  1. I'm not nearly as low on Yelich as portrayed here lately as its often an overreaction to hot/cold streaks we see over and over around here through the season. But, the season is long and is a mental grind and right now is as good of any time to have him hit the DL and take a break, recharge, then try to get ramped up by the playoffs. Everyone else is healthy right other than Frelick, so its a good time to go down and let the others split the DH days. If someone else gets hurts the day after its bad luck. But chances are that won't happen and if someone else does get hurt or also massively slumps in two weeks then boom bring him back. IDK, or maybe they do the have this on the radar and are waiting for Frelick to be back to do it. Dodgers do this stuff all the time to rest guys.
  2. i didn't get why they traded for the Houston guy to fill in for a bit rather than call him up. Was a weird dfa, but probably some discussion with his agent on letting him go where he has more of a chance
  3. In addition to the agent pressuring the seller, they make it known to other teams that he really doesn't want to go there. So as an impending FA with 400 mill at stake is he going to be all in and give it his all or find any reason to play it safe and take the year off. Its a factor to give up a haul for a disgruntled player and 'force' him to pitch for you when all he has to do is say his elbow is sore and he's done for the year. What sabathia did is rare. My guess from the bits that have gotten out there is boris applied a lot of pressure to everyone involved here and he has a ton of power.
  4. Tomorrow it might be a good idea to swing at pitches in the strike zone rather than the ones 5 feet away.
  5. Jeez the NL is loaded. It was already so much better. Now Cubs, Pads, Pirates, Phills all add lots more. Who would've thought we'd be longing to be in the AL
  6. I've thought Frelick could be a fit for Col for Senzatela. Huge OF good for slap hitter, good speed to play D in it. Gives them someone to have competency while they attempt to rebuild. We'll see if he's in on it somehow. No comment on value of what else would be needed on either side. Just in general
  7. And that is why so many of the people who generally on the FO side of not being aggressive side tend to think that way. There is essentially no move they can make that gets them off the 8-12ish percent chances. So it becomes very risky to potentially give up someone that could change their chances drastically a few years down the line. Skubal is essentially the only move that could shifted their odds significantly.
  8. Thought of it as someone was listing the OF prospects ahead of them. Keep in mind its often been noted that there is a big chance Pena ends up in the OF too. Maybe they believe that too
  9. Yea considering some of these other deals we've seen out there that seems a bit of an overpay. Generally like the guys they got but seems if paying that much they might've been able to do better. But at least none of the top top names. side note, I'd think something else comes that clears a bit of the AAA 40 man roster crunch of the next year or so. Think your wilkens/black types.
  10. Depends on definition of high leverage, but Romero is good enough to be the A team bullpen assuming he's his normal self when he's back. Been getting 30+ saves/holds for several years with 3ish or lower era. Not huge K numbers but he fits a clear need and can easily be a 6th/7th inning guy with a lead to reduce the need for Ashby
  11. I wish we'd tried to MOVE THE NEEDLE!!! the last 5ish years so that we currently would not have Uribe, Miz, Henderson, Chourio, Turang.
  12. Soooo, he's not available. And to me he would not move a needle. Our 8-10% chance would still be 8-10% chance
  13. I noted above too but that's not right. Last months is sub 3 with over 10k/9. he essentially had two blow up starts back to back late june first week of july (after his 9 inning shutout that probably pushed his arm) and besides that has been good all year. And at times much better than good
  14. of course depends on the cost, but on the surface this checks two big boxes they needed and really shouldn't cost them any of the top prospects we all feel a bit attached to. Wish Romero wasn't on the DL right now, but this is all about the playoffs and he's been very good for several years now. Note: May in the last month is sub 3.00 and above 10k/9. He's getting more removed from the injury so hopefully can get back to his original self. At the least should be able to eat innings and with our coaching/D there's a good chance he starts playoff games
  15. I keep seeing lines along the lines "what time better than now to go for it" type thing for the Brewers. Which I don't agree with at all, I think they think 2-3 years from now is a much much better time to go for it. Dodgers stars will be aging hard and the dead salaries have to start hurting at some point. Yelich will be off the books and hopefully enough of these prospects hit and will be cheap and pitchers like Miz are healthy. That said, as many of us predicted the return for Skubal was a fraction of the media bs put out there the last few months. And for what he went for, I think they probably should've done it. However, you're also hearing stuff that he wanted LA because he knows he's signing there anyway, so do you want to take on a kind of unhappy person not totally motivated to give it all for you, comes into the equation. I also only learned this weekend that besides the normal lack of revenue sharing in MLB with TV deals, the Dodgers get an even further exception to not share due to something put in by bankruptcy court when they got sold. And there is really nothing MLB can do about it because it was done by the courts. What a farce it all is. ETA: also Phillies will be as good as done in 2-3 years
  16. Caught the end of that too. They also noted the Yanks starters for the weekend are Cole and Fried. Hopefully they can get the sweep and we take care of business vs the awful Angels and stretch the lead back out
  17. My memory from STL days was Wacha was a heavy groundball pitcher due to sinker. Not sure if that was or is true anymore, but if so MKE should be a good fit for him. But yea, if we're giving legit prospects hopefully KC chips in some money to pay that down a bit for next year. That said 14 mil isn't far off mediocre competent starter pay these days, especially on a 1 year deal. Not ideal, but not absurd either.
  18. If the brewers don't win it all I think I prefer the Dodgers to win. Can only help leading into the CBA discussions to have them just bought 3 straight titles and like 4/6 or whatever it is. Second, I really don't have any problem with their actual players/team themselves. Its just the system.
  19. As much as the media pushes the narrative how MKE really should do this, go for it, this is their chance, etc the team being overlooked is Tampa. This might easily be their best window and the ideal year to do it. Huge luck to have the AL be such trash with Tor, Sea, Hous, etc all so underperforming and not being threats. Yanks are there but who knows what Judge can give them this year, if he's out or a shell of himself they don't really have much of a chance. This is the opening Tampa has been dreaming for, if anyone has the 'window' its them. They don't have to deal with LAD, Braves, Cubs, Phils even before the WS
  20. Sure, to a degree. It was said last year already he was the weakest at D of the group and very likely to go to the OF because of it, which is fine. But most importantly Turang is gone in a few years, that lines up very well for Pena who is 19 and still A. The questionable point being Turang's last year with some possible overlap, but there is a huge chance Turang is traded before that year since his arb will be so high and they should be able to get a huge haul for him. And for all we know the CBA could take a year off of control. That said, yea if you're getting the level of player that absolutely requires an elite prospect that he's the one who would have to go.
  21. the was some kind of talk on mlb network in the last day or so about how every team is constantly scrambling to have pitching/arms available. It was brought up due to a position player pitching some day or I think a manager just left someone in to eat like 11 runs They didn't get into it, and I don't think I've seen it brought up anywhere as part of the CBA but it really seems obvious to me that the evolution of pitching requires them to add another roster spot to MLB roster. Could be a bone to throw the players in the negotiations.
  22. yea hopefully Ashby's shakiness the last few weeks has made this too obvious to ignore. He needs to be moved down a peg and not be the kind of 7/8 inning man anymore. kind of get back to what he was
  23. I just meant that that were behind 3-0 right away. so to me sneaking out a victory late in a game like that is stealing. Its baseball, you're gonna lose around 40% of the games you play no matter how good you are
