  1. Going to take 3 singles to the OF wall to get him home. I don’t know why people are shocked we took him over Smoak. He is twice the player Smoak was...weight wise.
  2. I don't think he was ever in the running lane. Why is that not reviewable. Between the 1st base umpire and home plate. Can’t review.
  3. Players should really learn how to beat the shift in a spot like that. A runner on second and third and literally no one on the left side of the infield. Push a bunt, you score a run, and have a guy on 3rd/1st...kinda amazing. Heck push it hard enough and you score two on a bunt.
  4. Doesn’t matter, it is interference allowing the ball to skip away leading to a run. Whether he was safe or not means nothing.
  5. The fact you can’t review between the umpire and home is like...the dumbest thing in baseball. It makes zero sense. That flat out should be reviewable.
  6. What happened? He was on 1st base and a slow grounder was hit to second base...he proceeded to run into the tag play and then the throw made it to first for the double play on Hiura.
  7. A lot of it comes with authentication from them these days...I presume they are holding signings and they authentic it themselves. That’s probably how it goes for modern players. Some of the older stuff they may still be picking up second hand, thus it may be authenticated by some else. It’s a solid company though so they obviously only get legitimate authenticated items. No sketchy third party authentication.
  8. Surprised I haven't seen this mentioned, but Didi Gregorius is repping a .829 OPS with the Phillies. He took a 1 year deal with the Phillies. While Arcia hasn't been bad the .280 average or microscopic K rate for Gregorius would look nice on our squad. I can't recall the specific details of him going to the Phillies or if he would have even signed with us, but as much as Stearns loves 1 year deals he seemingly missed the boat on that one.
  9. Specific product? Take a look at some I boxing’s on YouTube...that gives a quick idea of what people realistically pull. It’s like gambling...most lose, some come out even, and some get something nice. Hit parade is iffy. Card ones and baseball ones are probably the most decent. The bat ones suck because they are ugly generic bats.
  10. Khris Davis tried to play first base once. It was so bad I don't think he was even allowed to play first base in a minor league game. In retrospect I do think it was a somewhat strange move not to try Braun at 1st base at that point. That would have still opened a spot for Santana and we wouldn't have trotted Chris Carter out to 1st base that year. Would have given us another year to see how Davis/Santana would do. Reality is I think Stearns hated the below average OF defense and sold high on Khris Davis. Jacob Nottingham and Bubba Derby were certainly not peanuts though. They were solid prospects. I think you are being generous calling the likes of Cooper/Choi/Grisham mashers. None of them have a ton of power. I wouldn't expect him to put a lot of value and high picks into corner masher either. Poor defense, lack of versatility, and those positions don't reap a lot of value when they produce (not at an elite level). Outside of 3rd base those corner spots aren't exactly premium positions.
  11. Quite A Few: Busch Stadium Citizens Bank Park Comercia Park Coors Field Minute Maid (this one has their logo style, but some cool additions) Oracle Park PNC Park T-Mobile Park (kinda slick even with the T-Mobile look) I went through them all and about 7-8 them are hideous. Basically the company logo and/or doesn't use team colors...and then the remainder aren't named after a company so they aren't applicable. So I would say about 50% of the ones corporately bought are actually pretty cool.
  12. What am I missing? Trying to save on the $1M buyout? Just looking at stats Vogelbach is nothing special. Okay seasons in the minors, but I don't think there was anything special stats-wise as it is the PCL. Pretty sure if no one takes on Smoak we have to pay that. Releasing him would effectively be declining the option.
  13. Great, Stearns already trying to get cheap garbage for next years team. Vogelbach has decent performance against RHP between 2018-2019...that's all that is attractive there. Looking at him his defense must just be atrocious.
  14. Should have made it secret stadium sauce color.
  15. Or this... Without argument this is the worst stadium/field name in the history of sports. After the deal was agreed upon Guaranteed Rate eventually designed their logo and sent it to the White Sox. As one would imagine the White Sox were mortified and tried convincing them to change the arrow to look like a Homeplate. The response they got back: "Deal with it. Just pretend it refers to Chris Sale’s ERA instead." We should be grateful they didn't put the word 'insurance' in there and the fact they took the Brewers colors for it.
  16. They have already been changing the signage since before past season started. As you would guess it’s being changed to mostly generic stuff that has no mention of the stadium name.
  17. Gives up the go-ahead run on a 0-2 strike and then hits Arcia on a 3-2 pitch. Not a good day on the mound for that guy.
  18. 0-2 strike to Sogard...why? Why even have it anywhere near the strike zone?
  19. Anyone else watching the pigeon race on the warning track behind home plate? Or is that just me?
  20. -Kyle Lewis was picked shortly after. He was also a college bat and he is doing pretty well these days. He was someone connected to us. -A.J. Puk is pretty solid and half the forum wanted him. -Manning and Quantrill went in the Top 10. -I could be wrong, but I believe we were connected to Whitley at the time. -Of course one of the guys we were close to picking (Blake Rutherford) has not done very well himself either. The success (mostly in the minors thus far) after our pick is pretty staggering honestly. Lots of top prospects and a few guys already doing well in the majors.
  21. Corey Ray was considered a raw college bat. Not as raw as some high school kid, but not a fly to the majors in a year like you would typically expect of a Top 5 draft pick out of college to do. He certainly wasn't considered a super high ceiling guy. I remember we were grilled over that pick pretty good because he didn't show that much power in college (that looked like it would translate to MLB) and he didn't really have the defense to stick in CF. Thus, he was labeled a tweener OFer. I also recall people really hating the fact over three years in college baseball he really didn't improve at all, something many thought was a red flag. I wouldn't call him a complete bust quite yet. 2018 looked promising when his power seemingly broke out...however that didn't stick in 2019. I thought 2020 would be his prove it year. I don't know if his lack of inclusion at any point this year is super telling. Unlikely he would be a replacement guy when Counsell will want someone more versatile. He looked bad in ST training though and last season was pretty ugly to boot. That homer '3and2' referenced in spring training was his only hit in spring training this year in 20 tries. He struck out in 50% of his PAs. That's pretty sad considering you don't typically face a lot of good pitchers in spring training, especially when you are a mid-game sub like Ray.
  22. 1) Monte Harrison is not a David Stearns draft pick. 2) Brice Turang is definitely a future MLB hitter in my opinion. He stands out at his age for the teams he has played on (he was just 19 last year). 3) Maybe it is time to pump the brakes on the Keston Hiura success story. He has some pretty big offensive warts that are certainly dragging him down....he is also a poor defender. Drafting an all bat no defense college hitter top ten isn't a legendary pick. Unless he hits like an All Star it turns out as an okay pick. The success and value of Keston Hiura is being elite with the bat. 4) It is way too early to really be drawing conclusions about Stearn's drafting success...outside of maybe Corey Ray being a massive failure. How you draft a college hitter #5 and somehow half a decade later they look like they shouldn't even be in AA let alone the majors is brutal. The pick was heavily critiqued after, posters/experts thought we should have gone with a flurry of different players, and most of those guys are either already having solid MLB success or elite prospects still. Sucks he blew it so bad on the biggest pick in his time here.
