  1. LOL. ok. Sorry if that offends you? I am guessing most of those teams already have a few nice recruits at the position and/or a bunch of high end WRs to throw to. Wisconsin only has Ferguson and while they have a few intriguing WRs they are nothing like the athletes the elite teams trot out there. It’s no insult to Wisconsin, just the reality of why recruits don’t take offers from elite schools. I just think it’s a super misleading statement. He was the #14 ranked TE in his class and many of those top tier teams seem to gives offers out to half the US population.
  2. Translation he probably picked playing time.
  3. No matter the circumstance and how illogical it may be every time a former player is available someone has to ask if we should get them. We could have 5 Clayton Kershaw’s in our rotation and someone would ask if we should pick up Jake Odorizzi. Scooter Gennett is a 2B. His arm is probably worse than Khris Davis. He would have to hit a lot to put that kind of arm anywhere other than 2B
  4. You can forget about Rendon. We aren't giving him $30mil a year and you should be real glad we won't. That fixes one offensive hole, but means we will have a ton of black holes. SS and C for sure and likely one of CF/1B. Would also make it hard to improve the pitching spending that kind of cash on one player when we don't have a ton of payroll to play with as is. Nice dream, not too realistic.
  5. Much like Woodruff I think Houser is a pretty safe bet to be a quality rotation arm. Too good of a fastball and secondary pitches to not be. How good of one? Well, guess we will see how well he can locate and utilize his pitches.
  6. I think we lost more than a few "must win games" or "must get 2/3" series last year. Actually a think a handful of people called the division over going into the break...definitely a boatload when we could go down four games in September. I think the division was still out of reach when we were 2 out around a week to go. It makes a good title for an article or get people into the series/game...but it really isn't true.
  7. Did the same last year, didn't matter. I won't be shocked if he is the starter again next year...but only reason would be by default. No good options or spending all the money in other places. At least you get good defense from Arcia to help the pitching a bit. Having a terrible 5th starter or a trash can in the pen...well, nothing positive about that.
  8. If the game was tomorrow, Gio Gonzalez. It is a bullpen game, I like Gio as a guy to get those first 3-4 innings. I have a feeling Adrian Houser could probably prove himself to have that role in a month though.
  9. Zipper merging is one of the dumbest things ever. Why? Because it assumes that nearly every single driver is a good driver and thinks logically while doing so. As anyone who drives may know a lot of idiots are driving cars. You couldn't get 5 cars into a zipper without honking, swearing, fingers, or people cutting each other off blocking it. It does not work in reality. It also assumes everyone is on the same page, leaves ample room between cars, and most importantly...minimal lane changing and fairly consistent speeds across the board. Which I would say none of the above ever happens.
  10. I will go 21-11 or even 22-10. Why? A lot of teams with a dog in the fight. Odds one goes nuts is likely...either us or someone else. 86 would probably be the bare minimum. I agree with your original point though, waaaay too many people get into a specific series or against a specific opponent. 2/3 or 1/3 is not dramatically changing anything. That is a one game swing...not much. Now a sweep either way is a 3 game swing...now that, that is a ton.
  11. Well we can't get swept here and keep divisional title aspirations alive. That being said we are only 2 games out of the WC which isn't a terrible place to be. If we can get to September at that or better I like our chances to make a run. A sweep would have us only 1.5 out of first place (potentially/likely). We have great match-ups the next two days against struggling RHP before they turn it to Flaherty on Wednesday...who could be due for a stinker. I like our chances to win this series.
  12. Running up pitch counts is kind of pointless now. SP don't pitch deep in games anyway and when you get to the bullpen most of those guys have better stuff that the starter. I will kindly disagree. Not all teams operate that way and either way it helps chase a starter faster, especially an elite guy who can/will go deep if the pitch count is low. It can help tire a pitcher over the course of the current inning (if long) or over multiple innings if he is throwing a ton of pitches (~20 an inning or so). As far as the bullpen guys being better...well, very often times not the case. Especially in a situation where the starter exits fairly early. Hader doesn’t pitch the 5th or 6th for instance. Regardless it is most certainly better than a one pitch fly out/pop up/bunt force out. So it doesn’t change the fact a strikeout is not the worst play a batter can make.
  13. Another guy valuing his health over money. A beautiful sight.
  14. Braun has been a nice surprise in the second half and really all year considering his health. I’m not sure we can really count on that next year, but for this year he has held together. I hope he goes into the offseason and really tries hard to learn 1B. It would not only help us in 2020, but it could give us a stop gap 1B in 2021 if he has another good offensive year....MAYBE. I still kinda doubt they would give him $11mil as a 37 year old...but you never know. I’d guess the payroll will just not be able to sustain such a risk on a player that old. Of course if Braun really wants to come back I’m sure we could work out a lower deal if he doesn’t want to just retire at that point.

  17. Great to see Anderson bounce back after the rough start. He has been our most consistent guy and we dearly need more if that if we want to make a run.

  20. A strikeout is not the worst way to make an out. The worst way is a one pitch out. Probably a foul pop out to be specific. Only case this is not the case is if it advances a runner. Long AB strikeouts often times are better than the batter getting himself to first. Gets the pitchers pitch count up. For instance bases empty and two outs...10 pitch K is better than getting to first as the odds the players behind you are going to drive you in is incredibly low. In most cases I’d take the long AB strikeout over a one pitch ground ball single.
