  1. Surplus value on a guy like Dietrich seems broken. He isn’t very special and honestly his track record is less than stellar. Are you really going to give up Burnes to get a 1.5 WAR player for three years? At what point does control not really add value? If we are dying for offense and think we can sacrifice defense then yah I get this move, but on paper the improvement between Villar to Dietrich seems to be close to zero. I don’t have a problem adding him to be a super utility like Hernan Perez...but to start everyday? No thanks. He won’t cost that much to get, but it won’t be for peanuts either.
  2. If anyone thinks there is even a sliver of possibility they need to start finding the most basic articles about baseball financials and start working their way up. Because sorry, signing Machado is beyond a fantasy land.
  3. It’s not unlikely, it isn’t going to happen period. If you think there is even a sliver of a possibility you need to learn how baseball works and the financial structure of the Milwaukee Brewers specifically. I’m not trying to be condescending...but sometimes an idea is so crazy it’s probably good people shoot it down
  4. Not saying we would have won/loss if it was different, but Counsell’s management of the 7th was complete garbage.. Literally no excuse that after a HR, single, and walk to open the inning Suter should have been allowed to stay in. None...at all.
  5. I agree. Looked like he was even choking up in that last at bat to just make hard contact ... and then stealing second . Shows how singles and speed can be a weapon when you aren’t trying to hit it out every swing Villar consistently has choked up all year and gone for a very heavy contact swing. This isn’t new and he definitely tries to just put it in play with two strikes.
  6. Even if it were to end the way you predicted, it really isn't that terrible for Shaw to get a bit of rest. The argument is better used for Braun because he tends to come off extended layoffs and hit the ground running, but a few extra days to rest and make darn sure that wrist is 100% seems like the wise move. If this was the middle of August and we were chasing the Cubs in the standings...I can understand your argument a bit better. I don't like the idea of adding a risk of an extended absence by not getting Shaw's wrist back to 100%. You’re inferring by waiting you are pressured to rush him back...except that isn’t how it’s works. After 5 days if he isn’t ready you DL him. Simple. Then you bring someone up for five days to ride the pine.
  7. Can’t wait to see what the great options are. Seriously, we have Sogard on the MLB roster...what is so great we can’t wait a few days to see if Shaw will be healthy? I’d rather wait 5 days to see if we can get Travis Shaw back vs. jumping the gun to bring up a trash hitter to get 3 ABs over those five days likely ending in a 66% K rate. Then we find out Travis Shaw is healthy, but now has to fiddle his thumbs for 5 days while some scrub from AAA strikes out a couple more times. Guess we can never have enough trash on the bench.
  8. I was referring to his walk rate...which isn’t very impressive. I was more so assuming with a normal BABIP his OBP skills aren’t that’s great. So when his BABIP takes a tumble his average will follow suit. If he hits .270 his OBP will float around .320...not awful, but certainly not really fixing our offenseive problems. Depending on how bad the defense is right now it might not even really be an improvement. He would probably have to hit near .300 to really be a notable improvement over Villar. Not saying it isn’t possible, but pretty generous to assume that will happen from the get go. Not saying I don’t like Hiura. I think he is the best hitter we have produced in a long time and much deserving of his prospect ranking. However a lot of people think he is going to be a huge savior for the offense and a big improvement over Villar this year. The hype might not match the production. Could you make an argument Hiura’s assumed floor from the get go is about what Villar is right now...therefor little risk? Yah, that’s a legitimate argument.
  9. A .725 OPS is not going to be an upgrade at 2B. First of all Villar has been fine on defense...probably grading out slightly above average. Secondly I am pretty confident Villar can post a .725 or close to it OPS over the course of the season. If not his speed and better defense would close to gap. Unless Hiura comes up and smacks around to a .800+ OPS his impact would be pretty questionable. With Orlando Arcia needing to be replaced I doubt we add such a lackluster fielder in Hiura to the mix. I mean, Miller and Hiura up the middle? Yikes. Hiura gets vastly overhyped in my opinion. His career BABIP is north of .400 and at AA is .432. Put that at a more realistic level and add his unimpressive on base skills you can imagine his numbers would drop like a rock. It’s impossible to know if he would be one of those guys to mash from day 1, but most don’t. That means anyone hoping Hiura is a savior for one offensive hole on our offense is likely sadly mistaken.
  10. If only it was that easy to grade out a player during a slump and call it a day. Why do you get to throw out the hot stretches and call the cold stretch as what is to be expected? Doesn’t really make a ton of sense. No promises he is going to hit like 2015-2016 Machado, but you aren’t going to pay the .741 OPS price he has had the last month. The competition to get him will be pretty high and likely drive up the price. I don’t think he costs any elite prospects, but probably guys you wouldn’t want leaving for a 2 month rental.
  11. One thing I have noticed with Peralta is that he has avoided having poor control when he is behind in the count. Typically when a ball gets away from him (a fastball mostly) it is in a count where it isn’t costly. Usually it is way out of the zone too when he misses. That in my opinion is what has made him so dominant and looking like an ace. He locates when he needs to. Is that just dumb luck over 4 measly starts? Quite possibly...he better keep starting to find out though.
  12. 2 pitches, completely nothing appearance I’d guess. Won’t effect his usage coming up if need be.
  13. Yes Jennings is making it very easy to figure out who goes when Davies and Miley come back Yah seems he hasn’t turned into the long man garbage time pitcher...so he is likely on his way out.
  14. Being a no-name first baseman it is nearly impossible to be a lock. Outside of that Fangraphs has him as the #7 first baseman...in the NL. Right behind him is a well know name Bellinger. I’d have to say he is quite far from a lock...maybe even on the outside looking in. How many 1B even typically make it? Freeman, Votto, and Goldy are all no-brainers over Aguilar. Belt also likely easily over Aguilar.
  15. 12 pages in and there is still talk about Machado, Brewers, and long-term all together. I mean seriously? That takes a special lack of research and realism. You must be trolling to say such things.
  16. Absolutely. When Davies comes back he or Anderson should head for the bullpen as a long reliever. Chase Anderson is not leaving the rotation.
  17. Think I’d have to boycott anything Brewers related if we send Peralta down for Davies. Or anyone in the rotation for that matter.
  18. We acquired Christian Yelich on a pile of prospects selling high on them. I could definitely see that as something we do as an organization. So I would venture to guess Corey Ray being somewhat of a sell high guy and at a position of strength he should be a very likely trade chip. I will say he is basically our golden boy during the Stearns era when it comes to the draft...so maybe we are still very very high on him.
  19. So let’s throw Villar’s BABIP out there inferring it is high, but leave out the fact I’m pretty sure that is in line with his career norms as is the LD%. Love a good argument twisted to favor your narrative. Which is about the only way to convince yourself to start Sogard.
  20. I’d prefer Phillips if we are talking periodic ABs. I think both would suck pretty bad in that kind of role...so Phillips it is. I’d opt for the known in the really good defense. Seems
  21. Baseball commercials aren’t even long. The pitcher isn’t even warmed up half the time it comes back. Pretty sure the broadcast just returns when the game is ready to continue.
  22. I can't decide if I want to be Sogard or Munoz in this comparison. Both options suck. From the thousands of posts, and don't hold me to this... Adam= Sogard Brew= Munoz Adam = Tony LaRussa Brew = Mike Matheny
