  1. Brewers suck at challenging and so do the Packers it seems.
  2. Rodgers is on fire today. Amazing catch too with one arm as his other arm was being held down.
  3. That being a catch is brutal....I mean really...
  4. I'd love to see the studies that support your opinion on that. The Brewers have a major pull from outside the Milwaukee area compared to what other teams do. That is totally true...especially come summer time. That’s because it is a easy drive and mostly stress free...and for the roof. No risk of rain allows people 2 hours away to comfortably come. Problem is at the same time the majority of that greater pull radius are still close enough where a hotel isn’t needed. Stevens Point, Oshkosh, Madison, Green Bay, Wis Dells, Beloit, etc. are all within travel distance. Everyone I know in these areas never spend the night in a hotel. All travel home. I’d say you’d have to be 2.5 hours or more to be in likely hotel stay range. Living in that area almost all these people go to Sunday games so they can drive there’s and back same day. Wisconsin people are pretty frugal especially in rural areas. They don’t like blowing money on hotels. Even the biggest fans I know up here go to max 3 games a year typically. They aren’t a big percentage of the fans on any given day.
  5. Heck, he is probably staying with Yelich these days. He had to evacuate his at one point.
  6. I don’t get how only two teams made serious offerers. It just does not make very much sense. I mean...two? The Marlins absolutely blew that trade. Did the GM give every team 60 seconds to call and he only had time to field two offers? What a fail. Incredible to get a guy who did not get a single vote last year to garnering 29/30 first place votes this year. I’m not sure how the rest of Yelichs time will go here, but considering the fact he was on the rise, proven stud, and controllable at a cheap cost this may end up the biggest trade robbery in MLB history.
  7. Christian Yelich is the MVP!!!
  8. Right, I thought it came up again not too terribly long ago semi-public. I think the Brewers would love to build up around Miller Park...but it just isn't worth the massive upfront investment with little potential to grow past their investment. There really isn't room to expand and it isn't like anything is ready to be bought and bulldozed. A lot of it is residential. We built in an area that doesn't have big economic growth potential.
  9. Brewers were predicted to win 77-86 (exceeding expectations by 10-19 games) Braves were predicted to win 72-80 (exceeding expectations by 10-18 games) Brewers division lived up to expectations and was very tough. Braves division fell apart, all teams other than the Braves would have finished 5 (or 6th) in the central. Voters just forgot about what teams were actually predicted to do, didn't consider the competition, and didn't know or pay attention to how games were actually managed. Maybe Baseball-Reference or Fangraphs can come up with a managerial WAR stat. So the players are responsible for expectations and the manager is responsible for anything over that? I mean I don't even know how to rate managers...there are so many variables and reasons a manager is good. It doesn't shock me someones opinion had Counsell outside the Top 3. This isn't like the MVP where finding the best and ranking them is much easier.
  10. I actually like the former logo a lot and their uniforms. Colorful...but that is Miami. Seems like they are shifting from daytime colors to Miami nightlife colors. I personally don't like the new color scheme or the logo. We will see how the uniforms look with it, but the logo as a standalone just looks off for a baseball logo. Like it should be on some MiLB team.
  11. Haven't the Brewers already done a analysis/research of a ballpark village or some other type of building up some stuff around Miller Park? Wasn't that deemed, "not worthy"? I recall someone mentioning it in a thread long ago.
  12. I don't see why it is hard to believe someone left off Counsell. You only get to vote for three guys, right? Thinking Counsell isn't Top 3 seems believable. Top manager is so subjective...most vote just on results vs. expectations. The rest vote for lovability. Actual moves isn't looked at unless you are a complete idiot...at which point you probably aren't running a winning team.
  13. In the end I could see a deal not including Hiura. But they would have to really really like Burnes, Peralta, or Woodruff. Then give them Ray or Turange plus one other good piece and you might be able to pull it off. They aren't going to get a huge big time prospect so they might be better off taking a slightly lesser top guy to get better #2 and #3 pieces.
  14. We came within one game of the World Series with Jhoulys Chacin and Wade Miley as our best starters. If there are actually people out there that voted against Counsell because of how he used his pitching staff, they are buffoons who should be stripped of their voting rights. Don't kill the messenger. And yes...most are buffoons. I am sure you knew that though. They prove it yearly.
  15. So it is okay to be a non-expert as long as you are for the idea and not against it? It was nice of you to have your non-expert opinion on who you thought was right though. Sorry, but that makes no sense. On another note I don' think the question is if it is profitable or not...the Brewers can make anything profitable if they want it to be. I think the problem lies in the fact it wouldn't be a huge money maker. They would have to pour millions into a project that isn't really moving the bottom line. Would it add to the experience? No, I don't think it really would that much. We are known for tailgating and most out of states fans enjoy taking part in such activity too. I don't buy into it being useful outside of the baseball season. Where is the next closest hotel outside of the Best Western? No where near Miller Park and for good reason...it is a terrible location. I bet the Best Western is only near Miller Park because of the hospital, likely it's main source of guests. The only bright side is the fact it would be stupidly cheap when the Brewers aren't there and it would end up really close to the highway. Very well could pull off travelers just wanting to stop for the night. Which is about the only people you will get because once again...it is by nothing. No food, no shopping, and no gas station. Not even basic amenities. I just think there are better ways to spend money and add to the experience more. I am glad to discover the Best Western from this thread though. I always assumed there wasn't a hotel within waking distance because that is what everyone says. The Best Western is only about .5 mile farther than walking to your car in the general parking lots.
  16. Kershaw is half way there at age 30, he'll break 300 wins. It took him 10 years (mostly insane/best of his time years) and he got...half way there. That is a good reason why he has little to no chance at 300. You have to be well over halfway there before your career is at the halfway point. Add in injuries and I don't know why you would think, confidently, he can get there.
  17. Agreed - I'm trying to recall whether any of the trades made over the past few years involved a Stearns draft pick, much less one of his 1st rounders...He's used the farm system's holdover prospects from Melvin's tenure as trade capital up until this point. There are still prospects of note, along with young and controllable MLB players Stearns could continue using for acquiring quality MLB talent - I see no reason for Stearns to start shipping out "his guys" this offseason. Hiura isn't going anywhere aside from AAA to Milwaukee over the next year. He traded his 2017 3rd rounder KJ Harrison. Not that it matters...he hasn't been around often so hard to draw conclusions. Not sure him not trading any of "his guys" in a bunch of minor trades means anything if he was going after someone major. The Yelich trade I think he traded the guys he did because they were so high risk and didn't have obvious paths onto our team.
  18. Wisconsin returned their entire team for the most part right? You kind of expect teams like that to do well early on because they are already used to each other. I think Wisconsin should be a tourney team this year, but I could easily see them missing. The B10 seems really week this year at the top so they won't have much of a shot at "statement wins". They are fine if they can win games against similar talented teams, which they did against Xavier already.
  19. I think what is often ignored in this type of situation is the lack of control at that cost. I think people assume, "Well if on the open market right now he would get $30mil~ yearly". So they see it as not that big of a discount. However, in FA you would be handing out 6+ years easily and assured some garbage years. If he was on the open market and was accepting a three year deal he would probably cost more like $40mil a year, not around $30mil. There is something to be said about the lack of control...which usually is a bad thing, but here isn't necessarily so.
  20. Meh, it will be there. They can always print money. The entire voting population (and even <18 kids) have paid into the system. You would make the entire voting population absolutely livid. I would like to see either party try to end SS. Even mentioning it would probably kill them in the following election. Of course one should never count on it because you can't live off of it...well you don't want to at least.
  21. If he was younger, I would strongly consider it....going on 33...that is some old years to be banking on. Not sure why one would think you could get him without a premium prospect (Hiura). That is three years of an ace who is still incredibly cheap for his performance. I get he is still pricey, but that chance to add an ace in such a way is like pigs flying. Expensive or not you have to pay up for such an opportunity.
  22. I don't get all the concern, SS should be enough. I am betting in the next 40 years the government makes a ton of sound financial/investment decisions and SS is better than ever.
  23. I am shocked you guys just figured out how dumb the COTY award can be. It is so tough to honestly vote on that. How on earth does one accurately quantify a managers meaningfulness? It is all about opinion and usually the guy who shocked the league wins it. I thought Counsell would have had a great chance after Game 163 falling in our favor...but obviously people are very opinionated about how we went about using pitchers etc. and I don't think that was very beneficial to us.
  24. Maybe if he wants a ST invite. I don't see us dropping a MLB deal on him guaranteed...which I think so other team does.
