  1. Considering both SS options on the roster are either bad or unproven hitters (plus he's LH while they're RH), it's not the worst depth move. I think most could agree on that. Now let's hope he's not what's banked on to start 125 games at 3B.
  2. Yea but we put JJ Watt in the NFL 8 years ago.
  3. Sounds like Bradford isn't picking today and I assume Berger is going to Rutgers. So at this point I'd guess they'll just have to look at who's still available after today and kind of restart the RB recruiting. Bradford is likely seeing where guys above him choose today and then hoping it frees up a spot for him. As a hypothetical, let's say a spot LSU was holding for a guy ranked #6 ends up picking Bama. Then he could go into that spot. Just using those schools as an example of the situation I'm talking about, not saying that's accurate. It really shouldn't be so difficult to get a top notch RB recruit here. BTW, Tigerdroppings is the best name of a college football site. LSU just gets it.
  4. Johnson picks UW over Nebraska. Two top level LB recruits from MN who pick UW over MN and Nebraska. AS usual, a loaded OL and LB class. Still waiting on a RB but it seems one of those guys is going to pick UW. And as usual, seriously lacking at CB and WR.
  5. With all the rule changes going into play this year it's a bit surprising to hear next to no chatter about the DH. I bring it up as it relates to 2021, Braun, and this 'logjam'. Seems like with so many changes going into place it would've been a good time to get that ball rolling.
  6. I've dabbled at times with Garcia in fantasy baseball the last few years so I've followed or been a bit familiar. He certainly can hit/produce, it's just that he always has a nagging injury of some sort going on. He should be on a maintenance schedule just like Braun and Cain, which helps this all make sense. If you can keep him healthy I think you're going to get plenty of production from him for this money. But with that type of maintenance and/or injuries he gets that 550 number isn't a lock, even without Braun next year. Another unknown guy for most that I've been forced to use at times was Cheslor Cuthbert from KC. By no means am I saying I 'want' this guy. But, if you look at his vs lefty splits he's solid there and you can probably get him for basically league min. He's RH so doesn't fit well as of now. But if a lefty 1B/3B guy is brought in then he could be scrap heap depth guy that makes sense and can platoon vs lefties at 3B.
  7. LOL yea. Glad it didn't accidently link to some of the other questionable stuff on my computer haha. Was meant to be about how a research group is saying the money making conferences should be separated with their own rules. Which I corrected in the original.
  8. Keep in mind that Braun is gone next year so this covers that as well. So this PT issue is gone at that point.
  9. Well a key move was also the Bauer trade, not just two FA signings. But as said, it's not like the Reds were brutal and you're trying to go from a 100 loss team to 90 wins. So this isn't like a Miami situation of a few years back when they went to the new stadium. This is taking a .500ish team and trying to pick up 10 more wins. Keep in mind their 75 wins (besides the pythagorean stuff mentioned) is hurt by being in such a brutal division thus costing them a few more wins getting to the .500ish area.
  10. On paper the Reds clearly have the best starters in the NL Central. They have a solid closer and at a couple other proven reliable pen guys. I feel like their offense took a step back last year and safe to assume prime Votto isn't coming back, OF looks a little weak as of now. But with them going for it as hard as they are now it wouldn't surprise me if they sign an OF, say Ozuna. I wouldn't rule them out for the division by any means next year, if they're overlooked and only the 4th favorite for the division there's probably a solid value bet to be made on them.
  11. The LF thing surprises me a lot. Remember a game last year Braun volunteered for RF due to a big left field wherever they were. So with a whole offseason you'd think he'd be fine with the move to right as well and it kind of just becomes a rotation among 1B/RF.
  12. Just saw this today, going right at what I said: https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/watchdog-group-commercialization-of-fbs-college-basketball-requires-restructuring-of-ncaa/ ETA: Fixed the wrong link
  13. Seems logical. I'd say Thames then him would be the expected pecking order of 1B only types. Wouldn't surprise me though if they try for a lefty who can play both 1B/3B, options seem very limited though as I said in a different post. I mean, Shaw would've made perfect sense if he didn't fall apart. I'd assume they're also doing what they can on trades to try and address the positions for a couple years.
  14. I was running through guys who can play both 1B/3B and bat lefty. Not a ton of options out there but it led me to Asdrubal Cabrera as seeming like the most logical right now. Switch hitter who can play any IF position, played a bunch of 3B last year. Main issue I see though is he's better as a righty hitter, but not a brutal drop or anything. He's old though so I bet he's holding out for a 2 year deal which would make me hesitate.
  15. One thing to note is I don't think I saw him mentioned on Twitter as graduating last weekend, which would have been 3.5 years for him. Some of the others were 3.5. I believe he has legit difficult majors or programs though so I'm sure it would've been tough. With how much he has talked about education you'd think he plans on graduating. Just saying there is a good chance he needs to another semester to finish that out. Not that this affects his decision to play or anything as he'd still be under scholarship next semester. But it would be easier to skip if he was signed to an agent and gone training in LA right now as opposed to being on campus.
  16. Braun was their 2nd best hitter last year. I don't think that's the case at all. Sure, he's down to 3rd now that Keston is up but this type of talk seems premature with how well he did last year. One of he and Garcia must be playing 1B (I assume Braun) quite a bit and they'll get a lefty to pair with them (Thames makes a lot of sense). Then you factor in the maintenance days for Braun, Cain should start getting maintenance, Garcia's injury history he could use it too, the lefty not playing vs lefties and you're going to find plenty of starts for everyone. Also, what are the chances Braun goes a whole year off the DL again like he just did? Not likely. Essentially, I'm just saying in MKE's situation it makes a ton of sense to have a legit good hitting guy in this rotation (as opposed to a Gamel) because there is plenty of PT and starts to go around once you add in 1B. Still, I was a bit surprised at the price. Would've guess less here, but it's not crazy or anything and such a short commitment.
  17. I haven't seen or heard any of that yet. Nothing has been mentioned of him skipping the bowl. I've also never heard anyone say a negative word about the kid in general. But, it would make a lot of sense for the team to ask him not to say anything for a while so that it doesn't affect sales or the fans negatively until later. IMO, if this was any game besides the playoff or RB I'd agree to skip, not worth the risk as a RB already with a ton of carries on his body. But, a showcase game like this against a top level D is a good chance for him to help prove/keep himself in the first 2/3 rounds. But, I totally get it if he'd skip and wouldn't blame him.
  18. Good one on Lester, forgot about that one. We talked about Greinke's current but thought not, yea he's still good but not worth that much and still has 2 years left at over 30 mil. But yea that's a close one that it's fair to count. You could also probably say Greinke's first big deal with Dodgers too, but he opted out. But his initial 6 year would've worked out there. Person I was talking to is a Sox fan so he consider Price's bad. Granted, he has the inherent Boston "woe is me" attitude in spite of the 20 titles that city has won lately. I try to remind him Price actually did well and contributed to a WS just two years ago. But overall I agree it's been bad, 4 years in and two of them were injured/bad. And there is 3 years and close 100 left on it, and the team is currently trying to salary dump him. Overall point seems solid though, these deals almost never work out. Signing your own guy for a healthy contract extension pre FA in his mid 20s seems solid. But big FA deals to SPs in their early 30s almost never work out. So maybe we shouldn't be too angry we can't sign these guys.
  19. I see no reason to think that turns into a player option. One year deal then team's choice on the 2nd. Two years of control if he does well as far as I can tell. If he flops you're only out the 18ish mil.
  20. Was just talking with some people and the topic came up of what big money FA starting pitching signings have actually worked out or been worth the money? I went through and struggled to come up with any in the last 15ish years other than Scherzer. We thought Sabathia's could count for the initial few years, but then he opted out and his extension went bad. So he's a gray area one. Other ones that have generally been fine would be Kershaw and Verlander, but those were signed with their own teams as younger players, not true FA deals. There has to be more, anyone else think of a few?
  21. Let's just say I'd have loved to get in on this at such a low cost. Sure, due to his age and recent injury there is risk, but that's why he's actually available to us to begin with. That's the market the Brewers have to play in, and essentially with only a 1 year commitment I don't see it as that risky since you can decline the 2nd year if he gets hurt.
  22. I actually took the Dirk comment as sarcasm as I thought that was so well known at this point. Memphis sitting tons of guys tonight. Bucks have a B2B tomorrow as well so it's feasible Giannis sits again tonight since Memphis is basically punting the game. Could play Giannis tomorrow and give someone else the night off.
  23. With this FA market right now I'm more on board with this route than before. Seems a very cost efficient way to fill both spots.
  24. Not a FA, but on the same topic. I saw a CBS mention today regarding LAA going for Kluber. Kluber is 1 year 17.5 mil with a team option of 18 mil for 2021. This contract, commitment, and timeline line up with exactly what we look for. Issue of course is how weak our system to trade from, but I can't imagine a team like the Angels have much to offer on the farm either. You'd hope they're at least trying on this guy.
  25. Not quite haha. That game was ridiculous, at one point up 56-28. Ersan being Ersan. Oh btw, how about that George Hill. What a trade and key it was that they kept him. As long as he's healthy he's the playoff insurance on Bledsoe's faults.
