  1. Kolton Wong is a nice complement bat in a line up. He really isn't that great of a hitter, but with his defense a nice 100 OPS+ would be nothing to sneeze at. The problem is on this team he is one of the top hitters. That really is not good.
  2. Smyly was terrible or didn't even play over a four year span and nearly 300 innings...yet somehow 26 innings in 2020 then made him worth $11mil. Not shockingly, that deal isn't working out at the moment.
  3. Well Vogelbach has been decent of late and that would be the one position you could toy with. If Vogelbach goes downhill again then they should probably consider doing something. Vogelbach had a low ceiling as it was, no point wasting a bunch of ABs to see if he can OPS .725 consistently.
  4. Drew Smyly has already given up 9 homers! I think he is using the old ball. Peralta, Woodruff, and Burnes account for 8 homers combined.
  5. I went to look up JBJ stats and the top article is a writer in Boston saying Red Sox fans should wish they still had him because he was a great 9 hole hitter. They believe this despite JBJ absolutely sucking so far this year and inferring if he was hitting 9th in the AL he wouldn't be so terrible. I am not sure I agree or even understand where the writer is going with this, I just thought it was interesting someone wished they had JBJ on their team right now. https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/mlb/mastrodonato-why-the-red-sox-should-be-missing-jackie-bradley-jr-right-now/ar-BB1gGw98?ocid=uxbndlbing
  6. Brewers will finally start dishing out promotions in June.
  7. Yeah, it’s unfortunate he was so awful that they couldn’t put him out there any longer. I believe we were looking ‘ok’ at 1B at the time as well. But yes, it would be great to have him back. This last series with the Cardinals just shows the difference between our teams when you look at the 1B and 3B situations. It’s sad. The saddest part is he had a .694 OPS and these are some guys who have taken a bulk of that 1B time lately. Justin Smoak - .642 OPS Logan Morrison - .494 OPS Keston Hiura - .513 Daniel Vogelbach - .678 OPS
  8. While some of it is pandemic related, a lot of it is also a few popular people hyping it up as an investment opportunity. Gary V has been trying to hype sports cards for years. Then someone else decided to remind people of old pokemon card value. The interest in the vintage stuff pushed those same people to try and gobble up new stuff to make an investment out of it. Once people hear it through the media or find out the stuff sells out like hotcakes people want in themselves making it a bigger craze than it really should. I remember when Kylie Jenner cosmetics first started. She basically used fake low quantities to make it sell out fast and have those special launches. It quickly made people think it was the greatest thing on earth and had to feel like they needed it since it sold out in 30 seconds. If it sells out in 30 seconds it has to be good, right? I remember making hundreds flipping the products in my spare time on eBay. My friends laughed at me for buying/selling women's cosmetics, but I didn't mind when I was selling the stuff for like 200% profit. That is probably what most of the card craze is, people wanting to flip it and then people suddenly think they need it more because it is hard to find. In reality most of the demand is people wanting to sell it to you on eBay for profit.
  9. Public transit masks should exist forever. I understand why that would never happen (not even sure I really would want that), but jeez I can't imagine how much illness spread that would reduce alone.
  10. The Crew was 2 for 31 w/RISP this last series with the Cards. 29th out of 30 MLB clubs w/RISP. I think that says it all. Yup, coming back down to earth. To start the season the offense wasn't that bad statistically speaking (runs scored), but that is because their RISP was really really high. On another note I find it somewhat maddening we dealt with a few poor years of Segura, finally got sick of that, and shipped him off to play Arcia. Then after 5+ years of one of the worst starting positional players in baseball we dealt for Urias to give him the job. Another guy who (in a small sample) didn't hit MLB pitching and looked like another light hitting SS. Even worse Urias doesn't even play good defense so he really needs to hit to be a solid starter. Statistically speaking I don't even think SS is as bad as it used to be to find a decent player. Since the boom of Dominican/Central American players a ton of elite bats are coming up that way. I could be wrong, but I don't think SS is even close to the hardest position to find 3+ WAR talent. Outside of OF it may be the easiest. I don't even think Grisham doing good bothers me the most. It is the fact, after all these years, Stearns finally picks a new SS and they aren't even good. I hope Urias figures it out before Stearns takes four years to find out he isn't good.
  11. Rodgers has honestly kept his speed pretty good for a 37 year old QB. He can still make a 20+ yard scamper or pick up first downs with his feet. A big deal compared to a Manning or Brady who was/is pretty much toast outside of the pocket.
  12. I don’t know why people keep talking about our OF like there was no room for Grisham. We literally went out and signed an iffy Avisail Garcia to a multi year contract that paid him over $10mil a year the same offseason we traded Grisham. We knew Braun was done after 2020 and we knew Cain was old. Then in 2021 we went out and signed a poor hitting OFer to another multi year deal that pay them $10mil+ a year. They could have and it would have been a totally logical option to keep Grisham. Do I get the concept of SS being a bigger “need”, yes. However, let’s not make it seem like we had nowhere to put Grisham. There was an empty OF spot for him.
  13. 2011 Team Runs against: 3.9 Runs for: 4.5 2021 Team Runs against: 4.0 Runs for:3.8 So the 2021 is worse both hitting and pitching. This doesn't even account that offense was higher back then and that pitching staff was still better than the one we have had so far in 2021. So while you knock on the 2011 pitching just remember, the 2011 gave up less runs on average.
  14. Neither. Which is easy because one didn't even make the world series and the other can't even post a positive run differential. The combination of 2011 though. This current team wouldn't even make the postseason and maybe not even a .500 record over 162 games.
  15. There is nothing normal about being outside, socially distanced, and being expected to wear a mask in your seat despite...being outside. Thankfully I have only witnessed it enforced one time in the three games I was at.
  16. The Padres already have 4 WAR from Grisham and got 1.5 WAR plus trade value from Davies. Urias and Lauer have combined for -0.3 WAR. I agree it is too early, but it has started so bad it would have to take one heck of a turn to make this trade closer at this rate. I will keep hoping Urias become a plus bat at SS, but until then...yikes, I really hope this doesn't end a giant fail all around for us. Especially when we could have really used a plus bat in our line up the last two years.
  17. Don't worry guys, Bradley Jr. will rebound in his second year like Garcia has. You just have to wait 162 games instead of 60 games this time.
  18. There are a few guys I find impossible not to root for in recent years, Eric Thames and Brent Suter. Eric Thames is the kind of guy you want around your clubhouse. I don't know what he can coach, but he should coach for us when he no longer plays.
  19. I think he would consider throwing Williams in a tie or lead situation. Probably not burning him during a potential loss though.
  20. I did too up until the last 150 games or so. I still think he has been above average. Maybe not as brilliant as 2018...but his pen, especially by September was like a cheatcode that year.
