  1. Speaking of concussions, it just popped into my head after seeing an article about Wentz today that Trevor Lawrence was basically laid out on the field in that game vs OSU. Came right back in and no one even talked about it again. Don't think he even went in the tent. Obviously with how well he played he must not have been too bad. But he took a direct shot to the head and was basically out on the field. Playoffs though, ran him right back out there for the W. I remember saying to my friends that I thought he'd be done for the game, boom OSU wins, instead being a big game he just went right back in and no one said anything.
  2. IF the Packers head back out to SF for a rematch with the 49ers, I think their best shot would be to spread them out while running a sugar huddle to limit them subbing personnel and hope Rodgers plays out of his mind - even if the Packers are best suited to a balanced offensive approach, I don't like how they match up with the 49ers front 7 in standard personnel formations. The best way to stifle a talented pass rush is to keep them on the field after they get winded. I don't think the Packers necessarily have enough talent in the receiving corps to rely on it all game long, but going to a 4-wide, 1 back look where Jones could occasionally motion out wide would be interesting to see. In their first matchup the Packers' D performed pretty well until they were gassed, because GB's offense couldn't do anything to even stay on the field. Definitely would need to bring a different game plan to Levi stadium to avoid history repeating itself. And quick passing game like the Pats do and what GB has done in the past when Rodgers is hurt and immobile. They can't handle that pass rush, have to get the ball out, quick 5-7 yds at a time, dumps to the RB, etc.
  3. I'm very skeptical of trusting Castellanos as your regular 3B. But, just adding to the conversation that next year Braun is likely gone which frees up lots of OF/1B starts for Castellanos. Or once an injury happens to any 1B/OF this season it allows him to play an easier spot and your utility guy like Sogard goes to 3b. Obviously DH could be here by the end of his contract as well. Just saying you could squint your eyes and find a way to make it work or justify it if the price tag isn't too brutal. I don't think this has much of a chance to happening here this offseason, essentially I think Garcia took the spot that potentially could've gone to Castellanos. Seems to me all the big money things they may have tried for ended up way out of range and went plan B as best they could. And I'd guess they're still exploring trade market for a 3B with Frazier sitting there if needed.
  4. He got several concussions in college. He really never got a chance in the NFL as the ACL ruined him. But that was also a thing lingering on him the whole time. But to imply as if he got teed off in the NFL isn't quite right, it might've ended up true but it just never got a chance to happen. Again, if not for the ACL I think he'd have had no problem getting open. He had top notch route running and shiftiness that you see with all the New England type guys and most slot types, but he was also taller and could go do deep. But yea with his concussion history who knows if he'd have taken a couple more bad ones how long he'd have lasted. Think back on that OSU game where he made a fool of a 1st RD CB for over 200 yds, last name Roby I think. Just torched him play after play. Also, I acknowledge I'm not too familiar with how things went after he left GB as far as more concussions or just in general. If he got more there then yea that was it for him. And yea, it's best he got out when he did.
  5. I still think if Abbrederis didn't tear his ACL he'd have hung around the NFL a long time and been a contributor. Also not sure if GB was the best fit for him. Obvious best spot being New England. But yea plenty of UW TEs have had long careers, WRs it's really only those two.
  6. Same reaction I had when I read it. It gave no info or details. Basically just saying, don't believe them, keep demanding them to do more. With no actual data supporting it as to why.
  7. Chances are Cephus will have a great combine showing as well. All the physical tools seem to be there. He's the type of kid that should benefit from how overvalued those types of things are now.
  8. Even as a big Sogard hater when we had him, let's not forget the guy was a sought after guy at last years deadline and played for a team that went further than we did last year. I'm skeptical that it wasn't a fluke last year but to automatically hate and act like the guy shouldn't see the field after what he did last year seems a bit too much.
  9. To me, you have to win the East or it's a disappointment/failure. If you lose to the LA teams it will also of course be disappointing(but not some huge failure or underachievement), but will not be some grand indictment on the roster or that they're not built for the playoffs, etc. The other teams are also really good and they'll be close series and neither team more than a slight favorite, ie, it can go either way. And the LA teams each have two top 10ish players combined on their teams, they're going to be tough to beat. One of which is probably the best player ever and still putting up a near triple double stat line at 35. And, even as someone who is an adamant 'don't wine about the refs' type of guy, after seeing last night it's tough not to think you're going to be up against the whistle in either series vs LA. I think the old conspiracy ways of reffing are gone, if they were still around I could totally see MKE getting the breaks vs LAL to have the Giannis taking the throne narrative but I don't think that exists anymore. Wes, great addition and great D on LBJ. That's gonna be huge vs either LA team. DDV is your definition of bball IQ. Brown could be a key contributor with his size/strength to defend the LA teams but has to clean up the mental stuff a bit to be trusted in games like that. Giannis, again, just amazing to watch. Overall, it's very tough to watch this team and think they will lose 4/7.
  10. I really don't get Cleveland. With the pitching they had and Lindor still signed I don't get why they're doing this now. Keep going for a couple years then slash when all these guys are due to get paid big. If they're looking to trade Lindor and Clevinger it doesn't make sense to want a win now piece that they're about to have to pay in Hader. I mean why try to half compete. It's like when we traded Lee for Mench. For the folks stomping about our owner being cheap, take a look at this situation and see how happy you'd be tearing down a legit contender. I'd be all in on getting Clevinger though. Unfortunately we don't have the prospects for it but I'd say pick anyone in the system. I guess we could include Urias now at least though as replacement for Lindor if they trade him. If we had to live with Arcia/Sogard at SS for a year in exchange for Clevinger I'd do it.
  11. Why would Thames want to come back to a team that non tendered him? Plenty of reasons. Their offer is still more than anyone else, he's comfortable there, has a home there, possibly kids in school there?, friends with the teammates, the park still suits him well, this team is the one that gave him a chance to get back to MLB to begin with, familiar with/likes the coaches, team is still a playoff contender, lots of PT available for RHP, it's still better than playing in Korea again, hold out too long for something better you might be left out and be on a minor league deal.
  12. So, if Max Muncy was available Oakland should just automatically not want him because they let him go in the past?
  13. Well I was running through options since this seems like the only spot left. Donaldson is a pipe dream. Here's what I think as a couple options not talked about much. Cabrera/Frazier: Talked about plenty already, so leaving out. Cesar Hernandez: Question is can he play 3B? Otherwise I actually think he'd be a really good under the radar signing that fits some skills we don't have. High BA type guy who puts ball in play. But, he does K a decent amount considering that and the stereotype you think of for smaller quick guys. Good baserunning. Just a solid player. CAn also shift to 2B late game and someone else go to 3B Now here's one most here will probably hate, but don't rule out considering we're the Brewers with no money, Jedd Gyorko: Had an absolutely brutal 2019 after 3 consistent and solid years before. From what i can tell he hurt his back and then never recovered, had other injuries during his rehab. But, a theme with other moves is finding undervalued guys hoping for bounce backs after poor 2018. He'd come super cheap. Is high contact low K guy, which we could use. Just turned 31, so not too old. For league min this might actually be a fairly solid move, if the medical stuff checks out. Really not a ton out there as FAs right now.
  14. Healy. Does he not have options or something that makes it for sure that he's on the roster?
  15. Smoak made $8M for a very, very mediocre year. I hope Stearns didn't go crazy like the Sogard contract and get Smoak for even 1/2 that amount. I can't see Healy and Sogard ever being the full time options at 3B. Spending money on Healy, Sogard, and Smoak just takes the money away from what he needs the most. Starting pitching and a thrdbaseman. It's still early, but the more Stearns piddles away money the less he has to actually sign a difference maker for 2020. The only "difference maker" available is Donaldson. And we're not give 4/100ish and that's just not going to happen. These signings should have no impact on the remaining guys they realistically could acquire at 3B.
  16. I hope they're not going in with the current roster at 3B. That's really the only spot left. I'd like to think they add another more proven or reliable bat there somehow. There seems to be some money available to do it, while also staying a good amount below last year's payroll. To either help make a profit and/or leave flex for in season moves if needed. I count 11 players almost for sure on MLB roster as position players. So still 2 spots available. Hopefully one of them can be a better 3B (otherwise it's probably Healy's spot) and then the other for Gamel and/or a rotating spot based on who's banged up. 2 Catchers IF: Smoak, Keston, Arcia, Urias, Sogard OF: Braun, Yeli, Cain, Garcia Which made me realize I think forcing 13 position players doesn't make sense. Seems there isn't enough starts to go around, especially for an AL team that doesn't need to sub. I think with the current way pitching is used it would help every team out to be able to keep one more P up. Basically, let it be a choice, something like 26 man roster, minimum of 12 on each side. Flex on the other 2. Note, sorry if I misinterpret the rule but my current understanding is it's a rule on 13 and 13.
  17. Well, that should be very much less needed this year with Garcia. "Should" of course being the operative word but you're 5 deep on better OF options ahead of Thames/Smoak
  18. More or less a wash on Thames. But, a couple mil less than Thames option was. Better at D. And is switch hitter. So, if Braun were to get hurt he can still play vs Lefties. If you have Thames and Braun gets hurt you're bringing up someone like Healy to play vs lefties. So, all in all I'd say it's a slight upgrade to Thames. Nothing drastic, but slight and at the very least I don't see how anyone can get too worked up about it.
  19. Smoak strikes out plenty. Sure, less than Thames but he does K like 24%
  20. Yea it's not for sure he rakes right away. But plenty of guys at his level of prospects and his stats in the minors have stepped in and done quite well. We saw it first hand last year. Obviously not a guarantee at all but considering we have nothing at 3B and two questions at SS right now I think you would easily find a spot for him to play. Again, nothing is for sure but if you're gambling there's no way you wouldn't bet on him to outhit our two current SS options. Also, it's bad for them to call this a rumor. This is speculation, that's it. I also think LAD says No to this deal. Don't need to go too deep on it as there's been multiple threads on Hader/Lux/Seger already.
  21. I mean, I have no idea how Anderson can be an F minus. It's just such a low cost low risk move that I don't know anyone can consider it that bad.
  22. LOL, I can't believe how much attention a simple misclick like that got. I fixed it rather quickly, your guys fault for looking at it haha. But hey, for Ads pics of southern Cali could be worse right? Yes I agree CB and WR all that are covered for now. But at CB they just could always use better athletes and should always be trying there that's our gap vs OSU. For WRs, those good WRs are all surprisingly getting close to gone and who knows on the guys after. Taylor is gone this year, maybe Cephus too. Davis took a big step back this year. Not trying to be negative as they've done great in all the spots we expect them too. So need the WRs coming and getting ready next year for when all these guys are gone in 2021. Overall, the areas we need to close the gap vs OSU were more of the same. Not sure what can be done on CB, but maybe some kind of all out blitz at those positions next year. Go for all the top guys you can and get in early, invest as much as you can in that spot and see what happens. Chances are you strike out, but give it a shot.
  23. Agree with the points about if he's here to be a backup and insurance on our unproven SSs then it's fine. If we're banking him on as the stater at 3B I'm a bit worried or skeptical. If it's him or Hernan I think it's worth the extra money to get a LH and someone who puts the ball in play. Sure, in this season Sogard could flop/injured and Perez do better. But at this point in time, if you had to pick which one you'd rather have you should pick Sogard. And I don't think that's really too debateable. So, if we're complaining that management won't spend money then we shouldn't also complain they spend money to upgrade a position.
  24. It could be possible that with all the money they freed up but having failed to sign the higher priced guys they wanted/hoped (say Moose, Donaldson, a better P) it now means they can spend more on moves like this as opposed to relying on 550K guys to cover this role. Essentially, since they're not going to have a big money signing they now don't have to pinch pennies on fringe moves. A month ago, every mil they could squeeze was needed. Now, they know they're not getting to 125 mil anyway as there is no one worthy of that kind of money. So 4.5 on him instead of 550K for Saladino 2.0 doesn't matter.
  25. Yes maybe a touch more than I'd have guessed he got. But in this market it is what it is. Plus, MKE seemingly can spend a bit more on fringe moves right now as it seems that 15ish mil deals aren't gonna happen. So, a logic along the lines of pay the extra mil for Sogard or get a guy like Saladino, hey might as well pay the extra mil as it's unlikely we're going to approach the salary of last year. Also, when comparing to Thames. First, he hasn't signed anywhere yet but good chance he signs for less than what the option was going to be. Second, when we had to decide on that option we didn't know what the overall market would be (higher than we thought) and we didn't know what other moves may or not make so wanted the flexibility. In hindsight, maybe they'd have just done it and been done with it. But they obviously can't predict the future. But overall, as someone who was never sold on him and wanted him down much quicker I'm still a bit skeptical his 2019 wasn't a fluke. But if they're playing with the same ball it should be fine and it's just 1 year.
