  1. Jeffress pitched yesterday but was off for like 3 days before. He should be available and I probably go with him with how shaky Knebel has been. But hey, they got through it...now just get a darn run
  2. When it comes to SS starts. As other have said, we've currently been getting Sogard for 1-3 starts per week at SS this year. The dropoff on D from Sogard to Miller isn't drastic but the offensive improvement is huge. So, clear win their IMO.
  3. I'd guess we see him much more at 2B than SS. In spite of Villar being generally adequate this year he hasn't passed much eye test and doesn't seem to me like management has much trust in him. We'll see of course but if he just plays the exact amount mixing SS/2B that Sogard did the first month-ish, he's a clear upgrade of Sogard so I don't see anything to complain about.
  4. And with Marlins you have Castro to address 2B as well as significant salary you can eat for them in order to reduce the cost in prospects. Personally I don't think his upgrade over Villar is all that drastic and wouldn't be looking to do it, but it is an improvement and might help reduce prospect cost.
  5. I agree. Wouldn't it be great if we had the same reputation for batters that the Braves had with pitching in the 90's. The Braves always seemed to keep their best pitching prospects and trade the ones who weren't very good. They were so successful it actually started to impact the view of the prospect if they were willing to trade them. I understand the need at times to trade prospects to add complementary players to the organization/ML team, but not at the expense of the players that actually develop into above average major league talent. We should be trading the prospects we don't see a future when they have value. I know much of this occurred on the Melvin watch, so we may see a completely different result with Stearns. yes it is impossible to tell how his trajectory changed due to the trade to Cleveland. My main concern is that we were taking on a rental for several months with Sabbathia and even with a legendary performance by him we only just made the playoffs, yet we gave up a prospect who developed into an above average OF, while the prospects we held onto fizzled (or as you state we traded - Cain) and we had zero other OF prospects develop and contribute since then (except of course trading Hanigar as part of the Parra trade that ended with ZD). Man if I ever meet Doug Melvin I'm gonna punch him in the face.... If Sheets doesn't get hurt to end that year who knows what happens. With two aces like that anything is possible. And where was Brantley gonna play with Hart and Braun in his way. I don't recall if when young he was capable of playing CF, I think he could've but you also had Cain in the farm too. Trade from a place of depth/strength to fill weakness is kind of common sense. BRantley didn't become a full time contributor until 2012 when MKE's window was basically coming to an end. Even still by then you'd filled out your OF with Gomez and Aoki too. They never really had issues with filling out the OF
  6. Whoa whoa, I've seen here that hitting coaches don't matter
  7. Remember we haven't really had any problems with having a strong OF other than when we did it on purpose by trading away Gomez and Davis. As in, where would Haniger have ever played here. And as of now having a good half season often doesn't prove you're going to be long term good. Hope he makes it, but we'll see.
  8. Yes, I would make that trade again. No problem.
  9. I think you are being too generous if you think there will be no complaints even with that record. We will not be winning by enough style points or he let the game get too close before pulling the pitcher..... 173-0
  10. Reds would be fools not be shopping him now, great sell high opportunity for them. They're not contending anytime soon and he's playing out of his mind. Of course it depends on the price, but I'd welcome him back if it made sense.
  11. Funny I saw that Cardinals joke site had a bunch of Cards fans saying how they wouldn't trade Yadi for Trout. And they were serious. He's not a winner, etc. Or maybe baseball is a team sport and the Angels have yet to put a playoff caliber team around him. The Angels current team without Trout is probably a 72 win team. He's worth way more than 7-8 wins for that team. Exactly. Don't tell that to Cards fans though. They'll respond that Yadi's heart is unmeasuarable and worth 10 wins or some bs like that
  12. Oh...OK. Funny I saw that Cardinals joke site had a bunch of Cards fans saying how they wouldn't trade Yadi for Trout. And they were serious. He's not a winner, etc.
  13. I think I'd do Realmuto very quickly. Really, I think I could get behind the Archer one too. tough to move Keston of course, but no pitchers going out in it so I think I would. And it's a long term cost controlled move like Yelich.
  14. I see both sides and don't think it's a mistake either way. But I get them valuing multiple position flex over a guy who can only play one spot. Considering most days you'll already have at least one legit big bat on the bench. As said, we pull Ps early and look to use some multiple innings, so double switches are going to happen and you need flex. As much as I think Sogard is not an MLB player, I get the logic of having someone who can cover multiple spots. Just wish it was better than him Curious who gets sent down or DLd, I'm guessing it's Davies but we'll see soon enough
  15. I just don't see the rush when he's signed for 5 years already. No need to do it now imo. Re-assess in a couple years. You'll know more about him and if he gets hurt, you'll know more on the financial landscape after such a weird offseason, you'll know more about other contracts you'll have given out, etc. I just don't see the rush.
  16. That's a crazy stat considering how poorly they started with all the errors. ETA: I was reference the runs saved stat.
  17. I don't think it's a drastic mistake either way. Due to Knebel's last two games I probably give Hader one more batter and roll with that. If it's Knebel of last year, or even how he looked prior to 2 outs on Friday? night. Then I go Knebel. This season, I prefer Jeffress in a runners already on situation, but of course he was used. Actually, that could be something else to argue about. Why not Hader in 7th and 8th then Jeffress ninth? Off the top of my head I think Carpenter was the only lefty so not a clear time to use Hader for lefty stretch of lineup. I didn't really have an opinion on it, but when I saw Jeffress instead of Hader i was surprised.
  18. I see both ways. I probably give him one more batter though aftr a visit. just tell him to gas it, if they hit they hit it
  19. This is the type of crap you hear often when you watch other team's games. Why I never get when we see folks complain about BA/Rock etc. Brewers have been lucky with their announcers for years now. Heck, all WI sports teams really
  20. Don't get me wrong here, not trying to say Machado isn't a great player and that I'd love to have him. Plus being only 25 and all there's room for more. But prior to this year he's never been a ridiculous hitter, maybe this is the new norm for him, who knows. But look at his numbers prior and he's not absurd. Of course, still very good and power has shown up the last few years. But his career obp is .333. Last year he was 259/310.
  21. But we still need more than just him. There is no such thing as a "missing piece." We could trade for Kershaw, Machado and Harper and there's still a good chance we wouldn't win the World Series. Then why even try then He's just saying it's the nature and fluctuation of baseball. As in, even the clearly superior team still only win like 60% of the games. It's not like NBA where if you have an overwhelming team you're almost unbeatable. So it's tough to call any one player a missing piece because it's just not possible in baseball.
  22. Just saw this on CBS. I bet I was at least in my upper teens before I realized this too but I don't recall for sure. I really think it's the best logo in sports. https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/brewers-logo-starts-a-twitter-frenzy-after-people-realize-theres-a-hidden-message/
  23. Good point, with the off days coming up I'm surprised they didn't DL Davies. He said he was sore, great time to do it with 3 off days in the next week.
