  1. Very happy to see that Stearns swallowed his pride and DFA'd this bum. Also glad to see Stearns swallowed his pride and is calling up Scahill who ripped Stearns at the end of spring training.
  2. I agree with this 100%. Bullpen help is not cheap. That's why the price was so high for Thornburg, Smith, and to an extent Jeffress. Sadly, IMHO the bullpen help will need to come from within. Maybe Hader(ala Andrew Miller), maybe Woodruff, maybe Jorge Lopez, maybe Kodi Meideros, maybe Luis Ortiz, etc.
  3. I cant see a Braun deal that doesn't involve both Beede and Arroyo. However, Arroyo has been called up to the big leagues and hit his first MLB home run the other night. I just don't see the Giants trying to compete yet trading him away. Makes no sense. I am highly doubtful a deal with the Giants gets done. IMHO if a Braun trade happens it will be the Rangers or the Astros. They both need him and have the prospects to make it happen.
  4. Hard to come up with one Stearns trade that hasn't made him look good. I guess Khris Davis but even that one isn't really that big of a deal. The Adam Lind deal was a bit surprising, but we wont be able to grade that one for at least a couple more years.
  5. +1. Sadly, I believe the rebuild will last until Opening Day 2019. The starting pitching to compete is just not there. The only way this changes is if Nelson, Peralta, and Anderson all develop into top of the rotation starters, which I dont see happening. As for Santana, he reminds me a bit of Nelson Cruz. Cruz struck out a ton and we traded him. Then, in Texas, he put things together and became a major home run force for them. I firmly believe Santana is a guy you give every opportunity to figure it out.
  6. The Brewers are rebuilding. Hopefully Santana and Broxton will be given every opportunity this year. If they both have terrible years I could see Phillips and Brinson replacing them in September or next April.
  7. The Brewers pitching is bad this year. That is why it will be yet another rebuilding year. We knew the pitching was not good at the start of the season and should not be surprised by it now. No reason to burn service time for Hader, Woodruff etc... The plan is to get another high draft pick and make trades at midseason.
  8. Lackey has always been a Grade A douche. Thames was garbage in Spring Training. Now he's hot. He's not going to put up a 1.4 OPS for the season so he will cool off. Probably somewhere between his horrible spring and this torrid 10 day hot streak. It would be really nice if he could hit .290 and put up a .900 OPS If a .263/.368/.404/.771 line is what he maintains while he's "garbage", then we have a very special player on our hands. I should clarify. Thames put up a .263 BA during spring training including a very slow start. During the season so far his BA is .405. Its all relative. With that said, I did not realize Thames had gotten his spring OBP up to .368. Thanks for pointing that out. In light of the .368 OBP his spring was not "garbage" but he was nowhere near where he is now.

  10. I can see how you feel that way. However, for me, it will be a relief as it will finally signal the end of the Melvin era. Braun cheated and quickly signed a fat contract. Then he got caught and lied to cover his arse. Then he got caught again. Braun did some good things for this franchise but I will be ecstatic to get rid the contract and hopefully bring back a few high level prospects.
  11. +1 on being confused with the call-up. Problem with your bad habits theory is that he wasn't hitting well despite bad habits. He was awful and got called up anyway. There is nothing about a .320 OBP with 77 strikeouts in 440 plate appearances at Colorado Springs that screams call-up.
  12. Braun and Knebel for Beede, Arroyo and Fabian, no salary heading to the Giants or equivalent cap number coming back? Yes, I'd do it. I agree with Adambr2. Beede only allowed 136 hits in 147.1 innings at AA last year. In addition, he only allowed 9 home runs and posted a 2.81 era. This suggests he has pretty nasty stuff and may end up a front line starter. I would do the deal if the Giants are picking up all of the salary.
  13. the brewers succeeded in outrighting blazek to the minor leagues. I guess this is what you get for speaking out against your boss. We will see what fate awaits Cravy and Scahill. Here is the writeup from MLBTR: The Brewers announced that right-hander Michael Blazek, who was designated for assignment last week when they claimed Nick Franklin off waivers, has cleared waivers and been sent outright to Triple-A. The 28-year-old righty turned in a disappointing 5.66 ERA in 41 1/3 innings with the Brewers last year, but he’d previously been a reliable piece of the Milwaukee bullpen. In 55 2/3 innings for the Brew Crew in 2015, Blazek registered an excellent 2.43 ERA with 7.6 K/9, 2.9 BB/9 and a 47.4 percent ground-ball rate. Blazek’s home-run, ground-ball and walk rates all went backward last season, but he did maintain a healthy 93 mph average on his velocity. Pitching in Triple-A Colorado Springs will hardly be a cakewalk, but he’ll look to get back on track in that hitter-friendly setting and work his way back into the Brewers’ big league plans.
  14. Excellent move. Franklin essentially replaces Scooter. I never liked Blazek, so whatever on that.
  15. I like him at 2B. I think he'll have a much better defensive year than last. And while it's not an error, it was definitely an easy turn that he just bobbled that allows Colorado to tie the game. And now he hesistates covering second and we are down. Villar is a mental midget. Hope he matures at some point. I'm not sad that he didn't want to sign an extension. I hope somebody we trade him and somebody overpays for him just like Gomez.
  16. No, cant say I have ever ripped my current employer publically and sounded stupid to any other possible future employers like that. This happens every spring to many players across MLB. Grow up Cravy. +1. Milone is a gascan. However, I don't see where Cravy gets the feeling he is entitled to pitch at the MLB level. He put up a terrible 6.39 ERA at AAA last year.
  17. I'm guessing one of the following: 1. Guerra, Anderson or Paratla dealt: This would explain why Milone was kept. 2. Perez, Shaw or Braun dealt.
  18. Nor did Jungmann imho. Watching Jungmann nibble today was painful.
  19. Cravy and Scahill cut. Jungmann makes team. Haudricourt confirming an outside move coming.
  20. Would not surprise me one bit. I attended Sundays game and watched him pitch. He got tattooed as usual. I sat down the right field line by the bullpen. After his start he came down that way sulking. The bullpen coach lit into him about throwing more off speed pitches. Instead of listening Garza gave it right back to the bullpen coach and the two went up the tunnel to the clubhouse. 5 minutes later the bullpen coach came back and Garza didnt. That said, just eating the 12mil would look really bad for the organization.
  21. Thames looked terrible this spring. I got to see him play at least 5 times. Bad plate discipline etc. That said, I think Aguilar is the backup plan if Thames continues to stink.
  22. Whats weird about all of this is that the Rangers were spotted scouting the Brewers minor league games. Could just be a coincidence. Could also mean a big deal in the works with multiple pieces going in both directions.
