  1. I mean, isn't the starters ERA only 10th in the NL and 20th in MLB? So yea it is a weakness, cudos to smart management in the building of the bullpen to make up for this weakness though. And for likely recognizing that the money it would cost for these guys wouldn't be worth it for the improvement they would give over the route they took. I'd still say there is a concern so many bullpen innings could wear these guys out later in the year. Personally, I don't think that will happen with how they're able to give a lot of days off due to the multiple inning stuff, but it's yet to be seen. Basically, sure would be nice if Anderson and/or Nelson when he's back go back to what they were last year where you can get that 7 or 8 inning sometimes to save the BP
  2. I was definitely one of the people who thought less of Brinson than the prospect rankings and general viewpoint here so I'm not surprised. I also wouldn't be surprised if Brinson busts out next year, hope he does, seems like a good kid. But at his age and injury history I was ready to cash out rather than have him have a bad year (like now) and/or get hurt again, at which point other teams would be looking at 25ish year old guy who still hasn't done anything in the bigs and his stock would plummet.
  3. Brewers have been playing the long game the whole time in building their team for the DH in the World Series rather than going in shorthanded like most NL teams, genius.
  4. I would guess they don't do anything and continue to ride/bank on the bullpen strategy they've been using so far. However, if they did something I'd rather pay in money rather than prospects so a guy like Hamels would be fine since I don't think you'd have to give up any prospects to eat that money. I know he's not what he was and I'm not exactly advocating for it, just saying I'd rather pay money than prospects and a guy like him falls in that category. I think I saw something a week or so back about him adding a pitch or changing something that has led to better results for him this year, so maybe his ok start to the year is sustainable.
  5. I think a key part that hasn't been really pointed out (yet shown in the pics there) is that he was out by a mile. There was literally no reason to still even be sliding. He basically started his slide after he was already out.
  6. Well said. Looking at it as simply as this, playing .500 ball the rest of the way is 88 wins. Basically anything above that locks you in the playoffs. So just barely above and we're in, very good place to be on 5/29.
  7. No, as I said there's gonna be little stuff here and there and of course I'm one to point them out here and there too. And I'll acknowledge as little things, not try to make some grand judgment. The .500 type lines is about how frequent this is on the board (not specific to you), like he's constantly under scrutiny as if he's doing terrible. ETA: my list of examples were things of significance that he's had the balls to do after you were saying he wouldn't know how to handle a tough decisions based on having a disucssion with your 10 year MVP vet instead of just doing it on his own with no communication. Specific to your post, you were trying to make some kind of larger grand judgment on his ability to make difficult decisions based on whether he batted a guy 5th or 3rd. And even though he did what you wanted, you still disapproved the manner in which he got to the decision. And specific to the Braun handling when he came back, he's done nothing that was ballyhooed on here as a likely problem. Hasn't played him every day, moved him down, Jeses still playing 1B. Yet you're still finding something to criticize him, even though he's doing what you want. ETA: good time to have 5 DH games to get everyone in the lineup. Though, I'm sure he'll still find a way to play PErez in the OF somehow, there's my little nitpicking.
  8. Yea I'd guess they just didn't think of it when changing the 2B rule, the same logic would apply here. It's just so rare they didn't get around to doing it. Basically, just make the 2B rule apply to all bases.
  9. Here we go again. Can't disagree with one thing without the dramatics of "you'd think we're below. 500" or "let's get behind him". "Whining" "Complaining" I never said Counsell wasn't doing great. I think he's a great manager, it does mean he is exempt from ever being critiqued. I hope he's here a long time. One can disagree with someone they like on something without it being a big flipping deal. I love my wife, it does not mean I agree with everything she does. You tried to make the argument or larger judgment that Counsell is incapable of making tough decisions based on something as little Braun bringing this up to him rather than him doing it on his own. And yea I'm the one overreacting.
  10. When they show the replay up the line Rizzo's body was sliding right toward the plate but he sort of hooks his legs out. I would totally agree that violates in the intent of the rule but I'm not sure if it violates the letter of the rule. Either way Rizzo should be drilled tomorrow and if they can figure out a way to do it, Maddon too. Why the hell was he arguing that the Pirates challenged and then arguing after the replay was in his favor? Saw MLB Network guys talking about this. The two ex players (Burnes and I don't remember teh other) were going on that it was clean and Kinney just couldn't believe it. I'm with Kinney all the way. Catcher has his back turned a full step inside the line and you kick your legs out and you drill him in the back of the legs, cmon. Their argument is that he should have stepped off the plate to the 1B side so it wouldn't happen, you know, except he was trying to throw the ball to first so that doesn't really work so well. They just kept coming with their old school 'this is baseball' and 'you're trying to win' arguments. I was surprised that people still look at something that dirty this way
  11. Counsel is doing great. Making tough moves? He just Arcia down. Last year things like putting down Guerra, Peralta. Pulled the plug on Villar last year, has now pulled it on Sogard twice. I mean, when Braun came back it was whining about how all he'll do is put him back in the 3 hole and braun will suck. Well, he does exactly what ya'll wanted and you're complaining about the manner in which he did it. Plus, Braun has been great. For all the nitpicking of Counsel on here you'd think we're below .500 and have some clear locker room issues rather than massively overachieving the last two years I think he's got the locker room fully on his side to do whatever he sees fit. Of course little stuff here or there that we might do different, but overall he's doing great. Let's get behind him
  12. because of those non true fans selling to them. I'd never do that because I'm a better fan. BTW I'm watching from my couch
  13. I'll take a couple badger mutual insurance runs so we don't have to sweat this one
  14. Ump was pretty rough that inning. I guess with it so hot it's not unexpected to extend the zone but some of those we clear balls
  15. Two things, again it is great to see Braun continuously putting team first in his mindset. Can’t knock him on that. The other is that it does seem silly that Counsell would have to approach him even though I get it’s probably more so out of respect. It's all about communication, that's good management. You don't just put the sheet on the door, talk to the guy first like a professional
  16. Yea i don't know how olbermann would even be qualified to judge him, as if he's watched any of our games so he's just being a hater. I haven't seen anything demonstrably terrible from Jesus on D this year. Seems about average or what you'd expect so far. I went into the year thinking he's below average as that is the scouting report, but he hasn't butchered anything and it's been a non story. All we can ask imo
  17. whew, hope he has that out of his system now. guys have bad games, he was good until two out the other night and today. Little blip on the radar
  18. really he's been well aided by the ump here. I think 3 that were bad calls in his favor or this could look different
  19. I'd guess Albers if they do anything. I hope someone is warming if he walks so if he walks one more you can go to him
  20. I'm confident Knebel will be fine and last game was a fluke. But overall I'd prefer to keep the strategy that has been working so great and just let JJ finish.
  21. Sogard game winning run in his first game back, just a gritty veteran presence who knows how to win. A true scrapper and winner. Plug him in at SS and in the 2 hole tomorrow
  22. huh? Sorry should've put in blue for sarcasm since not everyone might have read the stuff in last nights thread.
