  1. The most frustrating part on Chourio last year and so far this year on the chasing out of zone pitches is that during his rookie once he get on the hot streak from June-ish on he was not doing that. I remember saying the most impressive part was how he was taking his walks when he started getting pitched around a bit. Since then, its been the opposite
  2. Stearns gives us Peralta back for the stretch run for peanuts works for me.
  3. That's probably the reason. But I'd say when Miz starts is probably the ideal time to start Bauers in LF since so few balls get put in play and RHH will struggle to hit to left. DAy game tomorrow though, so you know Yeli was gonna sit tonight or tomorrow either way.
  4. With Houston continuing to scuffle there could be some options coming from them. I know Pena has been mentioned here already. But a past talked about person here to rehash could be Paredes. He's been perfectly fine/ok this year. My very quick look at D seems like hs' checking out as basically average/neutral this year at 3B. On a 1/9 deal with one year left of arby before FA. So he would seem to line up well with the window we need to fill in until the prospects are ready. Of course it all depends on what you'd have to give up to get him but he should be less than a Pena or bigger name. I'm not breaking the bank for any of our elite guys but he's one to kick the tires on. You'd probably look to re-flip him in the offseason since you won't wanna pay him like 13 mil next year, but you could carry that salary for one year if you don't think the youths are ready or he endears himself here.
  5. My guess is they would've come out way ahead on this trade if not for the injury. Yes, it will likely go down as an L or push now, but its tough to get too upset or put blame on bad injury luck. Can't win them all though, and generally speaking they excel at finding BP so they were more than likely on to something here.
  6. I hadn't even seen this as being on the radar anytime soon, good news. Also, good showing from Black to preserve hope in him when he's needed the rest of the year. Have to think with Mitchell's struggles there's a lot of Bauer's in LF field coming
  7. Yea he's basically near dfa level and just taking salary for them. If he requires any legit prospects like those two listed I would pass. Low level flyers or just don't bother with him. Not only has he sucked last year and this, but he's consistently hurt.
  8. And it overlooks that they went out to get those guys this offseason to block him. Its not like they were all already there creating a logjam you had to sort out. You willingly chose to get these guys this offseason to put in front of him because you didn't think he was good enough. Yea, after doing all that sure it then make sense to trade him because you've chosen to block him because you don't think he was good enough or that you were good enough to coach him up. That is different than a situation being described as 'they just had so much depth so no spot for him' like its being discussed. In general, Boston's management has made a ton of terrible moves since the last WS and so far this looks like another one. There's a reason their fans are starting chants to sell the team.
  9. Yes that's fine, fair, and generally true. But that's not the same argument as "they already so much depth so he was expendable" which is all folks like me are saying. Three of those guys were not already in their depth to start the offseason. They were lacking so much depth they needed to acquire 3 players at high cost while not realizing they had a guy sitting right there for league min if they assessed properly or had confidence in their development of him. But yea, your points on big market, urgency, lower risk, etc are all true as to why they would take such a route with vets instead of banking on him. In addition, there is a legit chance if he was in Bos he would not be performing anywhere near the level he has for MKE due to how well they do with coaching and development here. So in a way that also make Boston correct as there is a very legit chance he'd have kept floundering there. But that's kind of what we're getting at, its because of poor assessment or coaching they made this mistake moreso than that they already such great depth. I work with a Boson sports obsessed guy, and all year its basically been complaining about how awful their pitching outside of Crochet. Which have to take with a grain of salt because in spite of winning like 25 titles the last 30ish years they never stop being negative/pessimists. But of course then remind him how they gave us Priester/Harrison.
  10. I'm being serious. The point was "they had so much depth so he was expendable". Well, if they had so much depth then why did they need to trade for two and sign a starter if they had soooo much depth is a serious and logical response. They literally had to fill 3 rotation spots this offseason, thus not really a ton of depth already there. One of them spots could've been filled by this guy at league min. So after that, yea it comes down to them being very wrong in their assessment and ability to develop him.
  11. My guess is the gap between both sides is too much, however you have to have the discussion with the agent. And as much as we all think 'how can he not get hurt' he and his team have to factor that risk in as well so they will listen. I also wouldn't want all the later years to be team options or I probably wouldn't do it either, which might be dealbreaker from Miz's side. One thing you could have on our side is to ask Woody to chirp in his year that it's not the worst thing to lock up 100 mil when you can. But OTOH, we paid him solidly even while injured so maybe not the best example, like what happened to Jimmy Nelson. Can also point to Burnes who got lucky that he got hurt like 4 starts after getting paid, if that happened before that would've cost him a ton of money.
  12. Agree with Buxton as a target. But yes, the elite prospects like Fischer should not be included. With the strength of the Brewers farm they should be able to get it done without people at his level or better. If not, so be it
  13. Also, reminder Montas started game 2 of the playoffs. Yes, he didn't do great in it or anything but it speaks to the fact that it was a need thus it 'making sense'. Also, they did win the game.
  14. And that is with Busch and PCA generally being bad so far this year. Some of the other regulars are a notch above what you'd expect but nothing extremely fluky since they're all generally good hitters. Cubs are gonna be there all year. But their pitching has been destroyed by injuries, really not sure how their pitching can hold up all year without some good trades. And of course, I have no real idea on if they have unknown AAA guys with promise like we do every year
  15. Generally agree with your overall point on that its clear the long term plan on the left side of the IF. However, if they plan on competing this year I'd say there is still a need or possibility to add at least one person who can fill in at 3b/ss to finish the year at a competent/mediocre level. That's clear top need imo. I don't see them breaking the bank or anything but a cheap pick up to get basic competency to finish the year. Something like the equivalent of Canha/Santana pickups from a couple years ago, but who can play one of 3b/ss. Off the top of my head I don't know who that could be
  16. Houston with only one year left seems like a long shot and as said with Houston's history I'll be surprised if they punt on the season anytime soon. Similar level player who makes more sense would be Abrams in WAS. They've been a fun team so far and the O is doing well but there's no way they can hang in the standing long term. Has two years left after this so would be more worth legit prospects. I'm not sure how his D is checking out at SS but could easily shift to 3B next year or whenever Pratt is ready. Then of course look to trade him when has one year left.
  17. My best guess on that and others was that it was based on who they plan on PHing for when a lefty comes in later in the game and who they don't. My guess is Black is one they plan on the PH
  18. Wow that was a terrible decision to swing there. Can't have that out of one of your best
  19. I mean, wouldn't keeping guys like Bauers/Sanchez/Vaughn around a bit of being prepared for it? As much as a team with their budget can anyway. Just saying they kept one-two guys extra in this general roster space where I'd assume a team with their philosophy would much prefer position flexible people.
  20. If you say so, its spikes up to me. The foot that he spikes him with is held above the base in the air the whole time. The cut on the pants is basically at the knee. In addition he does slide past the bag, you know, because he started his slide way late in order to spike the guy and because his foot was in the air to spike the guy rather than hit the bag with the foot
  21. The three guys on MLB network had some comically bad takes on the incident. All saying how that was a good slide as if its still 1985. In today's baseball that is clearly wrong. They even went as far as to blame Hamilton for not getting out of the way since he should've known Contreras is crazy. I guess for the most part though, they did acknowledge a guy standing on top of the plate diving over the plate with his hands should know they're going to get hit a lot. I mean, the guy where's elbow pads and hand pads for a reason
  22. I wouldn't say the playing WBC that is the problem, as pointed out by so many, but rather how it was missed and he kept playing on it after it happened?
  23. In addition, keep in mind another 7ish years of inflation on those type of deals. I guess that should apply in general to this whole deal with it being so long, the numbers we are all accustomed to now will all be up 15-25% in another 7-10 years.
  24. Right, and the team gets the perk of 'controlling' them for an extra 2-3 years. Especially if the last year or two are team options and save a bunch of money vs the market in those last few years if the guy does pop. It kind of seems like a win-win making sense for both sides.
