  1. How much rest they get between their last regular season start and their NLDS start. You wouldn't want your planned #3 game starter having his last start next Thursday....that would be a crazy layoff. In theory you probably want your Game 1 guy on Friday, Game 2 guy on Saturday, and then Game 3 guy on Sunday (this being referred to next weekend). The first two guys get exactly a week between starts and then the third guy gets a week plus a day because of the off day in the NLDS.
  2. The voters see a name next to the stats. Burnes is going to lose that race 10/10 times to a guy like Max Scherzer. This would be an intense race if it was decided by computers. I think the human element make this a very hard race for Burnes to win. Scherzer has just closed the gap way too much and now leads most basic stats. While you can argue for Burnes with deeper stats like FIP, K/9, etc. that just is not going to win this award with a bunch of old dudes casting the votes. Can the voting end up a tie if they fell a certain way? That is how it should go. I am betting Burnes loses by a decent margin because he will get tacked with way more lower ranked votes and Scherzer will be essentially all first or second place votes.
  3. I am guessing they are more concerned setting up their postseason rotation at this point. If they continue to be absolutely terrible they could certainly flip it around. Of course for that to be a worry Peralta/Burnes/Woodruff probably sucked big time between now and then. I get we didn't score much in the Cardinals series, but I doubt we go through those three pitching again and we drop the ball 3/3 times offensively. By Friday I am guessing your concern is irrelevant. BUT even if that concern became worthy he would be on plenty of rest to start the Cardinals game if they wanted so I don't see a problem with how they are pitching them.
  4. The Cardinals are partnering with Adam Wainwright for their final 6 home games (they are donating to his charity...but lets just say close enough to the same thing)...so we can only hope this kind of thing repeats itself.
  5. Megill is coming off an extended lay off after a 3.0/6 run pounding from the Cardinals. He did throw 5 innings of 1 run ball against Milwaukee back on July 5th. However, he was generally pitching pretty good back then. Since the start of August a bit more inconsistent. For the out of town scoreboard Cardinals (J.A. Happ 6.02 ERA) at Cubs (Justin Steele 4.20 ERA) - 1:20 PM Cardinals (Jack Flaherty 3.08 ERA) at Cubs (Zach Davies 5.49 ERA) - 7:05 PM Surprised they have Flaherty going in the second game as he has not started a game in a month. Not sure who their piggyback pitcher is today. Potentially a real stressor on the Cardinals bullpen for the rest of the weekend. Doubleheader, Flaherty likely on a limited pitch count, and J.A. who is both terrible and hasn't throw 6 innings in over a month.
  6. Teams without winning records making the World Series starting in 2010: Red Sox 2018 - 5-5 record (108 wins overall) Mets 2015 - 5-5 record (90 wins overall) Giants 2014 - 4-6 record (88 wins overall) Red Sox 2013 - 5-5 record (97 wins overall) Giants 2012 - 5-5 record (94 wins overall) I went off the last ten games because that just seems like a good gauge on how you went into the postseason. Mind you I think yesterday was the first game in our last 10 games...so this script has barely begun to be written for 2021. I was kind of surprised there weren't more. Still, these teams make up 23% of World Series participants. It is notable that only one team since 2010 managed a losing record in their last 10 games and then went on to make the World Series. Additionally, I think the longest losing streak to end the year was 3 games. Now if you did this exercise for how the hottest teams do, yeah, you probably find some more success. But is that because they were hot or because they were just generally that great? I am guessing the later would be more why they made a run. Of course this only looks at the team making the World Series. If you expanded this to the NLCS I am sure there would be a lot more teams. If teams went flat into October I am guessing most expect them to get stomped right out of the gate and not even make the NLCS. That seems to be the big concern around here.
  7. I mean the team seemed like they were in a good mood in the dugout all game, Adames still seemed energetic pretending to catch a ball after it already bounced, Taylor sprinted down a ball after losing the lead. I keep seeing them 'letting their foot off the gas' or 'mentally not there' etc. Is there anything to actually make these statements somewhat legitimate or are we just trying to make a losing streak more than it is.
  8. Wasn't their a stomach bug going around? I remember Woodruff apparently having it and then he was shown in the dugout when he was suppose to start that day. I took stomach bug as like a virus, not food poisoning...but maybe that is what Woodruff had.
  9. Then don't. Why do we need to know this information. You slummed it showing up today, if things don't go your way, then you don't need to stick around, it's a choice. Huh? Huh? It almost like....that is what I said in my post? Why do I need to know your thoughts on what I do or don't do?
  10. People keep saying they took their foot off the gas and they literally didn't celebrate the postseason clinch. Sounds like they were pretty focused and it might just be....a slump.
  11. Looking ahead the Mets look to be throwing: Tylor Megill (4.57 ERA Rich Hill (3.87 ERA) Carlos Carrasco (5.24 ERA) Brewers will have Lauer/Burnes/Peralta.
  12. Lol, I am honestly surprised fans haven't started to boo Yelich. Are people just too sad and depressed?
  13. LOL great, I might have to log out of the forum for awhile if we lose. I don't really want to read to doomsday posts in every thread.
  14. There is no way they put JBJ on the roster for any reason related to his salary. I am pretty confident they are smart enough to not have that be any part of the consideration. If they put him on the roster, they want his baserunning and defense.
  15. I never thought there was any chance of a healthy Taylor not making the postseason roster. That was my thought too.
