  1. I'd be very surprised if Stearns gives away Peralta for some lottery tickets. The Rangers have a good system and are in win now mode. If a trade gets done Stearns will get value back. Moreover, the Brewers are very familiar with the Rangers system after the Lucroy PTBNL deal last summer.
  2. No question. I'd be shocked if a pitcher isn't traded. The question is, which one. Currently in camp the Brewers have 7 starters for 5 spots: 1. Guerra 2. Davies 3. Peralta 4. Garza 5. Nelson 6. Anderson 7. Milone At AAA the Brewers have Hader, Wilkerson, Woodruff, Lopez, etc. Something has got to give. I'm guessing one starter is traded and the other becomes the long man out of the pen.
  3. With his $3 million salary. Yes.
  4. I'm re-posting "TheJumpAround's" post from the MLB forum. Tom‏ @Haudricourt 1m1 minute ago With Peralta staying back to pitch Thursday in AZ, he appeared lined up to be No. 3 #Brewers starter. We wait for the other starters. Tom‏ @Haudricourt 3m3 minutes ago So, all we got on #Brewers rotation is that Zach Davies is No. 2. Counsell said more news later today. Sounds like stuff going on. Looks like something is up. Not sure why Peralta would be staying back.
  5. That's probably about fair value. Though, I would rather focus on Martin or Palumbo as the Brewers' LHP depth is lacking much more so than 1B, which is an easier position to fill going forward. Thanks for the reply "And That." I guess a lot of this comes down to whether or not you believe in Thames, Aguilar, and Garrett Cooper. I'm not sold on any of them and would like to pick up a nice AAA 1B to go to Colorado Springs. Guzman fits that bill.
  6. I'm not sure. They are year to year. I doubt they could get a new facility built in 10 months so I can almost guarantee they are back at Maryvale in 2018. All bets are off beyond 2018. Below is all I could find on the Brewers lease: Maryvale Ballpark History Initially planned to be the anchor of a two team complex, Maryvale Baseball Park had to settle for one tenant after the White Sox ended up choosing to share a stadium in Tucson with the Diamondbacks. That meant the Brewers, lured away from nearby Chandler, would have the facility all to themselves. Built on 56 acres of land donated by prominent local developer John F. Long, the Brewers' complex cost about $23 million to build and was completed in less than a year. The ballpark was designed by Ellerbe Becket, the same architectural firm responsible for the Diamondbacks' Chase Field, which also opened in Phoenix in 1998. Owned and operated by the Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department, the Maryvale spring training complex features the main ballpark, five full practice fields and two half-sized practice fields. The Brewers began training here in 1998, which coincided with their move from the American to the National League. Of all the teams in the Cactus League the Brewers are considered the least stable, as they are the only team training in Arizona without a long-term lease. The original 15-year deal the Brewers signed to train in Maryvale expired after the 2012 spring season. The team is now essentially tethered to Maryvale on just a year-to-year basis, as the renewal agreement the Brewers signed with Phoenix in 2012 only committed them to the complex for 2013-14. From 2015 through 2022, the Brewers have a series of one-year options to stay in the only training grounds the team has ever had as a National League franchise. http://www.baseballpilgrimages.com/spring/maryvale.html
  7. Would a straight up deal for Ronald Guzman be too much to ask for?
  8. Attanasio addressed the issue briefly back in February. My guess is we will hear something by the end of 2017. Here it is in a nutshell: Attanasio suggested recent talk of a "potential solution" in Arizona, though he didn't specify which community the club was eyeing. "It's hard to handicap these things," Attanasio said. "We do have to bring these things to a conclusion at some point. Now with the player development focus we have, we've got to have upgraded facilities." One option is remaining at Maryvale but expanding the Major League clubhouse and offices. Or the Brewers could move. Reports in recent years have linked them to Peoria, Ariz., and to a tract of land in North Scottsdale near Bell Rd. and the Loop 101 freeway, but talks with those communities hit roadblocks. "[Arizona] is our leading contender," Attanasio said. "It's our first choice and our second choice. But at some point, we have to have facilities that we think are best in class for development purposes. That's going to take precedence." http://m.brewers.mlb.com/news/article/216403734/brewers-search-for-new-spring-training-hub/
  9. I was at the game in Tempe on Saturday. Thames is 5' 11' with cleats on. Just doesn't look like a first baseman. I came away a bit concerned with that signing.
  10. The Rangers have DFA'd Jenkins, so they have the following options. A. Return the player to the 40-man roster within 10 days from the date of designation B. Make one of the following 4 contractual moves: 1. Place the player on waivers (which can only be done within the first 7 days of the 10-day period) 2. Trade the player 3. Release the player 4. Outright the player from the 40-man roster into the Minor Leagues(can only happen to a player once in his career)
  11. He pitched well against the Brewers last year. http://host.madison.com/wsj/sports/baseball/professional/brewers-braves-starter-tyrell-jenkins-stymies-milwaukee/article_6686f230-fb27-5c23-a71c-2d3680f0af76.html
  12. Heres the Link.
  13. I have to disagree. Villar is an excellent sell high candidate. I agree that you are not going to get a king's ransom(top 25 prospect), but I think that at least one team would make a worth while offer and give 2 or 3 nice pieces. It would would absolutely kill me if Villar regresses in 2017 and is once again worth Cy Sneed. For good or for bad Villar reminds of a bit of Scott Podsednik.
  14. It's not really even worth getting bent out of shape over anymore, beyond ridiculous. I'm not sure why Counsell has such a great reputation with the fans, what has he really excelled at? As a manager how is he different than anyone else? Two best posts of the day. Santana sits while "Captain Kirk: and his .212 batting average plays...
  15. Thats what I'm hoping for..... fourth at worst.... If you are going to tank it, tank it big...
  16. No. If the Brewers are taking on Puig and his salary I'd want a Lucroyesque package. I would be OK with De Leon as the headliner but I would also want Verdugo and one other decent piece.
  17. I generally like Craig Counsell's managerial abilities. However, the Nieuwenhuis thing is making me want to puke. I just don't get it. At all.
