  1. They didn’t want people using medical masks because they wanted them saved for healthcare workers. They also pleaded for people not to use cloth masks (or anything) either because: A) They believed it would give people a false sense of safety and be more reckless. B) They believed cloth masks were pretty much useless against COVID so there was no point.
  2. I know this was a point of topic in here at one point: 68% are making more than they did on unemployment than before 1/5 are making at least double what they were before. This was according to an institute in Chicago of some sort...I tried to go back and search the internet for the article, but thus couldn’t find it right away. It’s surprising, but not at the same time. Much of the job loss was part time or low wage work...so obviously it didn’t take much to do be making more than they were before.
  3. Manfred’s job is essentially to work for the owners...people can continue to blame Manfred, but he is really just a puppet to what owners want. One of Manfred’s main job is TV money and Trevor Bauer hits the nail on the head with what is going on. Owners only want to play so many games at prorated salaries and want the season to end so the playoff schedule doesn’t change. All about $$$$$ and especially postseason money. So basically the owners want to stall until what they want is the longest and best option to take. Thus, giving the players no option but to accept. It’s kinda of genius to be honest...terrible for the players and the fans though. As the turd show continues daily my willingness to keep my season tickets is growing less and less by the day. I invested a lot of money outside of that into baseball too...I’ve kind of enjoyed that lack of expense this year.
  4. I was going to put The Sandlot, but it’s pretty true how much it really isn’t a baseball movie. I can’t blame people for picking it though because the amount of decent baseball movies in recent memory is pretty not existent. 1. Bad News Bears 2. Moneyball 3. 42 I don’t think the old ones aged well and I didn’t grow up on them so I am not really into them. The way some cling to Major League etc. is like the infatuation with the 1982 Brewers. Everything since has been so much worse one must still cling to 40 year old memories. Your basically cheering for something relevant again just to put the old one to bed already.
  5. Well...it isn’t a terrible loose comparison for a somewhat raw college hitter. Good news is we drafted Mitchell #20 instead of #5. It’s not often you can draft a college hitter with as much potential as Mitchell at #20...so it’s pretty cool to get him into the system. Kind of reminded more of Monte Harrison (though Harrison was a HS guy). Pretty raw, huge power that doesn’t show up in game, and lots of tools. Sure, maybe high risk, but we are drafting at #20. Dude could totally flop and I’m not going to fault the team for rolling the dice that far into the first round.
  6. Traffic patterns? That’s far from reliable. Like any other theory of COVID-19 existing well before mid-December it is going to struggle holding water when the spike didn’t happen until mid-January. That’s just too much time between start and when the numbers started exploding. In a place like Wuhan that is just not very likely at all. The data collected is incredibly weak. They only focused on Wuhan, when they could have added other cities farther away in China for comparison. They only compared between 2018 and 2019. Anyone who has taken a basic statistics class knows drawing a conclusion from that is pretty questionable. I also saw an article that mentioned one of the hospitals included (that saw one of these spikes) was a children’s hospital. Children hospitalizations originally, and still are, really uncommon. A children’s hospital should not have seen a comparable spike in traffic when compared to a normal hospital. In the same article (The Guardian I believe) they mentioned how they were entering flu season there so a spike wouldn’t be that unheard of. In December some Wuhan school were shutdown over the flu. I’m not saying it is impossible, but it seems pretty far fetched. If the spike in traffic was that noticeable I’m thinking COVID-19 would have been a huge problem way sooner.
  7. Many will say it means nothing, but I think it may hint he is done playing baseball after this year regardless of what happens. If a 2020 season happens they may force all the players to quarantine at a specific location, thus he doesn’t need a big condo. He also probably would not have his family traveling from California all the time during the pandemic...so also doesn’t really need it. If he has some change of heart not that hard to rent a place for a year. I always figured he is simply playing out the contract and after it is done he can go be a dad full time. Even with a decent year I thought there was a good chance he would retire even if we picked up the option.
  8. Real Heroes 400 was up 38% on TV from the last race. It was a three-year high for their TV broadcasts outside of Daytona... You're pretty much making a straw man. This is less about MLB being a summer hero than it is about a sport that's already struggling, choosing not to take advantage of a tremendous opportunity. Pissing off their current fans should be a huge concern to them. That's not some minor detail, they can't afford to lose them. Well right...NASCAR is basically the only “sport” right now...so it is seeing a huge ratings jump. That won’t be the same for baseball if it starts up in July. Every other sport will be too. NHL and NBA would be starting up with playoffs right away or very soon after they start up. I think NHL plans on immediate playoffs of some sort. I’m just saying I’m not sure it is really a tremendous opportunity. Any increased interest is likely short lived, much like drive ins are seeing. Once things open up or next year all those people watching during quarantine won’t care. I just don’t think there is all that much to gain...something to lose? Maybe. Even NASCAR, you think people suddenly watch it during quarantine and a notable amount actually stick to it once things normalize? I really doubt that.
  9. The whole MLB being some kind of summer savior for the country is kind of overblown. NASCAR is back last I checked, guessing Golf isn’t far off from starting, I saw the NHL wants to restart in July, and I bet the NBA would want to be back ASAP too. If the MLB is starting up I imagine every other sports league would do the same if not soon after. MLB isn’t going to be the only sport on TV for months even if they owners/players shut up and agreed on something. The only thing they are doing is pissing off current fans, not missing out on some chance to make baseball the coolest thing in the country again.
  10. I think people would want an extra room in the house for a true office if they actually had to work from home that much. Feels like most families have that already though...either a spare room or a basement.
  11. Just watch this and pretend it is the 2005 homer.
  12. No, you haven't been denied anything that someone else has received. It's more than fair to question why the May tickets aren't being dealt with, but you're not being treated any differently than anyone else at this point. Pretty sure it has been previously stated in this thread, probably not even 2-3 pages back that people were calling and getting May refunds.
  13. Considering they were planning to move Braun back to RF it would be pretty major for the 2020 Brewers. He was notably brutal there compared to LF and I doubt he got better with age. It also keeps him a bit healthier, which lets be honest, he needs these days. I think it would be fairly beneficial for us compared to other NL teams. It would definitely help out some other teams too.
  14. That would be quite the troll job if true, as the GOP, who fought to end this stay at home order without offering a real alternative to control the virus is completely punting on leadership and is now saying that local officials should just figure it out on their own. https://www.jsonline.com/story/news/politics/2020/05/14/tony-evers-gop-lawmakers-meet-after-supreme-court-ruling-on-coronavirus-orders/5189390002/ There was an attorney that specializes in such laws/governances from Madison that said local governments could do it and I think most are on that same page. That being said whoever Kenosha County was getting guidance from told them to throw it away. Not sure who is right...but quite conflicting beliefs. EDIT: It seems many of the counties that aren’t enacting a stay at home order also believe they have no right to enforce such an order.
  15. Kenosha County quickly shot down their stay at home order after getting guidance that the Supreme Court ruling might apply to localities too...thus making theirs unlawful too.
  16. You guys are really struggling to grasp the fact it isn’t about making a phone call. It’s the fact the Brewers aren’t clear about their policy and not only that their policy is junk compared to what the ‘norm’ is across MLB for this. I don’t really care, but I’m not surprised people are irked by it. That certainly isn’t a feeling reserved to a few forum members either. People have been upset on every single social media over it.
  17. The $600 isn’t forever either. I think it only lasts through June or July...so I’m not sure it is really worth declining your job back for some short term gains. I know the proposed $3 trillion stimulus includes another extension of that $600, but I really really doubt that happens. Too many businesses will be opening up to feel that is necessary.
  18. How does this work exactly? Business says they are opening back up...are you allowed to say, nah and just keep collecting? Do you stop getting government assistance since it's open now? I really have no idea how any of the unemployment stuff works. I believe it is set up where the businesses are suppose to report you if you are offered your job back and decline. This of course specifically for the COVID furlough frenzy.
  19. Maybe it is just me, but legislation should have been working on something so the court ruling was irrelevant. It was kind of a given the court would rule in favor of dumping the order and Evers said he was willing to work with legislation if it got thrown out. Legislation likely comes to agreement on something, but now there is is a lapse of time between the order being shot down and whatever they decide taking into effect. They shouldn’t be scrambling now to figure something out. They have had weeks to prepare for this moment. Now all the idiots are piling into bars tonight.
  20. They will prioritize the vulnerable and elderly. I would get it as soon as I can for that reason...the elderly and vulnerable will have already tested it for me.
  21. So what? One county...or ten. If you are a problem stay shut down. It shouldn’t just be Milwaukee County though. Racine is bad, Kenosha is bad, and a good part of SE WI is a problem.
  22. Sure it could, but why? Is there really anything wrong with the current system? The later rounds of a draft are certainly not garbage filler exclusively. Countless HOFers, All Stars, and contributing players happen throughout the draft. I don’t see anything wrong with the current system. I’m not sure teams are ever really drafting guys knowing they will just be filler...it’s just most end up just being that. Intriguing guys go off the board throughout the Top 20 or even Top 30 rounds. The last 10 rounds can seem somewhat useless with teams drafting guys as an honor (Elite HS guys already committed to go to college, coaches sons, etc.), but teams are certainly still drafting MLB guys in the 30s. To me 40 rounds is a solid number.
  23. I find it comical the way the Brewers are doing it. The hassle and headache this is for all their employees is enormous. I would hate to be in their ticket office. Logical teams just gave automatic refunds for April and (many did) May too. They used common sense and their knowledge of the situation to see there was a 0% chance of baseball in May. Instead the Brewers only refunded April and now probably get endless calls after each May game passes of people wanting their money back. What do they tell people? Sorry, wait till the end of May and we do the same thing as April? They are making the entire thing as messy and difficult as possible, for what? To keep people’s money a tad longer? To hope as much of it as possible doesn’t get refunded? It is weird because it doesn’t seem worth the headache.
  24. Not in the Chicago area. Posted speed limit on the Edens is 55, I was doing 73 and people were blowing by me going 80+. People drive like idiots in and around Chicago during normal non pandemic times.
  25. This is actually really terrible for guys who “need to figure it out” in the minors. Can you imagine the sporadic playing time guys like that will get? It’s good in the short term ($$$), but long term many of those guys will be wishing they could have seen consistent game competition in 2020. No way they drop the requirements for pitchers needing to face so many batters etc...can you imagine how long games would take? You’d have 80 games of expanded rosters, no thanks.
