  1. Coan/Mertz is an easy decision this year...next year if Coan has a good 2019, oof.
  2. Didn't $90mil get put in by private funds? That quickly slashes your 4x figure to 2x and more like a $50mil up to the value (just a real rough guess). Certainly not that crazy anymore. He got Miller Park built while he owned the team to ensure it wouldn't go anywhere. I am sure at the time he knew he was going to sell it in the fairly short term future and made the move to get the stadium built. Also I don't think stadiums really have any dramatic effect on the value of big time pro sports teams. Since most teams don't even own the stadium I am not sure how much would even go into an evaluation anyway. Consider the fact if the Brewers left Milwaukee Miller Park has zero actual value, it is just a concrete dump almost entirely useless. The value would be in the land in all honesty and where it currently sits is not very valuable. So take 30% of that land value (Brewers stake in MP) and that is what Miller Park adds to value of the franchise.
  3. Really like our chance today. Do your thing Anderson...let them loft it into the air.
  4. Did they like ditch the fish behind home plate? Or do the fish not even want to attend a game there?
  5. Umm...........good lord have mercy on that ball.
  6. There are certain players on this team that should bring paper bags to wear at games...not saying names...but wow, what embarrassments they have become this year.
  7. They talk a lot. I think they make quite a few decision together.
  8. So like the third or fourth option, nice.
  9. Yah...but against a lefty? I’m taking him out.
  10. If we make the WC game we are going to be throwing so much crap at the wall the starter will hardly be meaningful. That’s just how this team is built. 2-3 innings max if we are trying to win a 1 game playoff. Lyles/Suter/Pom/Hader/Gio/etc. Whoever didn’t pitch 3+ the day before better be ready. No need for Suter to be stretched out. He ain’t pitching 4+ innings anyway.
  11. I'm not trying to say he is Eric Thames slow/unathletic...but he certainly isn't going to cover a ton of ground or make up for bad instincts with his speed. If we couldn't stand watching Khris Davis in the OF I would really hate to see Hiura out there. Any struggle in addition to his arm would nosedive his OF defense to scary territory. I guess I would rather take -2.5 WAR at 2B over moving him to the OF and getting -2.0 WAR because of less opportunities to screw up...just for example sake. I think he is more competent than a Ryan Braun who was a -3.0 WAR guy in just 113 games at 3B. I think he can improve, but I doubt it really ever gets great. I am hoping he can get to a Rickie Weeks level of defense at worst. Which would require a big reduction in errors as his range/arm aren't ever going to give him bonus points on defense. His double play turning has been a pleasant surprise on a positive note. I was expecting that to be worse than it is.
  12. His arm is at least as bad as Khris Davis'....I would guess worse, but it isn't like he makes OF type throws to really compare. Davis wasn't terrible in other aspects of defense so I would project Hiura to be even worse than Davis. If he looks like a Thames/Weeks out there he maybe be way worse. Davis was about -2.0 WAR in the OF for a full season...so Hiura may be around 2.5-3.0 in the red. But again, hard to know what he would do outside of his arm. Keston Hiura in all reality is a borderline DH playing the field...at least that is what he has shown ever since he started his pro career. He is not going to be any prettier in the OF so might as well stick him at the more premium position. He sucks defensively...but I think with his bat you can live with it. Hopefully he improves the glove more. I don't think he is the kind of guy you will hide in the OF. He isn't super athletic in the field, isn't all that fast, and as already mentioned his arm is pretty bad. Ryan Braun had some speed and a strong enough arm where he was going to be decent in the field. Braun types can be hidden...Hiura types not as much.
  13. Lets win this series and hopefully gain another game on the Cubs. It is September...time to start beating up on teams we should and not make it harder on ourselves when we do play tough opponents this month.
  14. Keston Hiura couldn’t give two rips about Bill Hall or him getting a retirement day. We are really stretching it at this point.
  15. Is it really any kind of advantage? That’s the problem I have with it. I think the impact is hardly meaningful...if any at all.
  16. Lately we have played meaningful games a ton in September: 2007 2008 2011 2012 2014 2017 2018 2019 That is about 62% of the last 13 years. Hard to complain considering how they were the few decades before.
  17. Who cares about cheers. In MLB I think the familiarity with the stadium and the sense of being in your home park means more than occasional cheers. Let’s not act like this is the NFL where fans will make it hard to hear your QB etc.
  18. They have...a shot. Gotta keep the pedal down. 2 games back isn’t bad, but 3+ is just not a great situation as we get deeper into September.
  19. Enormous series win, Brewers back in the thick of it at just 2 game back. They got back in it...but the run has to continue and they can’t afford to fall back 4+ games.
  20. #1 Because someone literally said it in this thread and it surely isn’t the first time someone has made the claim. #2 I was never, at any point, speaking for how voters typically vote. I’m very aware how they vote...and it certainly does not dock a guy for being on an elite team. However it is becoming more and more popular for people to say it should be that way. Docking a guy for being in a nine postseason team is questionable enough...docking a guy for his team being too good? Wowza
  21. 2006 not that great...2011 was a legit team. That being said, both are notably better than our horrendous roster.
  22. I don’t know when it became a trend to call a guy more valuable because he makes his team good and a guy isn’t as valuable because his team would be good without him...but, what? Who adds the most value to his team? Who? That is what should matter...maybe being in the postseason sways it for people past that. But outside of that? No, just no. Stop the madness that Bellinger should get docked because he takes a team from good to elite or whatever it is instead of sub .500 to .500. If Yelich adds 10 wins and Bellinger adds 11 Bellinger should win. Why does it matter that Yelich takes us from 75 to 85 and Bellinger takes his team from 100 to 111?
  23. Has that ever been done? It would be remarkable. No, 50/30 has never been done. That’s what he is shooting for realistically. I doubt he has 10 more steals in him...never know though.
