseball when even the best of the best teams lose over 40% of their games and the most common outcome is only winning 2/3 when the best team plays the worst team.
  20. Wonder if the Penniston TE who transferred to Rutgers is kicking himself right now. IDK if he's playing or how anything is going for him, just saying he'd be getting tons of PT right now.
  21. Yelich had been putting some separation between he and Bellinger on the % type of stats of late so I was actually starting to think he could steal the MVP back if that trend continued. Obviously that's out now, Bellinger will win easily now.
  22. Point spread is GB -3 and over/under 44 as of now. Pretty tough line IMO, I think I go MN if have to. Best bet maybe being the under? Overall this is going to be a big litmus test for GB. Get this win and I think we can start to get excited again.
  23. Agree. He's the one I'm most excited about at this point. Who knows if/when he'll have that blow up game but also considering he's controlled for a while here's hoping they can turn him into a weapon. Kind of like what they were hoping for in Wahl when they got him. So, if that does happen plus Wahl comes back and is what they were hoping you could have a great backend again next year adding them to Knebel and Hader. Obviously a ton ifs and variables in there though, but just saying that's some potential fire coming in at end of games. Possibly could allow Hader to move to a more flexible role too.
  24. Good park for Davies much like it's a good park for Anderson. Yes, sure would be nice to get out early tonight and cruise to an easy one.
