  1. Can’t imagine it would be a straight swap when it could potentially (heck I will go likely) a worse 7th for us. I'm shocked. What a change from your usually optimistic disposition. But here, try to imagine it. The Packers were going to cut McCray. In comes the Browns with their really poor OL and the Packers trade him for a conditional draft pick. You realize many of these trades result in no draft pick actually being exchanged? Anyway, this one is real simple. Cut a player or get something for it, especially when dealing with a front office where almost all the top executives were formerly of the Packers. We ended up getting something. Take your condescending garbage out to the curb on your nearest pick up date. Seriously dude? I never said it was for nothing or a dumb move. I said it didn’t make sense to be a straight swap when it was with a team that could very easily be better than us record wise. And pretty amazing to call that pessimistic when most people consider the Browns comparable talent wise and their schedule is insanely light. But sure call it pessimistic if you would like I guess. It’s like you are trying to explain something to me that I wasn’t even referring to. Literally all I was saying was it didn’t make sense to swap picks outright, there had to be something more to it. I hope you can have a better day.
  2. Greinke’s record at Miller Park is insane. At the surface he is 16-4, but an incredible amount of his no decisions are wins too. For instance the Brewers did not lose a single home start in 2011 he pitched and only a few in 2012. Pretty amazing considering his ERA is a great, but not insane 3.32 ERA.
  3. Are they a bad team because they're actually bad, or because a good Badger team dismantled them? Afterall, Vegas thought enough of USF to make the line close-ish, and there were posters here that had this one as a possible loss. I guess we won't know for several weeks, but is it not possible that USF looked like a bad team as a result of how well the Badgers played against them? Well I guess if you read the entirety of my post you would see I essentially would answer yes to both of your questions. I said both the Badgers were really good and USF appears to be pretty bad. The Vegas line is a big nothing burger as far as meaning something. That is like Top 25 rankings in college sports for the preseason. It is all based on assumptions and hype. Remember how Wisconsin was a CFP favorite last year...yah, that turned out about as far from the truth as possible. That USF team was massively hyped because of a D2 offensive genius they brought in. Week 1 can be real fluky. Wisconsin looked like a team that could be solidly in the Top 10...I don't know if I really want to get that bullish with expectations. The Michigan game is pretty much the pinnacle of their season. It is quite winnable being a home game. Win that game and a one or two loss year isn't crazy, thus Top 10. Unless you think they can win at OSU, but basically they need a split with those two to really have an elite season.
  4. Claiming Cain still has value if his defense is 2 WAR seems downright wrong. Zero offense and all defense players do not get paid $15mil+ a year. It is just not accurate to say we are still getting our money’s worth at that point. He needs to be average on offense for the defense to be meaningful.
  5. I somewhat expect him back. He has been real helpful for us over the years and I can’t imagine a team will offer him much on a major league deal, if that. Give him a nice $2mil or so base salary with incentives he will hit if he sticks around all year as a productive arm. I’d rather take a flyer on Jeffress to start off the season than other options...especially ones that can start in the minors.
  6. I am more concerned about the state of the food truck after this move.
  7. I am more concerned about the state of the food truck after this move.
  8. No, I most definitely did not. I slated them at 8-4 with a wiggle room of one game either way most likely. Someone did say (not sure if they flat out predicted it) they could miss a bowl game...or having a losing record. I did outline how that could happen. I did not predict it though. Not sure how bullish I will get after the first week. The Badgers played a terrible team. It was a team that lost 7 in a row to end the year in 2018 and were hyped up on some offensive genius from D2 taking over the offense. Became obvious real quick the hype did not match results. Blowing them out was still a good sign because they should destroy teams like that...but it isn’t like they dominated someone super relevant. How much to consider the struggles of other teams? Well...Nebraska was big in my eyes because they are a team that was getting hyped on potential...they sure didn’t show that. It was a stellar first week for the Badgers overall season prospects. Not sure you could ask for better results than what they got.

  10. I bet Mertz is way less bothered by not starting than any fan. Which is good because then he understands he isn’t good enough yet and needs to work harder. He seems like a smart kid that is patient and wants to keep working harder. He knows his time will come. I just think fans care more than he does.
  11. Yah, did you know that USF QB has had 6 different offensive coordinators in his career? Oh and did you know that USF QB has had 6 different offensive coordinators in his career? Last point I’d like to mention is did you know that USF QB has had 6 different offensive coordinators in his career?
  12. I thought Coan played well. He was accurate outside of the deep balls (which he really only threw two of) and made good decisions (outside of maybe the last second TD before half). If he plays like those every week he isn’t going to lose his job. MERTZ IS A FRESHMAN...one that clearly was outplayed in camp and wasn’t as good. If he can’t even play better than Coan in practice you are sadly mistaken if you think he can be anywhere near as good in a real game. The hype train needs to halt and not be critical of Coan’s every move. I don’t get being critical of Nelson either. Yes, he was sloppy early on, but he and the rest of the secondary settled down for the most part after that. It is a secondary that still features a freshman safety and a bunch of sophomores. The real problems: 1) The kicker. New kicker with zero experience missed a somewhat short field goal. No one will give a rip because the game was already a joke, but that that was a real bad start. They can’t afford to have a crummy kicker if they want to win close games against good schools. 2) O-Line. I’m not saying they were bad...but it was a very shaky performance. The announcer said some stat that we only had 18 rushing plays that went for a loss last year. I’m almost positive we had over half that before I turned the game off a tad into the 4th quarter. It may be partially Coan’s fault, but there were times USF looked like they were going to bring the house, did, and Coan just crumbled to the ground. Gotta figure out how to block or audible to a quick pass.
  13. Wish this was shocking, but thus, exactly as expected. Unfortunate tragedy. At least they aren’t trying to retire his number like the Marlins did before any details emerged on how he died. Then it came to light he was drunk and on cocaine. We will see if details emerge on why or how he got it...but not promising to say the least. Maybe he wasn’t using them to get high or whatever...a stretch, but I guess not impossible.
  14. Oh the Brewers already played, I missed it, and shockingly they lost. I wish they would give me a reason to care, they ain’t doing it though these days. *shrugs*
  15. Mentioning how young they are made me think and go back to check how many sacks from last year are from players returning...4.5 Sacks. 1 from Loudermilk, 1 for Henningsen, and 2.5 from Zack Braun. Yikes. Tackles for losses is a similar story. I get to some degree the positions these individuals played helped that pad stats in these categories...but one can't ignore replacing Edwards/Van Ginkel is going to be a lofty task. Zack Braun is a big deal for the defense just because he is the one productive holdover from last year. I guess the one positive is all that young talent got to play a ton last year so their experience is a little better than typical. Obviously you would like a bit more experience on the defense, but the offense is very experienced. 4 upperclassmen at WR, line is very experienced overall, Ferguson is a great TE, and obviously Taylor at RB. Outside of knocking potential QB problems the only other real concern might be RB depth I guess?
  16. It is almost impressive the defense wasn't worse on the scoreboard last year. I compared some 2017/2018 stats: 2017: For Loss: 90 Sacks: 42 INT: 20 Fumbles Forced: 12 6+ Sack Players: 3 2018: For Loss: 62 31% Drop Sacks: 18 57% Drop INT: 14 30% Drop Fumbles Forced:12 6+ Sack Players: ZERO And the culprit? Pretty much the D-Line as mentioned. A lot of sacks came from that D-Line and in 2018 you can pretty much see they did nothing. Van Ginkel accounted for nearly 33% of their sacks. Tackles for a loss also not a pretty sight. That is what gives me pause on the defense. It has lost a ton of pass rushing talent the last two years. Hopefully guys can step up this year and fill some of the lost void. Obviously the defensive line obviously needs to be a lot more physical past just getting to the QB.
  17. I'll be anxiously waiting to hear this story in the Random Thoughts thread or the What's Not Bugging You thread. Depends on how long they have been married. May need the “what’s bugging me thread”.
  18. The past means nothing, the future does. In baseball...a month, crapshoot. I agree, but also run differential is fairly predictive in baseball, and only 4 teams have ever made the playoffs in the modern era with a negative run differential, and the lowest was -22. The eye test says this is not a good team, and the negative run differential confirms that. With that said, they could rattle off a bunch of big wins and in turn whittle that differential down, just doesn't seem very likely. I agree it isn’t a good sign and this team is dismal, but the run differential only predict what they should have done (or about) in the past. The future may hold a entirely different run differential this a more promising record to match. Who knows, much like how our opponents will be playing when we face them. Tough opponents can be real easy if they are cold when you face them. I don’t think this team is really any worse than the one that had a great May-ish timeframe. I don’t think they make the postseason and I don’t think it will even be close (5+ games out)...but really, randomness of baseball could prove to give different results. It is somewhat predictive, but at the same time it is hard to even predict baseball.
  19. Sorry, this completely wrong. There are plenty of kinesiological studies out there that show the physical peak years of the male human athlete. Yep, Cain could be different, but saying there isn't a typical time of athletic peak and anticipated timeframe of decline isn't based in any sort of scientific fact. I did mention this, not sure if you saw after or before I stuck it in. Go look at any player and they rarely follow such averages...players are too unique individually. If they weren’t Cain would have been a bad signing from day one as he was already in his 32 season. When I say there is no rule of thumb I’m not saying there aren’t averages, but assuming a player will follow those on an individual basis should no be so fluid.
  20. There is no rule of thumb, there is no specific age a player declines at, and their is no specific decline pace. Every player is different and highly unpredictable. You can’t just use those averages on a player as so many factors can effect it. In reality I don’t think many players decline like that. Cain could bounce back and have a stellar year or he could literally be toast. There is no way to know that. He is one leg injury from his speed and defense being shattered. There just is no way to even guess what Cain will do next year. And while you can be optimistic unlikepy amy team would spend $50mil the next three years to find out if a 34 year old CFer can rebound.
  21. I’m excited to see how the defense fares. It’s hard to really gauge expectations on a defensive unit games get under way. I don’t want to say the defense was bad last year, but it certainly felt disappointing. We all like to talk about the offense, but the defense is what could really make this team special. Really hoping the secondary takes a step forward with some experience. And of course one can hope for a balanced offensive attack. The struggles at QB last year seemed to really kill the creativity of Chryst. It got painfully predictable on offense last year.
  22. The past means nothing, the future does. In baseball...a month, crapshoot.
  23. 34 next year. 35 the following year. 36 his last year. How ugly does that look? What are position player prime years? 25-29? 26-30? Now he has a thumb injury that could possibly affect him moving forward. Is it really any wonder why he’s regressing offensively? Abysmal, granted is a strong word, but his 74 ops+ coupled with his being the 2nd worst hitter with RISP, is why I used that word to describe his offense this year. I suppose he could rebound a little offensively, but at 34, what if the Speed and D starts a decline? I actually think prime years are like 27-32 or something like that. Regardless Cain is well beyond that timeframe. On another note Cain? League average on offense? Based on what? I guess possible, but are CFers that bad in MLB these days?
  24. 50 PAs is quite a few for a 3rd string catcher when they are still competing. I just can't imagine how he is getting that many PAs.
  25. Probably not only because we didn't give anything up and I think people saw the entire deadline as a joke not trying to actually improve. Hard to be that mad when a terrible pick up ends up terrible. Jordan Lyles: April: 2.42 ERA May: 3.68 ERA June: 6.00 ERA July: 11.12 ERA August: 2.86 ERA September: ----- It is...interesting to say the least.
