  1. I think they want the lefty OF bat. The other option would have been Kyle Wren. Kirk has MLB experience and has had a nice time at Miller Park. I would guess if Phillips is still here come August he gets his job back of going back and forth when needed.
  2. Why not? Doesn't really hurt anything to keep him the remainder of the year.
  3. Not surprised. Exactly what I figured was going on.
  4. You are assuming we could trade Brinson straight up. Not to mention you are associating a pitchers value to his win total, correct? That's wrong on so many levels. Even the teams amount of wins in a pitchers starts is terrible.
  5. Lewis Brinson is not going to be traded for Sonny Gray.
  6. Please realize my comment was if the Brewers added a starter(like Gray etc.) and then once Anderson came back. Because after ditching Guerra that leaves Davies/Suter as the next one out. Of course one could get traded if we were to acquire a starter. It is becoming quite obvious Guerra will be the first starter out...not really a debate.
  7. Yup or someone ridiculous like Bumgarner that I get for two playoff runs. (I realize Bumgarner probably is controllable past next year...just using him as a talent level).
  8. Honestly I think there is a healthy chance the Brewers get Gray. The Brewers won't give up Brinson, but they don't need to. I think they can make a legit offer with Ray or Phillips leading the way. That will be a competitive offer when the other heavily interested teams are also balking at the price. A's seem to really want a CFer and no team really has a major one they are going to spare. In these last few days either someone gives in to the price or the team holding the player drops the price to get a deal done. Seems like the A's need to drop the price or hold onto him and I don't think they want to do the later. Should be interesting to see who gets him, but I think said team gets him at a decent price.
  9. Honestly I don't think any bubble popped. These relievers just aren't as good as ones getting the big returns. He is an OK reliever with one year left of control. Thornburg was lights out and controlled for years...not that amazing of a return all things considered(AT THE TIME). Will Smith was very good and controlled for years yet got one good prospect. I don't think the reliever market was ever that insane like people made it to be. Teams were just going crazy trading off really good and controllable relievers.
  10. He is a good dude. He wouldn't intentionally throw out false rumors. Between this and the Granderson rumor something tells me Brett Phillips is being heavily shopped to other teams. They want a lefty bat, but not the top prospect one they have? Brett Phillips is not in the long or short term plans if you ask me.
  11. We have a solid 5 hours or so to speculate like crazy again just to find out Braun is going on the DL. Haha
  12. Making a move out of the break would have had little effect vs. now. Such a small impact, 3 starts? Brent Suter just outdueled the deadline crown jewel so....
  13. Well they can't promote Phillips so it could just be because of that. Need to replace someone due to injury? Really want that lefty bat? Not sure what to think here. Waaaay too many possibilities. (Keon Broxton also couldn't get called up)
  14. If they went out and got a starter I bet Suter would be demoted(actually maybe go to the bullpen, but might want him stretched out). While he has done well so has Davies and Davies has previous experience. I would personally option Davies and keep Suter. I think Suter will benefit from the league not seeing him before. Unfortunate everyone else in the rotation is also doing really well of late which hurts Suter.
  15. Junior Guerra is definitely get the boot when Anderson returns at this point. It should work out to where they can recall him and save the option which really is total luck for the Brewers.
  16. You'd option a guy who since he arrived is 26-13 in 55 starts with a WHIP of 1.316 and a 4.1 WAR in less than 2 full seasons? Heck I think he's the most reliable starter they have. Note I said reliable, not necessarily the best and maybe not the most talented, but certainly the guy with the most savvy, guts, and makeup between the ears. Since he first arrived and shut out the Cubs in Wrigley late in 2015 for 6 innings, Davies has repeatedly shown that he's cool as a cucumber under pressure and that's a talent in itself. Well if I had to make a decision for the start of next year with two months to go this year(why this thread is pointless to me) yes I would. Of course this all could change in the next two months because Davies has pitched really well lately. If that continues he could seal a starting spot next year. The reason I would opt to option Davies(or it could be Suter instead) is because I value keeping all the starting rotation depth that you can. Because injuries are going to happen and usually you get one right off the bat needing your #6 guy right away. If Matt Garza continues to pitch well I am not trading him and sorry for the other two he can't be optioned. That gives him an upper hand on a rotational spot. Brent Suter is a nice story, but I don't want to depend on him. Could be destined for a Taylor Jungmann type free fall. We haven't traded any starting rotation depth away and had Michael Blazek get a start the other day. Trade one of those guys away and we could be giving even more starts to the Blazek types next year. A lot of people assume Josh Hader will be ready for the rotation next year, but I don't think he will EVER be available to take a rotational spot next year Due to going to the bullpen he will end up with under 100 IP this year. Good luck putting him in the rotation next year he will be done by August. If we actually still think he is a starter long term he will be in the minors all next year till he hits an innings limit. This is all pre mature though as we need to see what our current starters do the next two months to even have an idea. I ball at the idea we have that much depth. Most guys are simply not ready or will hit an innings limit before the end of next year. I don't consider it depth if it is going to get shut down well before the season ends. We could run into big problems late in the season if injuries start to hit and all our depth is maxed out on their innings. Also concerns me our depth is mostly in AA right now so if you need them early in the season they are quite inexperienced.
  17. Irrelevent topic right now because neither is getting traded before this winter. A lot can happen in that amount of time. The other problem is all those guys you listed are not going to be ready the start of next season. Brandon Woodruff and Brent Suter are the only guys who could actually make the opening day roster. Someone can likely take Guerra's spot and if we need a second spot open I would option Davies and keep the depth.
  18. That's absurd. What is this? Is this "National Try and Say Something More Ridiculous than the Previous Person Day"? Why? He is totally right. Very right actually.
  19. Ninth inning comeback falls short in third straight loss to Blue Wahoos Dustin DeMuth smacked a two-run homer in the ninth to pull the Shuckers within a run By Biloxi Shuckers Dustin DeMuth hit his fourth home run of the season on Friday night in Pensacola (Mark P Driscoll) Biloxi Shuckers Box Score Quick Summary: It was a bag of mixed results for Freddy Peralta. While he managed a quality start and struck out six batters he also walked four batters. It was a very quiet day for the offense before the 9th. The Shuckers went into the 9th down 4-1 when Angel Ortega doubled followed by a Dustin DeMuth homerun to make it 4-3. Unfortunatley that is where the rally ended with the Shuckers dropping the game to Pensacola. Pitching Summary: On the mound, Freddy Peralta (6.0 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 4 BB, 6 K) started the game while Quintin Torres-Costa (1.0 IP, 2 K) and Tayler Scott (1.0 IP, 2 H) provided the relief. Hitting Summary: Dustin DeMuth (1-4, R, 2 RBI, HR) Freddu Peralta (1-2, RBI) Angel Ortega (2-4, R, 2B, RBI) Biloxi Shuckers Game Log DeMuth makes noise in the 9th as Shuckers fall to Pensacola 4-3. Biloxi Top of the 9th Pitching Change: Zack Weiss replaces Brennan Bernardino, batting 9th. Angel Ortega doubles (12) on a ground ball to left fielder Josh VanMeter, deflected by pitcher Zack Weiss. Dustin DeMuth homers (7) on a fly ball to left field. Angel Ortega scores. Clint Coulter pops out to first baseman Gavin LaValley in foul territory. Rene Garcia grounds out, third baseman Nick Senzel to first baseman Gavin LaValley. Javier Betancourt grounds out, shortstop Blake Trahan to first baseman Gavin LaValley.
  20. Our pitching prospects can't touch any one of those guys with a 10ft. pole
  21. Personally I would be more inclined to trade Brandon Woodruff. Lower ceiling so I would rather keep the higher ceiling Ortiz. It is a bonus Woodruff probably adds more to a trade hopefully letting us keep an additional player out of the trade. More risk with Ortiz, but I will roll the dice on him.
  22. His velocity is down 1mph...which may equate to 2mph since everyone is calculating it differently. He can take his problems elsewhere though.
  23. The difference doesn't matter. Why is everyone getting so hung up on that? The Brewers were closing in on a deal before the Cubs got seriously involved. The Cubs came in at the end and BLEW everyone away according to Hahn(White Sox GM). At that point the Brewers and Braves(?) balked and let the Cubs have him. The Brewers were putting together a worthy deal until a team came in last minute to overpay(essentially). Corey Ray is nowhere remotely close to Jimenez in the eyes of everyone including the White Sox who basically confirmed it.
  24. Would you trade Lewis Brinson to dump Ryan Braun's contract? Same concept basically. No team is going to do such a trade of that magnitude.
  25. Shuckers can't solve McGuire in second straight loss to Wahoos Blake Allemand smacked his fourth Biloxi home run in the loss By Biloxi Shuckers Blake Allemand hit his fourth home run during the first inning on Thursday night (Hunter Reed) Biloxi Shuckers Box Score Quick Summary: The weather wan't pretty and Corbin Burnes looked much the same. Burnes went two innings while giving up four earned runs. On the opposite side of the field Pensacola starter Deck McGuire had the Shucker's offense lost for seven innings. His only blemish was a Blake Allemand homerun in the first. The Shucker's offense only managed one other hit in the game, a Troy Stoke Jr. single. The Shucker's dropped the game 5-1. Pitching Summary: On the mound, Corbin Burnes (2.0 IP, 5 H, 4 ER, 1 BB, 1 K) started the game while Hiram Burgos (3.2 IP, 3 H, R, 0 ER, BB, 5 K), Travis Hissong (1.1 IP, 3 K) Josh Uhen (1.0, K) provided the relief. Hitting Summary: Troy Stoke Jr. (1-4) Blake Allemand (1-4, R, RBI, HR) Biloxi Shuckers Game Log Blake Allemand hits 4th homer of the year. Biloxi Top of the 1st Johnny Davis grounds out to first baseman Gavin LaValley. Troy Stokes flies out to right fielder Aristides Aquino. Blake Allemand homers (4) on a fly ball to right center field. Jacob Nottingham strikes out swinging.
