  1. I'm pretty sure we haven't even had a complete game shutout in the time that Fiers has thrown 2 no hitters. 2017 Jimmy Nelson is the only complete game we have had in that timeframe. He gave up one (unearned) run thanks to Keon Broxton. The last CGSOs were Kyle Lohse (2) and Matt Garza (1) in 2014.
  2. I am not Because of this...It is just trying to save the program from a total short term collapse.
  3. That was a looooong time ago in baseball terms. It just isn't like that anymore. Especially since teams no longer get comp picks for rentals.
  4. I don't know about that. Having cautious optimism doesn't mean people aren't familiar with Hiura as a talent. Hiura is certainly doing everything a prospect of his caliber is expected to do at the AAA level, and his future appears extremely bright. But at the same time, it is so, so rare for a player to come up and immediately be a game-changing type hitter. Perhaps Hiura is one of those ultra rare talents. But yeah, this team has probably only had one or two of those types in its history. For the record ... I hope you are right, because that would be pretty dang terrific. At this point, if he ends up worse than Rickie Weeks, I'd be disappointed. He basically is Rickie Weeks circa 2005 right now (same caliber...slightly less power, Ks, and BBs, better contact). If his career clones Rickie's (but a bit healthier), I can't say I'd be happy, but I'd be foolish to not be satisfied. I mean I would be pretty happy. Pre injuries he was a solid 3+ WAR player. If you told me any player we had was going to put up 3+ WAR yearly I would be happy. I mean Weeks could have been even better minus the multiple wrist surgeries...who knows. Too many top prospects fail. Any time you can get a guy to be fringe AS caliber is pretty good. But I guess I don't view Hiura as a Braun/Fielder type prospect...if you do then maybe your standards are a bit higher. Now if you told me peak Hiura was going to last like 2-3 years....well that would be pretty disappointing.
  5. So Hiura is going to come up and be some stud for one series? The holy grail of prospects (Vlad) is currently hitting below the Mendoza line after 30 ABs. The team isn’t desperate for some spark. Bringing up Hiura for some random series seems like a circus that just isn’t needed. Patience on both Hiura and Shaw. It’s like a double overreaction going on in here. Look, I’m not happy with what Shaw is doing either...but Hiura coming up right now doesn’t seem like a logical move to me. The clock is starting to tick on Shaw though. Repping terrible stats in 150+ ABs will be getting a bit extensive.
  6. Problem is the bottom of the roster is a serious crunch. Shaw - Not going anywhere Perez - Versatile, not going anywhere Aguilar - No options, mashing lately Thames - Hitting well, pricey to just flat out drop There isn't anyone to drop to make room for Hiura. Hiura has zero versatility so it isn't like he could replace Perez. You can't dump Perez or there is no one else to play SS outside of Arcia. I really don't see Hiura up any time soon unless Shaw just continues to bomb it at the plate bad enough to get optioned. And given his track record of success that is not any time close. There just is nowhere to stick him on this roster. I would bet on Hiura never making an appearance before September over him getting the starting gig at 2B this season. He needs someone to get injured to get playing time on this team in my opinion. People may not like it, but Moustakas getting signed pretty much signaled Hiura was not going to be some major contributor on the 2019 Brewers as it really logjammed his spot.
  7. We don't want to spend on good players, why would we get some scrub for a salary dump price? That is why we got Gio...he was cheap and costed nothing in prospect capital. If we want to have crummy/iffy starter options we are loaded.
  8. Man I would give Shaw till June. Dude was pretty good for 2,000 ABs prior to this year. Guy has to turn it around sooner rather than later. I guess if it is still this bad in two weeks maybe you try something, but he isn't Arcia who has been pretty dreadful most of his career....Shaw has been real solid.
  9. 5 games in the first round is a huge need. Stop wasting time there. I don't mind lots of off days...but my gosh. Constant 2+ or 3+ OR even 4 days? That is insanity. It needs to be cut down closer to a month in my opinion. I don't care to follow playoffs for two months, especially when most of the match ups tend to be garbage anyway.
  10. Personally I am apart of the soft shell gang.
  11. The NBA Playoffs can take over 2 months. I’m laughing at how pathetic that is.
  12. It is much worse. I think it has to do with more random fans who don’t usually follow the Brewers showing up now that the team is good. They can’t judge anything. And then obviously a number of premature screams infects everyone else.
  13. Not saying the series is over, but a pretty crippling loss for the Celtics. Got the split on the road and get to go home for three games...but lost the first one. Pretty much pressures you in needing the next two. Because going back to Milwaukee and winning both seems too much to hope for. Especially coming off losing 2/3 at home (hypothetically).
  14. Just lost brain cells watching that Aguilar throw. I mean come on man. Is this tee ball?
  15. Nice of Woodruff to show promise as the other two young guys completely fell on their faces. At least we have something going for us.
  16. Only time he won't be safe is if Anderson and Nelson both get healthy. Then you could go Chacin/Davies/Gonzalez/Nelson/Anderson. Clearly Burnes isn't touching his spot and Peralta would probably be a goner if Anderson was healthy. So not much competition if you look somewhat competent.
  17. I mean every start is important, but Woodruff is fine. He has looked on in most of his starts, but just got shaky at specific times. That is much different than Burnes or Peralta who have mostly had horrid results and looked off most of the games they pitched.
  18. Who makes these schedules? The amount of off days is laughable. There is no momentum and by the time the next game happens in a series it feels like it has been a month.
  19. It was attempted...he was trash, obviously. Amazing his defense has only gotten worse with time. He never was that bad with us...certainly not great...but not needing to be a DH bad.
  20. Well that makes 1/3 and the other two are still stinking up the joint in the rotation. Though really I think Woodruff has been decent. Wonder if one of the other two will end up with a similar fate. Pretty sad this is how the pitching staff has done...
  21. Come on now...Grandal, Moustakas, Gamel, Thames, Guerra, Anderson, oh and that guy who just had one of the best Aprils in MLB history. I agree that many players are playing poorly and there are real problems on this team, especially pitching. But this is just too much. And most of those guys have had limited playing time...and aren’t major contributors. Thus most are real fluky. Grandal and Moustakas are probably pretty close to as advertised. Yah...most of the team has been disappointing and a good majority flat out embarrassments. The fact they have a positive record is amazing because they certainly haven’t played wel.
  22. We could complain about the umpire or we could hope for our guys to actually get hits and not pray for walks to get something done. These guys gotta do better at the plate.
  23. Today is good proof why it is almost impossible. You would need two guys to have absolute dominating games and basically be trouble free. First guy struggles and you go to the second guy...then he is in too early and a third guy at minimum will eventually be needed. Why would you be so insistent on using two guys when you usually have really good bullpen arms? It just doesn’t make a ton of sense and that is why in today’s game of going against the grain you still have normal starters. Can guys like Guerra go 3 innings? Sure, but planning to piggy back? No...other than if you know your main guy will be limited on a pitch count. You aren’t going to intentionally pair guys long term.
  24. I guess I am the only one not shocked he sent Guerra back out there...I don’t know...seemed expected to me.
