  1. How much do you honestly care about money at 80+? If my medical bills overwhelm me at 80+ oh well if that is the argument.
  2. Pretty brutal if you ask me. Bad calls at the end of the game are just annoying. Wisconsin should be pretty happy they won this one. They played like crap most of the first half, shot like crud at the line all game, and NC State was playing amazing. You think of all that and you’d guess Wisconsin lost by 15.
  3. One consolation price of the struggles is the fact A) Higher draft pick and B) Easier schedule We won't have to play the Rams or Saints while, likely, the Bears play both. Instead we will play the Bucs or Cardinals for one of those games.
  4. Absolutely. However, with no disrespect intended, the opinion and evaluation of a MLB scout is going to carry a lot more weight with me than that of anyone here. Especially when there are so many oft repeated misconceptions stated here. Furthermore, he doesn't live on an island. He maintains many connections in the scouting world and his opinion is well-backed. Right, but I don't think one opinion carries much weight regardless when evaluating MLB talent. Especially when you, much like most of us, are pretty limited on knowledge of evaluating pitching. A lot of MLB talent evaluation is based on potential and predictive analysis. A lot of the top rated guys aren't there because of results...but what they are suppose to do in the future.
  5. Well only listen to one person all the time and you will soon find more failure than success. He can and probably has dozens of times in his life been stupidly wrong on a player. I also don't think people are haphazardly throwing him into trades. I don't think I would give that title to any player headlining a deal for Madison Bumgarner. Clearly everyone think highly of him. They just think he is the least likely to stick in the rotation.
  6. Right, the general percentages assume you want to live a similar lifestyle to before you retired...maybe slightly less of course as that is how it usually works. People should obviously sit down and think about what they are going to do in retirement. Still have their big house, luxury cars, travel, etc. Then they will have a better idea for their personal case. I know some people (rural Wisconsin) who will retire on some acreage and really not spend much money at all in retirement outside of the minimum. They are happy to just sit out on the porch and cut some wood. I think the general percentage can be a really useful tool for someone in their 20s or maybe early 30s who is likely too young to really know/think about what they want in retirement. That way you know you are on track for a solid retirement cushion, maybe too much, or still have time to adjust for more.
  7. Isn't the actual recommendation these days 15% not taking into consideration a potential employer match? That is only for retirement too most times I see that thrown around. Realistically you probably want to be saving an extra 5% for emergencies.
  8. He has been oft injured the last two years and his number have sharply declined (BB/9, K/9, FIP). Tempting and if this was three years ago and he had one year remaining I would offer up Peralta. That being said I am not confident he would be a difference maker ace at this stage nor am I confident he can be healthy. Too big of a risk for us.
  9. My parents were paying over $2,000 a year for cable. Being in a rural area may have aided to that, but $60 a month? What is that the entry deal? They cut the cord. The worst part was when the had to get a knee Internet package. The lowest possible speed was two times faster than their current plan and $10 cheaper a month. For the same price they were paying they could get 10x faster internet. What a scam. Have never and will never have cable. You can get a cheap streaming option that gives you most sports for a fraction of the cost if you need it.
  10. You would have to live and breath the FIRE concept to not only be successful (still requires investing luck), but to actually enjoy it. If someone does good for them, but I am guessing most don't. I just can't get behind something that requires me to pretty much have no spending money for 35 years of my life to make the years following that pretty much the same way. It isn't like at that saved money is going to be blown on your dreams then...its for basic living expenses if you stop working. A more effective method would be to find something you love and make it your career. Then you would never have to worry about suddenly not wanting to work or retiring early. I know, crazy concept right?
  11. Trading Rodgers would be a terrible idea. I’m not sure how many firsts it would even take. The biggest problem is you would have to get an impactful replacement right away. No FA will hold a candlestick to him and your odds of drafting a Pro Bowl QB are absolutely terrible. Most totally fail or are huge disappointments. You just can’t trade Rodgers. The odds such a move blows up in your face seems incredibly high. Better not draft the wrong QB if you trade him.
  12. I guess I don’t understand why on 3 & 9 Rodgers has to go for a homerun shot when someone jumps offsides. In that situation you’d think you would just go for the first down. If the pass is incomplete you get a 3 & 4...not exactly a high success rate opportunity there.
  13. The FIRE concept is pretty weak in my opinion. Living like you make $40k is a pretty crummy life all things considered. Not a whole lot you can do with that. Even looking past that the current success stories lucked into a crazy good stock market to build their wealth. Good luck have that happen to you. Lastly what happens when you hit “financial independence”? Financial independent if you want to live like you make $40k for the rest of your life? Yah, okay. Your life will be even worse paying for all that insurance out of pocket. If you have to count on the investments doing well to have an income so to speak that sounds risky. If you are independent by your 30s I’m thinking you lived a poor life and would have to continue to do so into your retirement. You would have to be a person who doesn’t need money in any sort of way to enjoy life. Guessing kids would also be a big N-O for this theory to work.
  14. The refs need to get their heads out of their back end this year. Utter lack of awareness when it comes to rules and seemingly sleeping during games. I’m the Wisconsin game a Wisconsin player dribbled it for a back court violation...but instead they called it tipped away from a player 10 feet away. The Marquette game a Louisville player shot a three pointer only for it to be called a two point shot despite being at least a foot behind the line. In the Kansas game a shot was called off and a goal tending wasn’t called despite the opposing player hanging on the rim when the ball was bouncing off the back board towards the rim. I’m not sure what the current review rules are, but it needs to be expanded somehow. I don’t want to go to the monitor all night, but jeez talk about a bunch of blind squirrels reffing sometimes.
  15. If you have to be protected in the offseason and are notably far away from the majors you are a prime candidate to be traded away. There is additional value in trading someone away we could potentially lose for nothing and it opens up a 40 man spot. As for us selecting anyone...I doubt it. We are trying to win games. We don't have space to waste.
  16. The guys covering the Brewers are not going to do a story shedding negative light on the organization.
  17. They beat Florida! I mean Florida really isn't that good, right? Wisconsin has played themselves into a nice opportunity today to get a huge win. That would be a nice win to put on your resume.
  18. Just for reference as I watch the BIG12 often and follow them closer...Oklahoma isn’t good at all. They were a popular pick to be last or second to last in the BIG12. Still a really good showing and Wisconsin is playing pretty darn as a team regardless of opponent. Oklahoma isn’t the most quality team though.
  19. It’s free money in the sense you would never say no to free money...there is no reason you should not be taking that match. It’s pretty unlikely you’d have a good enough job where you get such a benefit and just can’t afford it. You probably need to cut your costs in other places where you shouldn’t be spending money.
  20. What is a good card to build air/travel points? I’ve been looking to get a second card for stuff like that now that my Discover is a little less lucrative out of school as far as perks go.
  21. It is a little scary when I see someone open up their wallet and they have 12+ credit cards. I mean I wouldn't even want to try and keep track of that on a consistent basis. Credit cards are great if you use them properly though. Actually I don't even use my debit card at all...all my expenses go onto my credit card, which I currently choose to have just one of. I know when the debt calculation gets pulled for credit reports so I always make sure it is fairly minimal when that time of the month comes around. With no credit history it built my score from the mid-600s to 750 in 18 months or so even with a lot of student loans. The cash back is pretty generous for an entry credit card too, about $225 cash back a year. I think credit cards are pretty useful if you treat them like a debit card and not using it for money you don't actually have.
  22. He will be a first ballot guy. He wasn't an all-time great in his elite years, but he was good enough outside of his longevity. He is so well liked he will get votes.
  23. When I got my first job out of college another girl started at the same time. She decided she was opting out of the retirement plan to save money even though she planned on living at home. So she sacrificed $1,200 in free money due to the match to have like $100 extra a month in her pocket. If historical rates continue she decided $1,200 now is better than $75,000+ for her retirement. Kids need a class that involves investing and loans. They are some of the most important things you deal with in your life.
  24. That was my thought. I'd expect somewhere in the middle to be honest...probably slightly skewed toward the first half if anything. .900ish OPS is what I expect out of him and is what I originally thought was a fair expectation moving to a more hitter friendly environment.
  25. I’d love McDaniels. I don’t see him waiting out to take the team when Brady bails. Seems like a terrible career move. Why not take over a Super Boel contender in the Packers? I don’t think it happens, but not bad.
