  1. Meh the pension is a tad overrated in my opinion. Federal you have to pay in 4.4% of your pay and I am not convinced I am woefully better off with the pension vs. having that in investment accounts. The lack of risk is probably what sets it apart. If you live 20+ years after retirement that pension is likely around a 9% return on your money. Not bad, but you could argue one could do better on their own. The key is living long enough or having a spouse live long enough to draw a lot from it. I think people assume the pension is like it was 40+ years ago, which yes, was absolute insanity. These days it is really nice, but not near what it used to be. All the benefits of public work are nice if you are someone looking forward to your retirement years and take care of yourself to have lots of post retirement years. If not the higher private sector salary would have been way better.
  2. There is no way 2 more losses dooms us. That would make us 9-6-1 or somethings? That could easily make it in this year. We currently hold the #7 seed and we actually still control our own destiny to be technical (though I will pass jumping into those deep numbers). The NFC is pretty darn weak. Panthers are likely a safe bet, but the rest of the NFC fighting for WCs suck. The four teams behind us have sub .500 records right now. I honestly wonder if Rodgers just doesn't believe in this team and is waiting for McCarthy to get canned in the offseason. He is throwing it away at an alarming rate compared to his prior seasons. He probably doesn't feel like it is worth it to run around taking blows on a bad knee when they aren't a Super Bowl contender.
  3. A hotel right next to the stadium would add to the experience for many. I think you are missing the point of it not being a HUGE experience booster. Not to mention said hotel would not be close to Miller Park in all reality. I calculated it out figuring the only logical place is the lot north of the stadium and it would be a 15 minute walk there. The BestWestern is a 23 minute walk. If you are drunk 15 minutes vs. 23 minutes? Is that even a difference at that point? No, not really.
  4. The steps I took to answer your question. 1) Appears he had a breakout year after struggling mightily in 2017. As noted his power surge happened this year, but still only had an OPS of .825. 2) Looks like he was at AAA last year...AKA Colorado. 3) Good idea to probably check out those home/away splits. Annnnnd yup...there is the answer. Home - 1.016 OPS Road - .635 OPS
  5. Look not saying Horni is good by any means, but he isn’t really the problem. His biggest problem is he can’t throw it deep, at all. Sure he makes dumb throws, but that isn’t why the offense is about as sad as it gets. Would be nice if that had a QB with an arm once teams stack the box up. Maybe it is the personnel or maybe it is the plays, but no one is every getting open. Sorry to say, but Wisconsin just isn’t going to get a collegiate QB throwing darts. They have to get guys who will create some kind of space. The only guy who has that ability is their TE. I think the terrible receiving corps is the biggest problem with the offense. Horni isn’t going to make things happen, much like most QBs Wisconsin recruits.
  6. With all the promotions to the rotation it will leave quite a void at AAA as far as depth goes. I am sure someone is brought in as depth, but even then I think it is likely Peralta goes to AAA as rotational depth. I could see them sticking him in the pen, but at least early on he might as well stay stretched out because we will need him many times for injuries.
  7. Exactly. Remember baseball is a business not a fantasy league and you don't deal the guy who'll be in the forefront of the marketing campaign for 2019 and beyond. Why can't you? The players received would be just as marketable. Yelich is really...really....REALLY good. That being said he is nowhere near untouchable. He is not an elite talent, by elite I mean Harper (when on), Trout, Pujols prime, and so on. He is not anywhere near a generational talent.
  8. Davies and Anderson would be good targets for them so they can flip them. Both would likely excel in their park and create decent trade value. The packages you can trade them for is better than the prospect we would likely give them.
  9. There aren't many starters going 7 regularly. Our problem was we had guys we couldn't even trust to go that far when their pitch count was in shape. Now it looks like we do have those kind of guys coming in. Guys where we can trust them to go 6-7 innings with more ease. Too often we were pulling guys after 5 because if they were struggling it wasn't going to fair well after that. We need guys we can trust to pull another inning out of them if they aren't dominating through 5 innings. Was that partially because we had such a strong pen? In some ways yes, but in other ways no.
  10. We pretty much killed any chance of a cool atmosphere around the park when we put it where we did. It’s a weird spot when there isn’t baseball being played. It is dead come the offseason. I wish there were nice bars around it and a hotel etc...but there isn’t and I really doubt there will ever be. What is in it for the Brewers here? They aren’t going to make much money and does it really add anything the the experience? I mean...no, not really. It isn’t a game changer. You know what would be better? Food that doesn’t taste like dog poop. Adding to the tailgate experience would also be way more effective.
  11. Where the pick isn't too important because we aren't trying to get a flashy skill guy nor are we desperate on the OL. Can't get a pass rusher that far back (usually), but certainly can find quality immediate impact guys.
  12. In 85 games for the Orioles last year Schoop hit 244/273/447, good for a 96 OPS+ & 1.3 WAR. Sure, the OBP is ugly but league average 2B in 2018 only hit 254/317/397, so he's trading 44 points in OBP for 50 points in SLG. League average is not terrible. Like I said, ignore his one hot streak: April: .610 May: .648 June: .516 This whole “change of scenery” causing struggle excuse is a complete lack of research and looking at the numbers. He sucked in Baltimore too. That Aug/Sept Schoop showed up almost all year.
  13. Age is fairly meaningless. Schoop is a one year guy regardless and it’s questionable if we even need someone that long. I don’t care how old someone is if they are also a one or even a two year guy. Schoop is young, but he is also gone after the year. I also think it doesn’t help Schoop is a 2B only guy. If he ends up getting bumped for Hiura he likely a crummy expensive bench bat. We don’t need that. Better off just rolling with someone more versatile. He doesn’t make sense. He was absolutely terrible last year minus one week. We hated Villar because he wasn’t versatile and missed a lot...Schoop is basically the same guy with a tad more power. Why focus on when he was trash here? We can just look at how terrible he was for the Orioles last year. He didn’t just get terrible when he got here, he was terrible in Baltimore.
  14. That you don't have to take a shuttle? I don't think they would ever do it but I can see people wanting that experience and being willing to pay for it. Particularly if they sell package deals that include things like swag, stadium tours, seats, etc. So you think people will pay $200 to avoid a shuttle after likely driving hours to get to Milwaukee? Depends on the quality of the hotel, but you are taking at least $100 more than a normal hotel in the area. If you stay by the airport usually $200 more is probably pretty accurate.
  15. The problem is so many hotels offer free shuttles and they aren't hard at all to do. What is the point of a hotel in walking distance? Not sure you guys realize the price of a hotel if they dropped one in the parking lot. Unless you are stupidly rich you would find one out in Brookfield with a shuttle or just call an Uber. Don't get me wrong, it would be cool...but the price would likely make our dreams not so dreamy.
  16. Right, but the concept of it being an investment vehicle isn’t really accurate. It is more like a savings account. Not bad if that is your goal. If you are trying to actually invest and grow your money...not so great.
  17. He is available, not for sale. Which means he will cost a massive premium whether he is expensive or not.
  18. Meh I big market will show him the money. He was just 25 this yea
  19. Jonathan Lucroy should be lucky to get a MLB deal, let alone 3 years or $9m Clancy. He has been absolute garbage for three years. 2017 OPS- .635 with the Rangers and .676 on the road with the Rockies 2018 OPS- .612 with the Oakland A’s Time to start living in the year 2019, not 2014.
  20. I think it was more than money. Not only was Cincy 10x more attractive to him as a person, but I know he didn’t like the way we used pitchers. Chase Anderson summed it up pretty nicely. The pitching coach likes starters lasting and they often stick up for their rotation arms. I’m not saying it was a huge problem and DJ was miserable/angry, but I don’t think he enjoyed how we employed them. No different than any of us don’t you want a job where you enjoy it more and it fits with your beliefs more? It seems like Cincy trumped us on everything in DJs mind and barring way more money he was a goner. Who knows how many years he got too.
  21. It is a one year deal for a major payroll, easy move to make. If this was the Brewers and they didn't have a ton of young rotation pieces they would probably do the exact same and throw $14mil for a one year deal after pitching well for us.
  22. You are going to have a lot of "idiot" fans when watching the Packers is a religion in Wisconsin and they have had stupidly ridiculous success most of people's lives. It creates a crazy bandwagon. You can hate sports and football...but when the Packers are on towns literally die. If you ever want to go grocery shopping in a small community or go pick up some food do it while the Packers are on...the town will be a graveyard. It is pretty amazing.
  23. This is what winning does, people want your coaches, so not shocking to see DJ leave. Our hitting has been pretty suspect for two years now in different forms...not shocked he left. The bullpen coach? Well, not sure there. Maybe they just didn't like him for some reason...it is a darn BP coach for crying out loud. What do they even do?
  24. If they don’t perform to 2018 levels that would be perfectly reasonable to not question a move that likely was less than $1m difference between us and the Reds. Can you think of a compelling reason to let him go? If the difference was less than $1mil the problem wasn’t money, it was that DJ didn’t want to be here. He took the Cubs and helped them to a WS. Comes here and takes a team to the NLCS riding ridiculous pitching performances. Now he darts to the Reds and builds them up. Brilliant plan...why wait for our inevitable decline pitching wise and look bad? Just leave when you can’t look any better. $$$$
  25. Great. I can’t wait till next season. Our pitchers played out of their minds (especially down the stretch). Couple that with some guys moving from the pen to the rotation and they were destined for notable regression as it was. Now...well, it will be “If DJ was still here!!” over and over and over. DJ was not an almighty god and a superb group of guys “way too good” to be in the pen being in the pen allowed the starters to look way better than they were. One could not possibly have more quality pitchers at their disposal. Weird stuff dumping so many coaches after an NLCS appearance. I liked DJ, but losing him is not some crippling move I would hope.
