  1. Right, even Santana's 'poor performance' has 30 points higher obp and is there anyone here that doesn't think he'd have double digit HRs if he'd play all year. Perez is a great utility guy but no one is getting pushed out for him as of now. The more likely scenario would be Scooter being gone and Perez going to 3B and Villar to 2B vs turning Perez into full time OF.
  2. Have to think attendance will be sparse for that series. If no one responds here, in general feel free to approach any random tailgate and just be nice and people will probably BS with you for a while. Probably be sure to have your own beers so you don't look like you're mooching, but overall people will be friendly and open to talking to someone new.
  3. One would think the Yanks have finally learned their lesson and will value their prospects instead of adding another expensive aging player. I agree they would probably take him, but my guess is they'd lowball and only do it if we were looking to give him away and they can keep all their newly acquired youthful pieces. As many have said that's why I'd just assume keep him. No one is going to give us what we perceive as even close to fair value. We have no need to dump money so might as well just keep him.
  4. He's also playing the most difficult position. You'd think he'd go up ratings significantly if playing 2B every day. Let's put it this way, many worse players have started for WS winning and contending teams in the history of baseball, including many in recent years. I'm not sure if some of you expect All Star or MVP level players at every position or what.
  5. Yes, I don't see any way he wouldn't be as it's not a trade. The cap ramifications mentioned do hinder some teams but if I would think the Dodgers letting him pass and hoping we just let him go. I think they'll clear Crawford this year and some other bad deals come off the books in coming seasons. And obviously they've shown previously to not care about the cap or tax. And any teams interested in trading could prefer to just claim him and see if we give him up, knowingly paying full money but without no prospects having to be traded. Issue is of course they have to make the decision's somewhat quickly.
  6. For the most part I'd say primary focus has to be acquiring as much pitching as possible at this point. good start with the two this week, but keep them coming in any future deals/drafts. Developing all of 1 pitcher during our last rebuild ended up being the overall downfall, if there was a steady pipeline of pitching the last several years they'd have been able to keep being competitive for a long time instead of just a few year window. And of course wouldn't have had to do the Lohse/Garza/Wolf type deals. As others mentioned elsewhere today a re-org of pitching development in the minors seems well overdue.
  7. Yes, I've thought of exactly that potential issue.
  8. There was an article on CBS mentioning Braun and waivers. The guy thought he'd be likely to clear because teams would be afraid the Brewers would let him go, didn't make any sense to me. Teams like the Dodgers, Giants, and others with tons of money should claim in a second and hope MKE just lets him walk. His contract is cheaper than anything they can sing in FA anytime soon.
  9. Which passes the eye test too. Gets a high amount of dribblers back to himself too. That comeback pitch on the low outside corner to righties is such a good pitch, was just thinking last night how it looks like Greg Maddux, who also got weak contacts and dribblers back to himself a lot.
  10. For the earning it aspect, you have to remember that defense is a big big part of the game of baseball and that is supposedly his biggest asset and seems completely ready from that perspective. By this logic that since he's merely hit ok that he didn't earn it, then Omar Visquel (and countless other defensive SS) never should have made it to the big leagues either.
  11. Villar is clearly the superior player especially if you put him at the easier position in 2B. Sure he's more raw and needs to be coached up on fundamentals still but plenty of time to clean those issues up at his age. With plenty of team control left I don't see the need to trade him anytime soon. Scooter is what he is right now and no room to improve really, and that's just a mediocre player that has almost no trade value to the league. Let him keep playing until another young guy is beating down the door for PT on the infield as he is competent. Then trade him for whatever lower level lotto tickets you can get since he can't be used in a utility role really at all.
  12. And last night he gets picked off at first. Then later when he gets on again he just keeps daring it and nearly gets picked off 4 times, it ended up working out but he could've been caught on any of those throws. I like him overall and want him around a while but at some point this has to be toned down a bit. Way too many pickoffs at first and way too many steals of 3rd with 2 outs. Clean that up and you have a decent balance.
  13. The more I think about the more I think Santana would be better to move to 1B when another OF spot is needed, assuming Santana is doing well of course. I didn't think he was anything better than mediocre out there this year. And like logan just said I think it's safer to have Braun in OF. Who knows, maybe the DH will be in after 2017 or 2018 though for Braun
  14. Haven't seen it yet. Does anyone have any knowledge of how much 3B Villar has played in the minors?
  15. Perez will simply play right. No way you bench Villar hitting 300/380 and leading the league in SBs. Guy just keeps hitting.
  16. Peralta did and was considered a very good prospect at the time.
  17. Also reports are that Santana is likely going for surgery and done for the year and we have no one competent to play OF. So Perez to right and Arcia up.
  18. Right, when I heard Brinson is going right to AAA it made me think they hope he's up to bigs some time next year. Assuming a Phillips promotion to AAA by end of this year or early next puts him on the cusp too. Based on their somewhat quick promotion of Arcia management might prefer letting young guys play in the bigs vs trotting out the Floreses of the world for much longer. And as fans I think we'd all prefer that too.
  19. While I obviously the potential future logjam. As of now the other two starting OFs are Niewenhies and Perez so two spots wide open to be had by young guys. These minor leaguers actually have to make it to the bigs first. Probably don't need to worry about this until after the 2017 season. You go in next year with Santana and Braun at the corners and the CF spot open to whatever young guy earns it, likely Phillips or Brinson. Some time next year Braun could get moved or Carter is gone after 2017 anyway, I think, so that frees up another spot. That said, you'd think they'll at least ask Braun to start some preliminary work at 1B to see how it goes. with all his injuries I actually think OF is probably less risky for him, there's more running but little bending/stretching/crouching. Maybe Santana could move easier than Braun, probably have them both start putting some time in on it and see who clicks better.
  20. 1) The Indians deal didn't include Jeffress. B) Just my opinion, but I think Mejia and Cheng are very under-rated. In a year or two I think you'll be seeing them very highly ranked on prospect lists. Right, if that trade goes through we could probably still have traded Jeffress for the Texas pitcher. Imagine that haul instead. Still, hoping the PTBNL is a legit prospect and then I'd call this a win-win for both sides.
  21. The PTBNL really does help imo. I like both players here but for those really pushing rankings here one has to think Brinson is dropping on those pretty soon if he doesn't start hitting. I like the players but just wished we would've gotten more with them and the PTBNL hopefully will alleviate that concern. Overall just glad to see two high ceiling pitchers come into the system today no matter how, of those and Hader we just need two to pan out as starters and we could be onto something. The biggest frustration to me wouldn't necessarily be with our GM/management, just in the market with how little people were willing to give for Lucroy. Especially when you see what teams are getting for the likes of Beltran, Rich hill, Redick, or even Smith. Our management isn't dumb, they took the best they could get, just crazy the 2nd best C in the world with his contract situation isn't valued more throughout the league.
  22. What makes you say this? Could not be farther from the truth. Did you even see our trade for lucroy to cleveland? We just got the #21 overall and #60 overall prospects (2 and 3 in Texas Farm) for lucroy and jeffress. We werent gonna get anything close to this for lucroy alone Logic being we got a 60ish guy in the C from Cleveland plus 3 others with it, so assuming the three others equalled the 21 ranked guy. Especially since he's currently hitting .233 in his second stint at AA.
  23. Wow, can't believe that's it. Should have been able to get this for Lucroy alone or just got the P straight up for Jeffress and kept Lucroy. Seems like we got fleeced as of now.
