  1. I think he was directing that to all the people on this forum saying he just hits against a bunch of scrub pitchers.
  2. The right handed hitting portion of a platoon is not very valuable. If that is the end result that’s pretty lackluster. When I say valuable I’m talking an actual above average starter, heck even solidly average. For him to be that he is going to need an average near .300 because he just won’t have the power to get to that mid .700 OPS without it. He has the in base skills (it looks like) so that is good. The SS position isn’t as weak as it once, you have to actually hit to be good these days. 14/25 qualified batters last year slugged .444 or higher. Urias didn’t even average that in the minors. I’m not saying he doesn’t have potential, he does...but it isn’t very inspiring from the looks of it. David Stearns has had the worst offensive player in baseball 2018-2020 on his team and can’t figure out how to upgrade that. He brought in someone this year and somehow they are arguably worse. From 2018-2020 the the next worst offensive player voluntarily ran out (aka isn’t playing due to a big contracts) is Freddy Galvis. Sadly, Galvis has been twice as valuable. Orlando Arcia: -54.8 Freddy Galvis: -27.8 I really hope Urias is the answer, but I surely hope we don’t plan to waste 3 years waiting for him to break out only to be a continuation of Orlando Arcia. I will give him the benefit of the doubt because he is young/inexperienced, but honestly it is hard for anyone to be worse than Arcia offensively.
  3. To panic I’d have to of really liked the trade in the first place. Only reason I didn’t hate it is because I was reserved to the fact they were going to kick Grisham out of town after his WC game blunder. I think Brewer fans overhyped the addition. So many were expecting him to be a huge asset from the start and thought his injury at the start of the year was going to be a huge detriment to our success. Not sure why he ever was viewed as such. The problem with Urias is the fact he has little power. Because of that he is a guy that needs to hit almost .300 to have any solid value. He has shown a little power here and there in the minors, but the MLB eye test tells me there isn’t much there realistically. Additionally he doesn’t excel defensively (he isn’t bad) and he doesn’t provide any extra value on the bases. You watch him and nothing is impressive. Kind of guy you hope is just average at everything to give himself value. His 2017 minor league stats are probably what you hope for. High AVG and OBP with enough SLG to keep the OPS decent. I was hoping we got the higher ceiling player, but I’m not as convinced watching Urias. I still think he can be a nice top of the order asset though as he matures. High .200s hitter with solid OBP skills certainly has its value. I still don’t overly miss Grisham...OF is such a more expendable position. We will see if he can actually be a consistent mid .800 player.
  4. Well he will be either a 1B or DH primarily next year. He would still get his fair share of OF playing time, but I doubt the OF is any different than Cain/Yelich/Garcia. If there is no DH it becomes a question of whether or not they want Braun defensively at 1B and if he will hit enough to be good there.
  5. Ideal 8 team postseason, to me, would be: OFF DAY - #5/#7 #6/#8 play a one game playoff (higher seed hosts). - #3 and #4 host the entire 3-game series OFF DAY (commence standard postseason schedule) - 5-game series with the #1 and #2 seeds, standard hosting format - 7 game LCS, standard hosting format - 7 game World Series, standard hosting format This set-up still leaves room for tiebreakers after the regular season, but they easily could do away with that. As it stands the #1/#2 seeds would get a double bye and idle for 6 days. While 6 days is a lot that is how long teams sit idle when they sweep a 7 game series in the postseason...and again it could be reduced to 4 days if one wanted. I also think they could easily reduce off days in the postseason a lot anyway. They play 18 games straight in the regular season and in the postseason there is constant off days. There is still huge motivation to be elite for a double bye, still motivation to be the other division winner, and the highest WC gets a bye. It eliminates the ability for a 3-game series with a #1/#2. It makes the postseason longer, but only 4 days by my count (added 3-game series and the off day prior to 'divisional round' that don't currently exist). If the sub .500 teams survives all the way to the divisional round and the #1 seed loses to them, sorry, you deserve to lose at that point. I still think the race to get into the postseason would be close/exciting, getting a Top 4/Top 2 seed would be huge, and the postseason would be jam packed with excitement with the 1-game/3-ganme series. I fully expect MLB to go with something similar to what they are doing this year and honestly...I think it sucks.
  6. Even $7-$8mil is expensive. Stearns dumped Thames to save like a million dollars. September 4th Braun had a .600 OPS and at .705 a few days ago. Braun could put up a respectable year, but a 37 year old with an extensive injury history isn’t exactly a slam dunk. Additionally without a DH he is a 1B/OFer with the bulk of that time at 1B where he is questionable defensively. I mean I’d bring him back, but he probably won’t be very cheap unless he just signs a contract for the buyout money ($4mil). Only way he does that though is if he has zero interest playing for anyone else.
  7. 2021 Ryan Braun decision will be an interesting one. If we had the DH it would be a bit more obvious...but currently that is not the case for next year. After a rough financial year $11mil is a hefty price for 37 year old Braun. Guessing that decision will ultimately come down to whether or not Attanasio wants to pony up an extra $11mil to keep Braun around. Which again...is probably a big expense to incur after this years financial disaster for the team.
  8. Bringing in Urias as competition for Arcia never really panned out. I'm hoping that next year, they just commit to Urias at ss and see what happens... I know that is wishful thinking, and it will never happen as long as Arcia is on the roster, but it would be nice. I’d put money on Luis Urias being the SS. Stearns made pretty critical comments about Arcia in the off season and he has been no better this year. I am betting Stearns dumps him vs. paying him the $4mil or so he is going to require in arbitration. Unfortunately Luis Urias has even less power along with lesser defense so unless he is hitting near .300 I am not he is really any better.
  9. How long are we going to trot out a sub .650 OPS shortstop? We are going on three years.
  10. Come back, read the thread, and expect that Brandon Woodruff was complete trash. Looks like a pretty good start to me. Not his fault his defense was crummy and the offense was nearly worthless. The Brewers fanbase loves to be so critical of any pitcher that has promise and has some good success...but then doesn’t develop into the next great thing. It’s like people are mad he is just a really good pitcher instead of Clayton Kershaw. Not his fault the Brewers have been terrible developing starters. Started the entire game and gave up 3 runs...rest of the team needs to show up.
  11. That was the greatest third out in the history of third outs.
  12. Sometimes I wonder if Hiura is trying to be bad defensively.
  13. ASSUMING they don’t do the seeding like this year, in my opinion, the expanded postseason will be the most brilliant idea baseball has had in a long time. Water down the regular season? The regular season is 162 games...it’s already hardly followed before September for most casual fans. I don’t see how it would effect interest at all. It would likely increase interest, attendance, bring some balance to baseball, increase spending overall, reduce teams chasing 100 losses, stop wanting to trade a decent player after 3 years for a small market, and exponentially increase the Brewers postseason births in our lifetimes. Making the postseason once a decade can maybe stop being a Top 10 franchise highlight. The only people that should hate such an idea are people cheering for a Dodgers/Yankees/Red Sox team because they almost make it every year anyway. Which really this increases their postseason births too, so hard to be too mad. Look I wish we could make it under the normal format more often, but we can’t. Give the high seeds a clear advantage, but this is just a great idea for the Brewers and baseball in general. It isn’t hard to build a good baseball team, but the way the system is set up you need 93 wins sometimes to make it. Teams shouldn’t be going 10+ years without seeing the postseason in baseball, it’s bad.
  14. I’m guessing the postseason wouldn’t be far off what it is now date wise. I don’t see snow posing a real threat. Denver would probably be the biggest concern if the postseason got any later, Minneapolis and Chicago could definitely be a bit chilly...but snow would not be of much concern. I live about as north as Minneapolis and snow is pretty unlikely, in a meaningful amount, before late November. A snow cancellation wouldn’t be any more different than a rain cancellation. Not like we are extending the postseason another month, weather seems to be a non issue in my opinion.
  15. I think going up 3-1 and losing in 7 games is better than getting throttled narrowly avoiding a sweep at the hands of the #5 seed when you are the best team in basketball. Considering the Bucks also choked as the #1 seed last year and are trying to get one of the best young players in the game to sign an extension...yikes. The 2010-2011 Bulls lost in the first round, as did the 06-07 Mavs. Those are the only showings worse than the Bucks this century for a #1 seed.
  16. Ian Happ is a former Top 10 pick, Top 20 prospect, career .838 OPS, and is 25. He is actually barely slugging more this year than last year. All his OPS improvement is OBP driven. That doesn’t seem very weird.

  19. Well there is zero chance the Mudcats change and virtually no chance the T-Rats change.
