  1. I'd probably just have him play out the contract next year, assuming there isn't an all out collapse to finish the year. I know that's not the norm, but what's he gonna do.
  2. Sure, I get the logic on Kwan and how much he fits and makes sense. But, man doesn't he feel a bit redundant with what so many of our other guys do? I'd like to actually address the power issue if a move of significance were to happen. He also fell off very hard to end last season.
  3. Where was there any condescension? I legit asked if you read it because you were comparing Mitchell directly to Soderstrum, and that is not the deal.. Think you might want to look in the mirror and reread both posts and ask yourself which one was condescending. You are arguing a whole different thing now regarding trade value. Go ahead and have that discussion if you want. I actually made posts more or less agreeing with what you said here, that we'd have to pay more so we probably won't do it. The point of this discussion was that Mitchell's money won't matter, that's it. If we want to talk about relax I'd again so to again look in the mirror and get a feel for the tone of this board. It is not this argumentative/attack style you're coming in hot with trying to pick a fight with people
  4. Did you read the proposal? Its not Mitchell straight up for Soderstrom. Mitchell is just a toss in flyer who can play at MLB at this point. The point is merely that the money this year has nothing to do with it. If OAK wouldn't want him its because of the injuries and/or that he doesn't have as many years of control left, so they'd choose someone else
  5. Yea but the guy you're talking about here will make barely above league min. Money wouldn't be an issue on Mitchell, it would be if they'd rather take a flyer on a different young guy than him due to the injuries, along with he has less team control than someone who hasn't debuted yet.
  6. As said, OAK has been at least trying to compete lately so I don't see them looking to move this guy. But yea, he does seem the type who would be worth ponying up significant prospects. Position and skill they need, while being young and controlled. Would all depend on their prospect demand and I'd guess it would be such an overpay that MKE says No
  7. Funny, they just had this discussion MLB network, almost as if pulled from this site. Matt Vasgersian pointing this one out.
  8. I'd like to find a way to add him without giving up Freddy. But, just adding to the scenario discussed here and comments along the line of 1 year of Freddy for them in terms of trade value. While of course yes that is technically true, If Bos were to make such a trade they would be factoring in planning on signing Freddy long term so getting him now allows them to get that done easier with exclusive rights. They kind of just did the same thing with Crochet. Will they do it again? IDK. Just saying that would likely be a part of the equation as to the "we're trading for Freddy for 1 year".
  9. Good deal for Jansen. If Contreras is again going to insist on playing virtually every day I'm perfectly fine spending league min on a catcher. Someone like Haase is adequate imo, but hey if there's a younger guy out there I'm all for it. Not like I'm saying Haase is awesome, but he knows the guys/pitchers/culture and has had his moments. Usually found a way to get on base or do something positive whenever he started. Basically if you're only playing 3 times a month why spend money on it. If Contreras gets hurt then yea you'd have to trade for a notch better or roll with the hotshot prospect.
  10. I get the logic and all that and who can't think Collins would come back to earth a bit. Still, he's a guy I'd have preferred to keep for depth since he's controlled for 4-5 more years for nothing, plus has at least some IF capabilities in a pinch. I like everything I see about Zerpa, fairly confident he's going to be a great contributor. But also surprised they had to give up Collins to do it. And for OF going forward, I'd say they are fine with "Depth". But, they are still missing a starter. For your 4-6th OFers Mitchell/Badoo/Perkins are perfectly good guys to have since we all know injuries will happen. They are cheap, play great D so they won't kill you. And while not good enough hitters to be a starter, for 2-3 weeks they're not godawful enough to kill you either. Hoping there is something coming for an actual starter and they're not once again hoping Mitchell can stay healthy.
  11. Yea didn't mean it as a blame. Just the luck of it all. They could've called countless plays on that 1st down, the one they happen to choose ended with this timeline. There's multiple other timelines that lead to them winning that game and possibly the SB. Once the play is called, throwing it up one on one seemed fine, though I don't recall seeing a wider view on other receivers to really know much. But one on one there was probably the right choice of where to go with the ball, even if you'd just done it and it was best CB.
  12. Think of the butterfly effect of choosing or calling the play to throw that bomb to Watson. You had just thrown one last possession, but decided to come back and try it again. If they don't do that, it changes the whole course of the season. There's a timeline where if they just do a basic run play that GB wins the Super Bowl. Instead, the season is as good as over and other teams SB odds are drastically increased
  13. Here we go again 🙄. Took a bit longer to come back than I thought, roughly June until Dec was a good break
  14. Yes, the after the fact trashing of Chryst era, including the recruiting ranks, is a bit overblown. And yea this years O was laughing stock level awful/incompetent. And even like I said on the OL, saying it didn't live up to what we hoped/expected is not saying it 'sucked". What the OL was from say 08-14ish never fully got there again. As pointed out, they had a passing game of Stave and one white WR for several of those years, and OL still just rolled over anyone that wasn't OSU. I could never fully figure out why it didn't fully click the second time around. I always had my armchair guesses if I wanted to try and nitpick, but those coaches know way more than I do. Perhaps really its just a change in football in general that with advances in D that just simply can't happen anymore.
  15. I sat next to a guy at a game who works at the main liquor store on university. He said the OL is basically drunks and party alot. Like one of them came in and bought cases of beer the night before the game level. Take that with a grain of salt of course. Could be backups and injured guys or just someone embellishing. Side note with Bostad mention. Not sure how many folks realize he is the OL coach at Indiana. Big dumb thing Chryst did was put him at LB coach once he became available. Not that he also didn't do well at that job, but the O just never fully got going and he should've been put there right away to try and get them back to how it was rolling before he left. Might've help things a bit or changed the trajectory a bit.
  16. Odd, we'll see the details as they come in. Bit of a head scratcher if it is an MLB contract. Also to note is that he's a Lefty batter. I thought a depth guy or a more reliable OF makes a lot of sense, but ideally would be RH and obviously better than him. Someone like the equivalent of Bader as he's bounced around the last few years ETA: just saw the other post saying he has an option. Makes more sense now. But still, would think RH would be more logical
  17. Talking Hou on MLB Network today. They seem to have a roster crunch of IFs due to getting Correa last year. So you have Walker/Paredes for one position, so they're likely going to move someone. I don't know how Paredes D checks out, but two years of Paredes for one year of Peralta could make some sense as a foundation. Fits our need assuming he can play 3B competently A problem is Hou knows the won't resign Peralta (they let all their pitchers go rather than give out big money to them) so its a true rental. And Paredes is a perfect in that park. If I'm them I'd rather look to move Walker to someone who missed out on Alonso. Heck maybe even the Mets. Walker at 2/40 is a better fit than Alonso at 5/150,
  18. And while Alonso isn't good at D or anything, he at least can play a position whereas Schwarber is essentially DH only. Kind of surprising Alonso isn't at least adequate at 1B.
  19. One could also argue 30 mil per year on a reliable 35/100 type guy is much better spent than 17 mil on a closer. Especially when Stearns is coming from a system that knows how to identify and pump out good bullpens for cheap. Also, think its clear Alonso did not want to leave so he probably gives them at least some discount on what he just got To your point, the crazy NY fans will have to see that money spent or the results coming in good pitching. IMO, 17 mil on a closer off a shaky year isn't efficient spending.
  20. Considering the deal Alonso ended up taking last year. Chances are teams would've been much better off signing him last year but they all held off due to the reasons we all know. So, after one more good year they now decide its ok to pay longer even though he's now a year older. Gotta love baseball. As some said though, chances are you can bank on 2-3 solid years on him so this one can't kill you too badly. Also, man Bal sure has mismanaged their situation of loaded with good young players they had just a couple years ago
  21. Based on how little starters and proven players get traded for nowadays, I'd also be on the side that you're not going to get enough back to make it worth trading him. Have to listen to offers but doubt there is one good enough. Plus, if you're 'going for it' by keeping/paying Woodruff/Peralta then you might as keep this guy at a really good contract. However, there is usually such an overpay on RP at the deadline that maybe an offer does come in that you can't turn down. Unless they really have injury concerns on him it really seems next year is the time to trade him. His salary will then be up to a problem point rather than steal he is now and it'll be his last year. Also, every year we and all contending teams trade for BP help at the deadline. So, we're gonna save 4 mil now to have money at the deadline so we can......look to acquire a guy just like Megill with that money. But only have him for two months
  22. We'll see. I've been told he's building a house here so must have some assurances. When I was told that I had a "what? he expects to be here more than 1-2 years? OK, I guess I appreciate the confidence". Jokes aside, if Fickell is getting another year he should too. Its not easy to take guys recruited for the spread and try to run a power system. Need progress next year though. Essentially Fickell's era comes down to this hire. And of course, its not ideal to fire OC and transition again in b2b years.
  23. And something like 17 of the ones in the first year were him just bringing his JMU players with him. And I think the QB transfer was from MAC. And then won 11 games in the B1G with them. What he did isn't as simple as "cuban gave money" like its being spun now. And I think he just brought his JMU coordinators with him too, not like they dumped money on some big name hires. A key part of all this is actually being able to coach and train the game of football. Really too bad we didn't identify this guy years ago.
  24. But all that is what makes him available and only 15 mil per year. Bellinger is likely going to be 3-4X total commitment than what Buxton is. But in general I'm in agreeance he shouldn't require "premium" prospects to acquire, especially since everyone knows MNs financial issue right now. So, someone might beat what I'd be willing to give up for him, so be it. But he is not going to be just a salary dump either. you'll have to give something. But mostly I was just going to add that in the last few posts talks of how you need to plan two people, plan for his absences and have depth for it, etc. Well, that is exactly what the Brewers are, we are probably the best team in baseball to hit that mark with how we value quality depth. Multiple ok 4th outfield types who play good D so when they fill in for 2-3 weeks they won't kill you. Perkins/Collins/Mitchell if healthy are perfect for that. Though probably fair to assume one would go back to MN in a trade. If a move like this were to happen the key is having him healthy for October. So IL stints or routine maintenance days should be planned. A guy like Perkins is kind of the perfect fit for that situation.
  25. Have they really not worn powder blues like this in games in recent years? I don't pay attention to this stuff, but we've been seeing versions of this sold for years now, so I guess I assumed at some point they wore them in games. If that's true, it does make sense to use them in games since they're one of the best sellers already so people like them. Give the people what they want. Just like when they finally caved and brought back the ball and glove logo, fans were choosing to wear it anyway because its so much better.
